Citroën’s popular C1 has a sparkling new look and even greater buyer appeal for 2012. The brand’s entry-level city car has already attracted over 620,000 customers worldwide, with more than 80,000 sold in the UK since its launch in 2005. Now, with new styling, enhanced levels of equipment and a more frugal engine, the New C1 sets an even higher benchmark in the segment.

New features include CO2 emissions from just 99g/km, LED daytime running lights, a CD audio system with Citroën’s integrated Connecting Box (Bluetooth® system with USB socket) and an Electronic Gearbox System with steering-mounted paddles.

Making its world debut at the Brussels Motor Show on 10 January, the New C1 will be available in the UK from April 2012.

A PRACTICAL, USER-FRIENDLY CITY CAR
At just 3.44m long, the New C1 remains the most compactmodel in the Citroën range. Available in both 3-door and 5-door guise from launch, the New C1 appeals as one of the most economical and ecological city cars on the market, but it still has the ability to transport four adults in comfort and boasts a plethora of storage compartments in the dashboard, central console and door panels. Boot volume can also be adjusted thanks to folding rear seats and ranges from 139 litres to over 700 litres. The New C1’s compact dimensions make it the ideal travelling companion, offering an agile and responsive ride, perfectly tailored for urban and city driving. A turning circle of just 9.63 metres makes the New C1 incredibly easy to manoeuvre in city traffic.

UP TO 65.7 MPG & 99 G/KM OF CO2
Agile and frugal, the New Citroën C1 is powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine developing 68hp. Equipped with a manual gearbox, the New Citroën C1 1.0i boasts improved fuel economy of up to 65.7mpg over a combined cycle. Emissions are also improved, to just 99g/km of CO2, making the New C1 congestion charge exempt. As well as being the first Citroën petrol model to emit less than 100g/km of CO2, the New C1 is also available with an Electronic Gearbox System complete with steering-mounted paddle controls for enhanced handling and driving pleasure. This EGS version delivers an impressive 62.8 mpg (combined) and emits only 104g/km of CO2.

EVEN MORE CHARACTER ON THE OUTSIDE
The New Citroën C1 gains even more appeal and personality through its new front end and shorter bonnet.

The headlights keep their rounded shape, while the front bumper has been entirely redesigned to house fog lights and LED daytime running lights, which are still a rarity in the segment. The vertical design LED light signature – which is specific toCitroën and can also be seen on DS3 and C4 AIRCROSS – strengthens the character of the new model. At the rear, New C1 retains its innovative glass tailgate and features the brand’s new chevrons and badging.

New C1 also gains new ‘Notus’ design 14” wheels and is available with ‘Rift’ 14” alloy wheels, as standard, on top of the range models.

ATTRACTIVE COLOURS & MATERIALS
The playful New Citroën C1 comes in a special launch colour that already adorns the C3 and DS3: Botticelli blue, a fresh-looking body colour included in the 2012 catalogue. The range of body colours also includes Scarlet red, Electra blue, Lipizzan white, Caldera black and two grey tones – one light, Gallium grey, and one dark, Carlinite grey.Citroën has also finished the grille with a chrome strip available from the mid-range trim level. The New Citroën C1 is as attractive inside as it is from the exterior. The leather steering wheel for EGS models has been redesigned, while manual gearbox versions get a new-look gearstick. Most models are available with stylish new ‘Orsai’ upholstery and entry-level models come with Mistral ‘Nokimat’ cloth. A Leather/Alcantara® option is now available, adding a high-end touch to the New C1 interior.

NEW ‘CRÉATIVE TECHNOLOGIE’ EQUIPMENT
The New Citroën C1 comes with a range of ‘Créative Technologie’ features. Technological treats, just for the driver, include steering-mounted paddle controls for the Electronic Gearbox System – a first for the C1. For even greater travelling comfort, the radio offering has been enhanced by a new facia matching the styling of the dashboard. Featuring a time display, the all-new CD audio system comes with a Connecting Box (optional from the second trim level and standard on top of the range models), which is able to read all MP3 formats and is equipped with a Bluetooth® function. It is accompanied by USB and jack hook-ups at the base of the central console.

ENHANCED WELL-BEING & SAFETY
The New C1 is a versatile performer. Complementing its existing on-road abilities, the model features new power steering settings and shock absorbers for more agility and ride comfort at low speeds. The new model will be available with a range of technologies for safer urban driving, including ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Isofix anchorage points and ESP.

WORLD DEBUT IN BRUSSELS
The New Citroën C1 will make its official debut at the Brussels Motor Show on Tuesday 10 January (Press Day). The general public will be able to view the new model from 12 – 22 January on Citroën’s stand in Hall 6.

Final UK specifications and pricing details are still to be confirmed.

Citroën has announced the introduction of its most CO2 efficient conventionally powered model to date – the new C3 e-HDi 70 Airdream EGS VTR+. With emissions of just 87g/km and combined cycle economy of 83.1mpg, this new version of the C3 supermini is now Citroën’s most fuel and CO2 efficient diesel powered car, ranking it amongst the very best in its class.

First displayed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the highly specified e-HDi 70 Airdream EGS VTR+ is available to order from this month with an OTR MRRP of £15,290, complete with the C3’s renowned panoramic Zenith windscreen.

The new model uses Citroën’s innovative e-HDi micro-hybrid Stop & Start technology, combined with a refined and efficient 68hp HDi diesel engine, to deliver fuel economy of up to 88.3mpg in extra urban driving.

Jules Tilstone, Citroën UK’s Marketing Director, commented: “Citroën is committed to driving down the cost of motoring and this new model is a perfect example of that. With impressive fuel economy, low CO2 emissions, a BIK rate at just 13%, free VED and the benefit of no London Congestion Charge, this stylish model is a financially and environmentally attractive addition to the Citroën range.”

Jules continued: “Underlining the brand’s firm environmental commitment, a full 50% of Citroën cars sold this year emit under 130g/km of CO2 and there has been a five-gram decrease in average CO2 emissions for the European range as a whole.”

Citroën is extending its successful C4 range with the introduction of the New Citroën C4 AIRCROSS.

The New Citroën C4 AIRCROSS redefines the codes of compact SUV design, bringing together contemporary styling and technological innovation. Ideally suited to modern lifestyles, C4 AIRCROSS introduces a sense of escape into everyday driving. This new Citroën body style draws upon the brand’s technological excellence, combining the grip of an off-roader with the ride and driveability of a saloon. Ecologically considerate, the model also boasts some of the lowest CO2emissions in its segment.

Available with two and four-wheel drive versions in some markets, the New Citroën C4 AIRCROSS will be launched in Europe at the end of the first half of 2012. The car will go on sale in the UK during the second half of 2012.

The styling of the C4 AIRCROSS draws upon the brand’s DNA, combining the vitality of other Citroën models in the range with the strong presence of an off-roader. The sculpted horizontal lines and aerodynamic vents of the front end accentuate the model’s compact appearance. The contours of the bonnet – visible from the driver’s seat – the wide wheel arches and the reduced front and rear overhangs all combine to enhance the overall impression of robustness.

The distinctive light signature at the front – illuminated both day and night – is created by LEDs integrated into the vertical vents. The shape of the large 18-inch wheels and the rear lights are directly inspired by the Hypnos concept car, reworked for optimal air flow and reduced CO2emissions. Seen from the side, the inverted shark fin at the rear also hints at the design of the Hypnos concept. The fin is decorated at the tip with a chrome compass motif to denote the model’s inclusion in Citroën’s SUV family. The sophisticated design includes indicator repeaters in the door mirrors, light guides in the rear light clusters and a reversing camera built into the chrome trim on the tailgate.

The New Citroën C4 AIRCROSS is fitted with a latest generationfour-wheel transmission system, providing optimal handling in all conditions. This technology allows the car to be driven permanently in four-wheel drive mode, with the torque optimally distributed between the front and rear wheels.

Using the single control positioned behind the gear lever, the driver can manually select one of the three transmission modes:

2WD, for optimal fuel consumption

4WD, which automatically distributes the torque between the front and rear axles

‘Lock’,which provides maximum traction in severe conditions.

The C4 AIRCROSS fulfils Citroën’s ecological commitments with its HDi 110 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This model is one of the front-runners in its segment for low CO2emissions. In some markets this efficient Euro 5 engine will be available with four as well as two-wheel drive.

The model’s compact dimensions – 4.34m long, 1.80m wide, 1.63m high – and 10.6m turning circle ensure outstanding manoeuvrability in the urban environment. The comfort of this 5-seater is worthy of the saloon segment above, while the 442-litre boot comfortably meets the demands of modern life.

Serenely confident on the road, drivers enjoy a clear view from the raised driving position with the specially developed chassis and suspension delivering the optimum balance between comfort and road holding. All occupants can enjoy a true sense of well-being thanks to the large panoramic glass sunroof, which fills the cabin with light during the day and is illuminated by integrated LEDs at night.

The New Citroën C4 AIRCROSS’ design is also focused on ease of use in everyday driving. A high level of specification includes GPS navigation with touch-screen, a reversing camera and USB/Bluetooth® connectivity for portable audio players.

Citroën will present a brand new, highly innovative concept vehicle at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Called Tubik, this eye-catching model is a high-tech executive shuttle based on one key idea – travel should be fun.

Building on Citroën’s Multicity project – an online portal and route finder, currently live in France, which covers all available means of transport (car, train, plane, etc.) – Tubik takes mobility solutions to the next level. Featuring the very best of Citroën’s ‘Créative Technologie’, Tubik is specifically designed to make travel meaningful and enjoyable.

Inspired by Citroën’s renowned Type H or ‘TUB’ van, but with all the prestigious styling and characteristics of modern Citroën design, Tubik is a 9-seater packed with entertaining technology. Exceptionally striking both inside and out, Tubik boasts offbeat, distinctive styling with colours and materials designed to meet the highest standards of sophistication and comfort.

As part of its design philosophy, Tubik responds to a changing society where extended families and groups of friends travel together, often in numbers exceeding four or five, with plenty of room for luggage.

To make travel enjoyable for its passengers, Tubik incorporates a lounge-style cocoon dedicated to comfort and relaxation. The modular seats are designed to be arranged in many different ways (semi-reclined, face-to-face, etc.), and the onboard technology – which includes a giant semi-circular screen and high-definition surround sound – turns the cabin into an area that is perfect for sharing over long distances. With the Citroën Tubik concept, the journey becomes as important as the destination.

Offering generous space whilst minimising fuel consumption, Tubik is powered by Citroën’s innovative Hybrid4 technology. With this full-hybrid diesel drivetrain and optimised aerodynamics, Tubik maintains CO2emissions at a level comparable to a conventional saloon.

The design lines of Tubik are a nod to the Citroën ‘TUB’ (from the French acronym for low front-wheel drive commercial vehicle) and its ingenious upgrade, the Type H, whose versatility and styling made it a best seller with half a million units produced over 34 years.

At 4.80m long, 2.08m wide and 2.05m tall, Tubik is big enough to carry up to nine passengers. The front end, which stands apart from the main body, brings to mind the corrugated metal of the Type H van with its distinctive ribbing, while the windscreen pillars are reminiscent of the Type H’s two characteristic ridges. Making Tubik look even more protective, Citroën’s designers have combined two contrasting colours – the metallic grey of the body shell enveloping the pearlescent white at either end – which also mark the position of the diesel engine (at the front) and electric motor (at the rear) used by the full-hybrid diesel drivetrain.

The simple, yet attractive exterior subtly incorporates two large doors with access to the driving position and the ‘living area’, which are barely visible when closed. The huge cabin door opens upwards and incorporates the entire side of the vehicle. As journeys with larger groups of people generally involve luggage, the rear end conceals a cleverly designed hold.

Citroën Tubik creates a high-tech world designed around the driving position, an area dominated by what the designers call the ‘cyclotron’ – a module that groups the seat, pedal assembly, steering wheel and curved head-up display in one circular form. The aluminium grey of the bodywork is also present in the cyclotron to accentuate its robust, protective appearance.

Sitting in the black full-grain leather seat, the driver is identified by a fingerprint recognition system. The head-up display screen, mounted immediately in front of the steering wheel, provides all the information required for navigation. For all-round visibility, Tubik also features reversing and rear-view cameras.

Tubik’s ‘living area’ is a lounge-style cocoon with materials borrowed from the worlds of architecture and interior design – including felt seats, silken backrests and door panels, and a leather floor. The ambient lighting in the cabin highlights the colours and materials. To create an atmosphere of privacy, the moucharaby and large panoramic window are an original way for passengers to see out easily, without others looking in.

Passengers can arrange the three rows of seats as they wish. Each seat is independent for maximum comfort.

The first row of seats lets two people sit facing the road or facing the other passengers. The middle row can seat up to three people or, alternatively, can be converted into a small table, be folded onto the last row to free up an area of almost 2m², or be folded out completely to create a meridienne-style seat – a configuration ideal for relaxation. Passengers then become spectators, taking advantage of the large multimedia screen in a semi-reclined position.

Tubik is both exceptionally spacious and environmentally conscious. With its Hybrid4 technology, CO2 emissions are close to those of a conventional saloon. The full-hybrid diesel drivetrain also offers more range than a stand-alone internal combustion engine and maximises traction in four wheel drive mode – the front wheels being driven by the diesel engine and the rear wheels by the electric motor. The 22” wheels feature deep, narrow, very low rolling resistance tyres to further help optimise fuel consumption.

For the best combination of comfort and road-holding, Tubik features Citroën’s exclusive Hydractive suspension technology, which keeps the vehicle level regardless of load. At high speeds, Tubik is automatically lowered to promote aerodynamic performance, further reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Citroën’s acclaimed DS line breaks new ground with the arrival of the dynamic new DS4 – which redefines expectations of a mid-size coupé with its unique blend of bold design, elegance and versatility.

DS4 combines head-turning good looks with an unrivalled driving experience – both fundamental to the DNA of the DS line. By abandoning the norms of conventional design, Citroën have created a pioneering and singularly desirable addition to the DS range. Designed first and foremost as a sleek coupé, but with 5-door flexibility and a commanding, raised stance, DS4 takes ‘Créative Technologie’ to a whole new level. DS4 is dominant, confident and powerful – a perfect sequel to the multi-award winning DS3.

DS4’s striking profile immediately portrays presence and prestige. Its eye-catching lines are enhanced by a chrome-finished waistline and dark tinted windows. Sculpted wheel arches emphasise the stylish alloys (up to 19”). The taut roofline and rear spoiler add extra prowess. Striking ‘always on’ light signatures at the rear and around the front fog lights ensure that DS4 stands out from the crowd.

DS4’s defined coupé physique belies its versatile 5-door layout. Three full-size rear seats are accessed via seamlessly integrated rear doors with handles encased in the car’s extended window frames. When open, these rear doors reveal their angular shape as a uniquely elegant design touch.

A sophisticated and beautifully appointed cabin offers exquisite comfort in a premium environment. The interior exudes a sense of status, innovation and finesse through meticulous attention to detail. From the carefully tailored acoustics to the premium cabin materials, DS4 projects an air of confidence and sophistication. The drilled aluminium pedals, embossed door handles and a choice of five leather combinations completes the opulent atmosphere.

A large panoramic windscreen offers enhanced occupant visibility and illuminates the driver-focused cockpit, creating a bright and welcoming environment.

Keeping form and function in perfect harmony, DS4 boasts compact exterior dimensions – 4.27m (l), 1.81m (w) & 1.53m (h) – for exceptional versatility and day-to-day functionality.

There is room to seat five adults in comfort with generous head, leg and shoulder room throughout. A large 359 litre boot increases to 385 litres (VDA), using the under floor storage – bigger than many conventional hatchbacks.

In keeping with Citroën’s focus on ‘Créative Technologie’, the interior is home to a range of clever storage solutions for maximum convenience. The intelligent cabin design includes a raised centre console (available on models fitted with EGS) with a cooled, illuminated and protected compartment that holds up to four 50-cl bottles and houses a connectivity area with a USB port and a 12-volt socket.

The serene onboard atmosphere is created by DS4’s meticulous soundproofing, which is comparable to models in the segment above. DS4 offers the opportunity to personalise the onboard ambience with a range of polyphonic sound themes. The colour of the dials and the instrument cluster can also be changed to further refine the driving experience.

DS4’s cabin boasts intelligent innovation for ultimate user confidence and first-class travelling comfort. Additional premium touches such as massaging front seats with electric lumbar adjustment, an advanced DENON® audio system and Citroën’s integrated eMyWay navigation, entertainment and communication system are available to further personalise the cabin.

With its raised, taut and agile stance, DS4 is tuned for dynamic performance that will set the heart racing. The suspension and steering are engineered to be highly responsive and smooth, with exemplary control.

Citroën’s new DS4 is powered by a range of five Euro 5 compliant engines, delivering refined performance with optimised fuel and CO2 efficiency. There are two diesels – HDi 110 and HDi 160 -and three petrol units that were co-developed with BMW – VTi 120, THP 155 and a new THP 200.

The spirited THP 200 dispenses thrilling power and performance with a top speed of 146mph and 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds. Extremely efficient, this engine returns an impressive 44.1mpg over a combined cycle with low CO2 emissions of just 149g/km.

The HDi 110 is also available as an e-HDi version. Citroën’s innovative micro-hybrid technology, with second generation Stop & Start, boosts fuel economy by up to 15% in city driving conditions and lowers the model’s official CO2 emissions to just 114g/km.

One of the safest vehicles in its class, DS4 has been awarded a maximum 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating with a 97% score in the ‘Safety Assist’ category. An extensive range of safety features are available as standard, including ESP with Intelligent Traction Control, ABS with EBD and EBA, six airbags and two Isofix mountings on the rear seats.

DS4 has also received the Euro NCAP Advanced award for its innovative eTouch Emergency & Assistance system. Other safety enhancing technology includes programmable cruise control with speed limiter and Citroën’s new blind-spot monitoring system.

DS4 officially goes on sale in the UK on 4 July 2011 and will carry one of three signatures – DSign, DStyle and DSport. Ownership starts at just £18,150 for the VTi 120 DSign, rising to just under £24,000 for the range-topping THP 200 and HDi 160 DSport versions.

Rally Argentina was marked by several twists but finally Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena came out on top for the sixth time on the bounce.

The seven-time world champions took the lead on the last stage, after having made up the one-minute penalty they received on the first day. Despite a roll in the longest stage of the event, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia finished on the third step of the podium. Citroën continued its series of wins in South America, which began in 2004.

The last day of Rally Argentina was an atypical one, with a stage of over 48 kilometres to be tackled as the sun rose. The crews had been up since 5am and they had a quick stop in the Villa Carlos Paz service park before battle began. They then set off for Ascochinga for the longest stage since the start of the season!

Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia, first out on the road, made a cautious start to nurse their 43.7s lead. In the final kilometre of the stage, their Citroën DS3 WRC rolled onto its roof. “A stupid mistake,” admitted Ogier at the finish. “All we had to do was to drive on to victory. I had noted an apex to be taken in a corner, and it ended in a roll. We were able to restart, but the car was damaged. In addition to the superficial damage, we no longer had power steering. The windscreen was broken and we lost our rear wing.”

Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, in third place, quickly realised that the nature of the terrain wouldn’t allow them to get the better of Mikko Hirvonen: “There was fog and it was very damp. In these conditions there’s no sweeping. Our first split times weren’t great. We had to go ‘pedal-to-the-metal to overtake.” The winner of the last five Rally Argentinas managed to snatch second place in the overall classification at the very end of the timed sector.

In the last three stages – some 10 kilometres – Ogier tried to defend his position. Before the start of the Power Stage, he was only 3.3s in front of Loeb and 5.7s in front of Hirvonen: “It was really tough. In the last stage, I felt that I wouldn’t be able to hold the wheel. Without power steering, the car became incredibly heavy. We were totally unable to fight our corner,” summed up Sébastien.

While Loeb and Hirvonen took advantage of Ogier’s problems to overtake the Frenchman, he took the points for third place. Ogier said: “It’s a lesser evil for the team. We haven’t lost too many points in the manufacturers’ classification. On the other hand, it’s not a great result for the drivers’ title chase. I’m really very disappointed.”

Loeb was in attack mode right till the very end and took the lead from his team-mate. At the flag, he was 2.4s in front of Hirvonen: “After Friday’s penalty, I wasn’t counting on this victory. We pushed really hard to get back in contact with the frontrunners and to beat Hirvonen. Once again, the outcome was decided by a hair’s breadth. It seems that Rally Argentina is my happy hunting ground!”

Loeb congratulated his team-mate and insisted: “I understand what he must be feeling. I’ve had similar misadventures. It’s frustrating and disappointing, but these mistakes can happen. Still he managed to bring the car home to the finish, and that’s very important for the team.”

Citroën has revealed the eagerly anticipated third model in its innovative and distinctive DS line: DS5. Designed to express the full extent of Citroën’s ‘Créative Technologie’, DS5 combines ground-breaking style, rewarding driving dynamics and exceptional refinement with innovative engineering solutions.

DS5 is the first Citroën model to feature HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology, providing enhanced performance and class leading environmental credentials. The advanced HYbrid4 system delivers 200bhp; four-wheel drive capability; emission-free electric power for the city; and an acceleration boost function for the open road – with total CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

The DS line has already redefined expectations in the supermini segment with DS3, and combines the style of a coupé and the flexibility of a five-door hatchback with DS4. Progressing to the executive segment, DS5 targets customers looking for a truly bold and assertive car with a resolutely modern approach to vehicle design.

Based on the futuristic and magical C-SportLounge concept, DS5 bringstrue technological innovation to its class.

The dynamic exterior reflects a modern expression of status and promises enhanced driving pleasure. Flowing lines, a sleek profile and muscular wheel arches – which wrap themselves around the large (16” to 19”) alloy wheels – give DS5 an undoubted air of refined confidence.

The assertive front end instantly identifies DS5 as a member of the DS family. There is an oversized air intake, a large chrome-finished grille housing the chevrons and a new LED light signature. A distinguishing feature, DS5 boasts chrome-finished ‘sabre’ inserts stretching from the top of each headlamp to the windscreen.

The rear design takes DS5’s on-road presence to yet another level. The car stands firmly on wide tracks, emphasised by two tail pipes built into the rear bumper and highlighted by a rear signature featuring six light guides.

Citroën DS5 is equally charismatic inside, with a remarkable cabin fully consistent with the exterior styling. The driver-focused cockpit features a coupé-like driving position with a near-vertical steering wheel and a wide central console. DS5 instantly fires the imagination. An array of buttons, switches, scroll wheels and toggles are grouped on two central consoles, one low down and one above the driver’s head, ‘pilot-style’. A simple push on the START button brings the interior to life. The colour Head-Up Display projects essential information into the driver’s line of sight and the ambient lighting bathes the cockpit in a heady mix of red and white.

Most importantly, DS5 benefits from Citroën’s expertise in quality and refinement. Each detail has been carefully considered, with premium materials such as fine-grain Club leather and exclusive designs like the ‘watchstrap’ seat upholstery – a signature touch of the DS line that is unique to the market.

Reconciling fun at the wheel with comfort and practicality, DS5 opens up new horizons with pioneering architecture, including:

A sleek, compact body (4.52m long, 1.85m wide) and a driving position worthy of a Gran Turismo coupé.

A roomy boot (up to 465 litres VDA) reminiscent of a Sportwagon.

Five real seats, four doors and all the access and modularity of a hatchback.

For its motor show debut in Shanghai, DS5 appears in a one-off livery as the Citroën DS5 White Pearl. The cabin features ebony-coloured full-grain leather, contrasting subtly with silver-flecked overstitching. Interior detailing includes decorative inserts in Markassa ebony and a highly reflective fascia, created by applying several layers of lacquer. DS5 White Pearl also sports specially designed 20-inch alloy wheels.

Citroën’s multi-talented DS4, the second model in the distinctively-styled DS line, has been voted “Most Beautiful Car of the Year” by more than 60,000 web users in 62 countries. The award was presented to Frédéric Banzet, Managing Director of Citroën, at the official ceremony of the 26th International Automobile Festival on 27th January.

Alongside this recognition from the general public, a jury of personalities from the worlds of design, sport, culture and the media, specially constituted for the Festival, awarded DS4 the “Most Beautiful Interior” prize, distinguishing the quality and refinement of the Citroën DS4, and the DS line as a whole.

DS4, revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October 2010, is yet further proof of the brand’s “Créative Technologie”. It fully honours the philosophy of the DS line, with its bold stance on styling, driving sensations, architecture and sophistication.

The Citroën DS4 communicates its exclusive nature from the very first glance through the position of the chevrons on the grille and its distinctive LED lights, which are illuminated both day and night. The sophisticated profile features chrome detailing around dark-tinted windows, muscular wheel arches that emphasise the large wheels – up to 19 inches – and a tautly-drawn roofline culminating in a rear spoiler for an extra dose of vitality. It is, no doubt, this coherent whole and status that appealed to web voters.

Like the exterior styling, the interior of DS4 exudes power, dynamism and refinement. The body-hugging front seats in “Bracelet” upholstery and finest quality leather, the sculpted dashboard with superior tactile quality and the panoramic windscreen extending backwards into a dark roof lining, all express the DS4’s strong personality and were applauded by the jury at the International Automobile Festival.

Delivering on the driving sensations implied by its styling, the raised, four-door coupé promises a unique road feel that makes travelling and movement irresistible.

DS4 will go ‘on sale’ in the UK during the second half of 2011.

The latest honour for DS3 comes just days after the stand-out model was presented with the same title in TopGear magazine’s 2010 awards, together with the overall ‘Car of the Year’ trophy.

DS3 has been impressing the Fifth Gear team since its launch at the beginning of the year. Fifth Gear said: “The Citroën DS3 is a brilliant little package. It’s sharp looking on the outside, beautifully styled on the inside and comes with a great range of fast, but frugal engines. What surprised us the most is just how good it is to drive. On the road the DS3 feels great, and on the track Tiff [Needell] twice drove it to victory against more expensive and more powerful competition. It simply doesn’t put a foot wrong.”

Marc Raven, Citroën UK’s Communications Director, added: “DS3 has had an outstanding year, and the recent flurry of honoursare proving it. DS3 introduces a fresh and distinctive style to the class with its attention-grabbing personality. Embodying the best of Citroën’s ‘Créative Technologie’ with sophistication and comfort, it’s redefining the supermini market.”

Not a model to rest on its multiple laurels, the versatile DS3 is stepping out with some exciting new versions in the New Year. DS3 Racing, a 207hp special edition created by six-time WRC winning team, Citroën Racing, is already one of the most anticipated models of 2011.

Next year will also see DS3 proving its sporting credentials with the introduction of DS3 WRC, Citroën’s all-new challenger for the World Rally Championship. Powered by a 300hp 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, DS3 WRC will get its first taste of competitive action at Rally Sweden in February.

With attractive, sculpted lines; impressive build quality; and an array of original upmarket features and functions, the new Citroën C4 is a perfect balance of confidence-inspiring styling and useful, convenient technologies.

Specifically designed to meet the needs of mid-size 5-door hatchback retail customers and business users, new C4 is robust and versatile; driver-focused, yet impressively comfortable; and is charged with a real ‘Positive Power’ – thanks to efficient Citroën engineering and an environmentally considerate range of powertrains.

Like the new Citroën C5 in 2008, and the new Citroën C3 in 2009, new C4 is further evidence of Citroën’s know-how and creativity in designing efficient, stylish, innovative and safe vehicles with ‘real world’ practicality.

New C4’s distinctive profile and balanced proportions give a clear impression of strength and stability. Defined and flowing surfaces, such as the purposeful front end and rear spoiler, hint at the model’s optimised aerodynamics. Chrome detailing combines with dynamic headlight styling and sculpted alloy wheels for a sophisticated and impressive road presence.

Fractionally larger than its forerunner, new C4’s compact external dimensions – 4.33m (l), 1.79m (w), 1.49m (h) – conceal generous internal volumes with spacious accommodation for all occupants; built-in versatility and practicality; and a class-leading boot volume of up to 408-litres VDA.

The high quality of new C4’s interior finish is immediately apparent from the tactile soft-touch material on the top of the one-piece dashboard and the generous amounts of chrome around the dials and vents. This is a car created to deliver a supremely satisfying on-board experience as well as long-term durability.

Promising precise control and an accomplished drive, new C4’s driver-focused cockpit immediately delivers a feeling of on-road comfort and confidence. Personal comfort can be tailored to individual requirements, with users able to adjust the colour of the instrument display, select their own ‘polyphonic’ sound alerts and even set the intensity of the automatic air conditioning to one of three different settings. For optimum levels of comfort, new C4 can be specified with massaging front seats – the first time this has been offered in this sector of the market.

New C4 is intelligently designed with a range of new convenient technologies, a number of which are unique to the segment. There is a new blind-spot monitoring system, a cornering light function, cruise control and speed-limiter with favourite speed settings and Citroën’s innovative eTouch Emergency & Assistance System.

Selected models feature a new raised centre console – another first for the class – which houses a cooled and illuminated storage area that can take four 0.5-litre bottles. Other available equipment includes a Connecting Box that provides Bluetooth® and a USB socket; front and rear parking sensors; parking space ‘gap’ measurement; Xenon dual-function directional headlamps and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Impressive acoustic comfort and the levels of soundproofing in the car – filtering out external road noise and vibrations – have been benchmarked to the segment above.

Users can even immerse themselves in a rich, authentic audio experience with the standard specification Surround Sound audio system. Alternatively, there is the option of a premium Denon HiFi, which is new to the Citroën range.

An environmentally respectful car, the new C4 uses the latest Citroën technology to reduce its ecological impact. With CO2 emissions from just 109g/km, the new C4 is one of the most ecologically-conscious models in the segment and all diesel models qualify for free VED in the first year.

A Gear Efficiency Indicator – standard specification on all manual models – signals the optimum moment to change gear and encourages economical driving. A focus on controlling new C4’s overall weight and the use of 15% ‘green’ materials add to the new C4’s environmental credentials.

New C4 is powered by an extensive range of refined and efficient powerplants – three BMW co-developed petrol engines and four efficient HDi diesel units. Power output ranges from a refined 90hp to a punchy 155hp. Automatic, 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed EGS transmissions are all available.

Citroën’s innovative micro-hybrid e-HDi drivetrain is available with the HDi 110 engine and EGS transmission, which delivers CO2 emissions as low as 109g/km – reducing to 99g/km on future models. A combination of several environmentally considerate technologies – including a second generation Stop & Start system with regenerative braking – e-HDi helps to improve fuel efficiency by up to 15% in city driving conditions, with CO2 emissions reduced by around 5g/km.

One of the safest vehicles in its class, new C4 has been awarded the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP rating, including a 97% score in the ‘Safety Assist’ category – the highest score for any vehicle of its type.

Arriving in the UK in January 2011, the new Citroën C4 will be offered in three well-specified trims – VTR, VTR+ and Exclusive – and is attractively priced, starting at £15,595, rising to £21,495 for the range-topping 2.0HDi 150hp Exclusive. Prices are inclusive of VAT at 20%.

The Citroën C3 Picasso range now benefits from a full Euro 5 compliant engine line-up and all HDi models qualify for free VED in the first year. The petrol 1.4 VTi 95hp VT and the 1.6HDi 90hp VT have been re-homologated and now offer improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. Combined cycle fuel economy increases from 42.8mpg to 44.1mpg and 60.1mpg to 61.4mpg respectively. CO2 emissions are down 4g/km on both models, resulting in reduced BIK tax rates (down 2 bands). The VED also reduces for both models, from band G to F and band D to C respectively.

Helping to reduce fuel consumption and maintain low CO2 emissions, all C3 Picasso models are now fitted withMichelin Energy™ Saver tyres. These efficient tyres mean specifying larger 17” optional alloy wheels on Exclusive models will no longer have an impact on CO2 output.

Keeping occupants connected and entertained, Citroën’s Connecting Box will be fitted as standard from the VTR+ trim level. The smart system offers a USB socket for connecting MP3 players to the audio system and a Bluetooth® connection for hands-free calls and allowing users to stream music wirelessly from Bluetooth® enabled devices.

UKAVAILABILITY & PRICING*

Citroën’s elegant C5 range is to be updated and refreshed with smart styling and technology upgrades including a distinctive new LED light signature, darker tinted rear light clusters, re-homologated engines and the introduction of the Company’s innovative new eTouch Emergency & Assistance System.

The model upgrades apply to both Saloon and Tourer versions and are available from November 2010.

Already widely recognised as one of the most stylish and well-equipped models its segment, the visual changes to the C5 range are subtle yet assured, whilst the efficiency and equipment upgrades further strengthen the model’s technologically advanced credentials.

STYLING UPGRADES

Standard specification across both the C5 Saloon and Tourer ranges, specially designed LEDs have been neatly integrated into the headlights to give the model a distinctive new visual signature. The rear light clusters also benefit from a new ‘Dark Crystal’ treatment with clear glass in the central section. The headlamps retain all their existing functionality and the models safety-enhancing cornering lights remain standard specification across the range.

MORE EFFICIENT POWER

The Citroën C5 range now benefits from a full Euro 5 compliant engine line-up with the introduction of the 1.6HDi 110hp Euro 5 to replace the Euro 4 version. The 1.6i THP 155hp petrol engine – available in Saloon form with VTR+ NAV trim – and the 3.0HDi V6 240hp Auto Exclusive (Saloon and Tourer) have been re-homologated and now offer improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. Combined cycle fuel economy increases from 39.8mpg to 42.2mpg and 38.2mpg to 39.2mpg respectively. CO2 emissions are also down 14g/km and 6g/km respectively, resulting in reduced BIK tax rates for both models (down 3 bands for the THP 155 and down 2 bands for the HDi V6). The first year VED for the THP 155 model changes from band H to band G.

CITROËN’S NEW eTOUCH EMERGENCY & ASSISTANCE SYSTEM

Standard specification on all C5 Exclusive models, customers now benefit from the introduction of Citroën’s new eTouch Emergency & Assistance System. This innovative service automatically or manually makesemergency calls and allows manual assistance calls – using a built-in SIM card – for a rapid response in the event of an accident or if the car is immobilised. Citroën’s eTouch system also allows drivers to consult information online at their ‘MyCITROËN’ personal space, which allows them to monitor their vehicle’s maintenance requirements and to receive advice on improving fuel economy. These services are free and available 24-7.

Citroën is unleashing an all-new contender for the 2011 World Rally Championship – the Citroën DS3 WRC. The hotly anticipated replacement for the multi-championship winning C4 WRC will make its global public debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Aggressive, dynamic and packed with ‘Créative Technologie’, the DS3 WRC represents the efforts of Citroën Racing to push performance to the limit during its development, whilst complying with the new FIA regulations. After five WRC manufacturer’s and six consecutive driver’s titles for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, Citroën is out to extend its run of success with the DS3 WRC.

More compact than its predecessor, the Citroën DS3 WRC boasts the same powerful lines as the production DS3, although they are emphasised by the cooling vents and aerodynamic parts designed to improve road holding at high speeds. Under the bonnet, the 300hp 1.6-litre direct-injection turbocharged engine was conceived from start to finish by Citroën Racing. The four-wheel-drive transmission incorporates a six-gear sequential gearbox and front and rear mechanical differentials.

DS3 WRC is designed to limit the budgets required to compete in the WRC. The new FIA rules ban costly materials such as titanium and carbon-fibre, and standardise certain parts like the turbocharger and limit the changes that can be made to the vehicle during its lifetime. Rally nevertheless remains a great testing ground for driving new advances in vehicle technology.

The icy stages of Rally Sweden in February 2011 are expected to give the model its first taste of competitive action. Two teams – Sébastien Loeb / Daniel Elena and Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia – have already been confirmed for the 2011 World Rally Championship.

To be unveiled at the forthcoming Paris Motor Show, this new model is an emblem for a state-of-mind and a lifestyle. Clearly alluding to leisure and pleasure, it takes a simplified, no-nonsense approach to motoring – without forgetting refinement – and transports passengers to a lighter, fresher world.

This new concept car is both resolutely Citroen and typically Lacoste. Positioned at the crossroads of the automotive world, where fashion and sport meet, it makes a number of references to all three sectors. The technology on board also strikes a playful note, underlining the apparent paradox between design expertise and lightness of tone.

With its strong presence and joie de vivre, the high-tech and innovative Citroen Lacoste makes car travel an all-new experience and an incomparable adventure for the senses.

Pure, simple and laid-back, while remaining sophisticated, the Citroen Lacoste takes another step forward towards the car of the future – a vehicle aimed at putting an end to the “always more” mantra that often reigns in the automotive industry. The new model also fuels Citroen’s thinking of focusing on the essentials to create original cars that are affordable and economical, while losing none of their ambition or motoring passion, notably through premium styling.

HEIGHTENED SENSATIONS

Sweeping away preconceived ideas on compact cars – with many being supposedly short on character – the new Citroen Lacoste proudly asserts that another way forward is possible.

Stylishly minimalist and elegantly laid-back, the Citroen Lacoste instantly attracts with its off-beat sports aesthetic. It features a high waistline; bulging and textured wings; minimum overhangs front and rear; and golf ball-style alloy wheels, placed in the furthest corners of the body.

After a longer inspection, it is this car’s “open” physique that appeals – promising a fulfilling drive, while expressing a wealth of inventiveness and elegance.

Passengers enjoy an open-air experience thanks to the broad cut-outs that replace the front doors and the lack of a hard-top roof. Journeys in the Citroen Lacoste inevitably heighten the senses, much more than in a protective bubble that cuts occupants off from the world. As if these intense sensations weren’t enough, the windscreen can also be lowered out of sight, providing a harmonious waistline around the entire cabin, front, back and sides.

The elegance of the Citroen Lacoste is underpinned by the choice of drivetrain. Rather than seeking enhanced driving sensations through flat-out speed, this new concept opts for a 3-cylinder petrol engine with plenty of performance on tap to power a vehicle of this size and weight. With its light timbre, the flexible, economical and ecological powerplant is a perfect match for the car’s “back to essentials” nature.

Citroën has released first details for the new DS4, a unique and attractive blend of creativity, dynamism, exclusivity and versatility. DS4 is the second model in Citroën’s distinctively-styled DS line.

DS4 brings an alluring mixture of premium design codes and a bold approach to automotive styling, with an emphasis on driving pleasure and advanced vehicle architecture. DS4 is a model with a multitude of talents, effortlessly responding to a broad range of owner needs, while enhancing the appeal and vitality of the motoring experience.

DS4 combines sophistication and refinement with a dynamic coupé-like body, creating exceptional versatility and day-to-day practicality within a compact design – 4.27m (l), 1.81m (w) & 1.53m (h).

DS4 delivers a new “at-the-wheel” experience with unrivalled driving sensations and outstanding agile on-road handling. With its slightly raised stance and taut lines, DS4 is a unique and eye-catching addition to the segment.

Finely crafted to convey a prestigious presence both inside and out, DS4 offers meticulous detailing from carefully applied chrome touches to premium cabin materials – such as the finest quality leather seats. A large panoramic windscreen, offering enhanced occupant visibility, illuminates the driver-focused cockpit, creating a bright and welcoming environment.

Combining coupé style with 2+2 door practicality, DS4 offers three full-sized rear seats, accessed by rear doors with hidden handles that are seamlessly integrated into the body’s flowing lines. DS4 also benefits from a capacious 370-litre boot and a host of clever storage solutions.

DS4 comes with a choice of five refined and efficient engines – two HDi diesels and three petrol powerplants.

All engines deliver a combination of powerful performance – including a new to Citroën 200hp petrol unit – and ecologically sensitive motoring. Citroën’s new e-HDi drivetrains for example deliver improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.

DS4 will be revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and is expected to go on sale later in 2011.

UNIQUE STYLING

An example of truly creative design, DS4 boldly blends a mix of the most desirable styling references to create an exciting new automotive proposition. Marc Pinson, DS4’s chief stylist, comments, “Reinterpreting cues opened up new possibilities, bringing practical and surprising solutions to automotive mobility”.

Compact and muscular, the DS signature on the bonnet is complemented by a striking LED light signature around the front fog lights. The LEDs are illuminated both day and night. The eye-catching profile, featuring a chrome-finished waistline surrounding dark tinted windows, is enhanced by muscular wheel arches – that emphasise the large wheels (up to 19”) – and is crowned by a tautly drawn roofline with a spoiler for added vitality. The lower part of the rear bumper is finished in chrome and the horizontal detailing on the rear light clusters highlights their innovative boomerang design.

TAILORED INTERIOR

As with its prestigious exterior, DS4’s cabin exudes power, dynamism and refinement. The driving position is enveloping, with chrome-surround dials focused directly towards the driver’s eye-line. The characterful, sculptured dashboard also uses high quality materials for a superior tactile feel.

DS4’s cabin is dominated by the large panoramic windscreen that extends backwards into the roofline. Offering up to 45° of upward vision, the panoramic glazed area combines with DS4’s slightly raised stance, to provide optimised visibility for the driver, with a bright yet intimate, airy cabin environment for passengers.

Allowing owners to personalise the interior, DS4 is available with a choice of five leather combinations, including two-tone options. Range-topping models are also equipped with high quality leather on the dashboard and door panels – complete with a ‘Bracelet’ design on the seats, evoking the links of a watch strap.

For an added touch of luxury, there is chrome detailing on the air vent surrounds, instrument cluster, gear lever and parts of the central console. Aluminium pedals, embossed leather door handles and ambient lighting are further evidence of DS4’s attention to premium detail.

NATURALLY DYNAMIC & AGILE

With its high-set, taut and agile stance, DS4 is tuned for dynamic performance, appealing to drivers looking for an involving motoring experience. “We really wanted drivers to feel like they have the road at the tips of their fingers”, says Jérémie Maestracci, DS4’s project manager.

On the road, DS4 exercises exemplary control, giving occupants a reassuring sense of safety in all circumstances. Fitted with a MacPherson type suspension assembly at the front, a flexible transverse beam at the rear and hydraulic steering with an electric pump unit, the platform is a tried and tested solution tailored for the distinctive set-up of the car.

Depending on trim level, DS4 is fitted with large-diameter (340mm) ventilated disc brakes and, as standard, with dedicated braking control systems, including ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). Ensuring optimal vehicle control in the most demanding driving situations, DS4 also features intelligent traction control with ESP.

DS4 will be launched with a choice of five refined and highly efficient Euro 5 engines. The two HDi diesels – an HDi 110 (also available as an e-HDi version) and an HDi 160 – are both fitted with Citroën’s Diesel Particulate Filter System. The three petrol powerplants – VTi 120, THP 155 and the new THP 200 – were co-developed with BMW. The new THP 200 – based on the 1.6-litre engine – delivers flexible power delivery and performance thanks to its power output (147kW), plentiful torque (275Nm at 1,700rpm) – with low CO2 emissions of just 149g/km. All engines are available with manual or EGS six-speed gearboxes.

Special attention has been given to the car’s internal acoustics, retaining the refined atmosphere on-board by minimising engine vibration, wind and road noise. This has been achieved by specifying a laminated panoramic windscreen with damping film, fitting additional sound absorbent material around the engine compartment and enhanced sealing barriers on the body and doors.

EXPERTLY EFFICIENT

DS4 was designed from the start to have a reduced environmental footprint – especially evident in its construction – by using top-quality components, an ecologically focused manufacturing process and the use of ‘green materials’ – around 15% of the 200kg of plastic used in DS4 vehicle is derived from ‘green materials.’

DS4 can be specified with Citroen’s micro-hybrid e-HDi technology, which is available from launch on versions powered by the HDi 110 engine.

The e HDi system comprises of:

an economical HDi Euro 5 diesel power plant

a new generation Stop & Start system, which instantly cuts out the engine when the car comes to a halt (red lights, traffic jams).

a second-generation reversible alternator and an e-booster function that restarts the engine instantly (0.4 seconds)

an electronically controlled alternator that recovers energy during braking;

an Electronic Gearbox System (EGS) with optimised gear changes.

All required features such as the radio, air-conditioning and steering functions remain in operation when the engine is stopped by the system. This innovative technology can reduce the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by as much as 15% in built-up urban environments.

DAY-TO-DAY PLEASURE

DS4’s compact exterior belies a spacious and luxuriously comfortable cabin, which can be easily accessed by the car’s 2+2 door layout. To make it easier to access the rear seats – often seen as a weak point for some sporty models – DS4 features seamlessly integrated rear doors with handles hidden in the door frames.

Thanks to its optimised design, the front doors of DS4 have been made narrower and lighter, making them easier to open and close, promoting easy access at the front.

Another asset in terms of versatility and roominess is DS4’s 370-litre (VDA) boot, which is similar in volume to that of many conventional saloons.

DS4 also has numerous storage compartments for extra travelling comfort, including a large, well lit glove box; door pockets big enough for 1.5-litre bottles; and even a drawer under the front passenger seat. The intelligent architecture of the high-level central console (available on models fitted with EGS) also provides spacious storage areas. The largest of these – which is cooled, illuminated and protected by a sliding cover – can hold up to four 50-cl bottles and houses a connectivity area with an audio-jack, a USB port and a 12-volt socket. The large compartment located under the front armrest also features an additional power source.

In addition to Citroën Racing’s official participation in WRC, where it has won five FIA World Championship Constructors’ titles, Citroën Racing has always offered products designed for customers.

The champion team has now furthered this rich tradition with Citroën DS3 R3, a model set to make its rallying debut at the end of 2010. Versatile, high performance and yet affordably-priced, DS3 R3 is set to become the new leader in its category.

Based on the FIA’s new Group R3T regulations, DS3 R3 features the same structural design and appearance as the production model, with the production steel body shell reinforced by a welded, multi-point roll cage, improving the resilience of the chassis and safety for the driver pairing.

Under the bonnet lies a four-cylinder 1.6-litre THP (high pressure turbo) engine, which has been developed using the PSA production engine. Specific racing parts (air box, camshaft, pistons, connecting rods, exhaust and turbo systems, electronic unit, etc.) have been deployed to boost the car’s power to 210bhp. In addition to its overall power, special attention has been given to increasing the engine’s torque to improve traction, one of the key factors in delivering efficient driving performance. With 350Nm, the DS3 R3 engine offers unrivalled flexibility on the road.

DS3 R3 has benefitted from the extensive expertise acquired by Citroën Racing through its involvement in the World Rally Championship. As with the C4 WRC, the six-speed gearbox features semi-automatic sequential control, enabling gear changes to be made twice as quickly as with a manual gearbox, whilst also improving the reliability of the car’s powertrain.

The suspension system uses the very latest technologies and has been designed for all road surfaces, from rough gravel to smooth tarmac. A wide variety of setup options are available, allowing DS3 R3 to be adapted to all driving styles. Citroën Racing recommends the use of BFGoodrich tyres.

Built using production-derived components and specific racing parts, DS3 R3 is available at an affordable price and will be marketed by Citroën Racing in kit and ready-to-race versions.

CHASSIS: CITROËN RACING, EXPERTS WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY

Citroën Racing has deployed its extensive expertise in passive safety and chassis rigidity on DS3 R3. The standard monocoque chassis is lighter because it does not have the supports used on the production model. It has been re-welded and fitted with a multi-point roll cage made of over 45 metres of steel tubing. The industrially designed roll cage is pre-assembled outside the car, which means the welding is of a higher quality. Various details of the chassis design, such as the harness cross-member and the door crossbars, help to improve safety for the driver pairing. The monocoque chassis is delivered with all the brackets and mountings required to assemble the car, which reduces the construction time and cost.

In order to improve weight distribution, the battery and automatic fire extinguisher are positioned behind the seats. A steel skidplate protects the underside of the engine and also helps to lower the car’s centre of gravity. The flexible, FIA-homologated fuel tank remains in its original position.

GROUND LINK SYSTEMS: ADAPTABLE AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE SUSPENSION

DS3 R3’s efficiency on all road surfaces stems from the quality of its suspension system, designed to make full use of the Group R regulations. At the front, the production sub-frame has been altered so that tubular wishbones can be fitted. The axle is both lighter and stronger than on the production model. Developed in conjunction with BOS, the shock absorbers boast several innovative features:

- The aluminium struts are lubricated in an oil bath, which improves the consistency and lifespan of the suspension.

- The lower, frontally-offset anchor point helps increase the travel and the guiding length of the shock absorber.

In order to adapt its road handling to all driving styles, DS3 R3 offers a variety of setup options: three track shock absorbers (low and high-speed compression and rebound, adjustable hydraulic bump stop), camber and toe (front and rear), track width and castor (front).

At the rear, the production cross-member has been reinforced and altered to make it easier to fit the anti-roll bar. The removable rear wheel hubs allow the camber and toe settings to be adjusted independently.

The braking system features a ‘pedal box’ assembly with two master cylinders. The discs are held in place by four-calliper pistons at the front and two-calliper pistons at the rear. The handbrake is hydraulic.

ENGINE: A 1.6-LITRE HIGH-PRESSURE TURBO WITH INCREDIBLE TORQUE

For the first time ever, Citroën Racing has produced a customer-racing product fitted with a turbocharged engine. The experience acquired by the brand in WRC for almost ten years has been put to good use in its design. The 1.6-litre THP (high pressure turbo) engine is very closely related to the production model used throughout the PSA Group. Fitted with a regulation-compliant 29mm turbo flange, it develops 210bhp of power and generates a torque of 350Nm (with commercially available fuel). This second value improves traction and delivers excellent versatility at all engine speeds.

In accordance with the regulations, many parts have been taken or derived from the production model. For example, the intake and exhaust manifolds, turbocharger, injectors and injection pumps are identical to those used on production models. The air filter, camshaft, pistons, connecting rods and engine flywheel are, however, specific racing parts. To avoid oil surges during long corners and to increase ground clearance, the oil sump has been altered and fitted with a composite partition. The exhaust and turbocharger system is also specific; the catalytic converter is similar to the one used on C4 WRC. DS3 R3’s engine ECU also includes a data acquisition system that is able to check a large number of parameters.

GEARBOX: A MAJOR FIRST WITH SEMI-AUTOMATIC CONTROL

One of the main innovations on DS3 R3 concerns its gearbox. For the first time, a customer-racing product has been fitted with a semi-automatic gearbox, which reduces the time spent changing gears and increases reliability. The electronic management system only authorises gear changes when the engine parameters allow it. Once again, the expertise developed by Citroën Racing in WRC enabled this cutting-edge technology to be adapted to DS3 R3.

Inside the cabin, the composite fibre steering wheel-mounted paddles are just as ergonomic as on C4 WRC: the driver flicks the paddle backwards to move up the gears and flicks it forwards to move down the gears. The clutch pedal is still present, but is only used to drive off. During subsequent gear changes, the clutch is automatically controlled.

Under the bonnet, the specific elements of the semi-automatic control (solenoid valves, actuators and pressure unit) have all been taken from the production model and adapted to the six-speed gearbox. The housing for the twin-disc clutch has been cast in aluminium, whilst the gearing casing has been cut from the block.

DEVELOPMENT: OVER 10,000KM OF TESTING

After twelve months spent in Citroën Racing’s design office, DS3 R3 made its first outing at the end of August 2009. To check the sturdiness of the various components, initial testing was carried out on ‘rough gravel’ test tracks, typical of the road surfaces seen in Mediterranean rallies. Development testing continued on tarmac, the ideal surface to test performance, and on flowing gravel roads. In total, DS3 R3 covered over 10,000km in development testing, split evenly among the different types of road surfaces.

Several drivers took part in the tests. They all had varying levels of experience, different preferences and driving styles, which meant that the engineers could accumulate data that will benefit future DS3 R3 owners. All of the drivers agreed that the car was easy to drive and highlighted three strengths: the torque of the 1.6-litre engine, the semi-automatic gearbox and the suspension. DS3 R3 offers impressive performance levels and looks set to become the new leader in its category in rallying.

With a clear contrast between DS High Rider’s large panoramic windscreen and its dark-shaded roof lining, the cabin is an exclusive environment with an emphasis on sporting luxury – also evidenced by the extensive application of leather and chrome detailing.

The instrument panel, seats and door panels are all finished in a quality, full-grain leather with clearly defined over-stitching and a ‘bracelet’ design on the seats. The DS initials are also subtly embossed into the leatherwork of the dashboard.

Completing the dynamic ambience of the interior, chrome detailing is used around the dials, steering wheel, air vents, gear stick and the arch that connects the instrument panel to the console. Chrome ‘DS’ inserts also feature, positioned just below the headrests on each of the front seats.

Mirroring the golden tone of the DS High Rider’s bodywork, the interior door panels are trimmed with a graduated grey to gold shading that required the careful application of specific varnishes to achieve the gilded, metallic look.

DS High Rider’s technology can be glimpsed in the controls mounted on the sculpted steering wheel, the colour screen in the centre console and the ‘Hybrid’ badge just below the gear stick – which asserts the model’s ecologically sensitive drivetrain.

Citroën has revealed the spectacular new Metropolis – a sleek and muscular concept car that pays homage to China’s extraordinary development. Created by Citroën’s international design team – based in Shanghai since 2008 – Metropolis will be on show in the French Pavilion at the Shanghai World Fair from 1st May to 31st October, 2010.

Reflecting China’s avant-garde status, grandeur and vitality, the sleek limousine concept immerses itself in ‘Créative Technologie’, balancing environmental responsibility with luxurious comfort and driving pleasure. Incorporating a plug-in hybrid drivetrain and Hydractive suspension, Metropolis produces CO2 emissions of just 70g/km – approximately one fifth that of a conventional engine with equivalent performance.

Metropolis’ distinctive silhouette is a vision of creative and sophisticated luxury with an imposing stature (5.3m long, 2m wide & 1.4m high), reflecting the dynamism and ambition of China in the 21st Century. Powerful and engaging, Metropolis’ subtle ‘Pearl Silk’ body colour changes under different light conditions, revealing the model’s generous curves and ultra-honed detailing.

Metropolis blends taut lines with smooth surfaces, evidenced particularly at the front where the sculpted, incisive wings and kite-shaped grille merge with the harmonious contours of the bonnet. The streamlined headlamps have an imperious and steely look, giving Metropolis a natural air of authority.

At the rear, Metropolis carefully balances width and stability with flowing aerodynamic lines – incorporating an active spoiler – and signature Citroën design flourishes, such as a concave rear window. Chrome touches around the side windows visually elongate the cabin, while ‘origami’ quarter-lights appear to float in the air – and also house a light source.

Metropolis’ powerful hybrid drivetrain utilises an optimised 2-litre V6 petrol engine and a 7-speed, dual-clutch electronic gearbox. At low speeds, Metropolis runs in Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mode, with its electric motor developing a continuous 55bhp (40kW), peaking at 95bhp (70kW). At steady speeds on main roads and motorways, the petrol powerplant efficiently provides 272bhp (200kW) and 375Nm of torque. When additional performance is required, such as during overtaking, the car uses both the electric motor and the combustion engine to deliver a maximum power output of 460bhp (345kW) and 430Nm of torque – equivalent to a 4-litre V8 petrol engine. There’s also a four-wheel drive mode for when extra grip is needed.

Delivering a smooth and cosseting ride experience, Metropolis is specified with Citroën’s renowned Hydractive suspension, which dampens even the roughest of road surfaces and improves the car’s aerodynamic performance – further helping to reduce CO2 emissions.

Chinais the world’s largest automotive market and Citroën’s second largest outsideEurope – having been established there for 20 years. The Shanghai World Fair is the perfect opportunity for the brand to reassert its international character and to show, once again, the importance it places on the needs and expectations of this rapidly developing market. With Metropolis, Citroën demonstrates that a blend of Chinese and French sensibilities can create a beautiful vision for the future.

These improvements affect all trim levels of the Saloon and Tourer that are powered by the HDi 110hp unit. Fuel economy, over the combined cycle, has improved 6% to 56.5mpg, whilst CO2 emissions have been slashed by 10g/km, from 140g to 130g. The changes bring these C5 models into the new VED Band D, qualifying them for free road tax in the first year. Company car drivers also stand to benefit, thanks to a 1-point reduction in BIK taxation rates – down to 18%.

Gary Savage, Managing Director of Citroën UK, comments, “A bold, definitive statement of intent for Citroën and a confident step in the opposite direction to its main competitors, DS3 brings a real alternative to a market sector dominated by retro designs. DS3 is about modernity, creativity, individual style and a driving experience packed with personality.”

He continues, “DS3 dares to be different – whilst delivering the comfort, quality, technology and ecologically considerate performance for which Citroën is well recognised.”

THE MARKET

DS3 is a new addition in the ‘premium’ small hatchback/supermini class, which includes competitor models such as MINI, MINI Clubman, Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo MiTo.

In this sector of the market, customers are looking for a compact car with a distinctive character, an enhanced image and head-turning ‘look-at-me’ excitement.

DS3 will appeal to individuals who like to invest in quality of design, quality of construction and the quality of the ownership experience.

In today’s world where technology provides the ability to tailor products and services to individual lifestyles, DS3’s extensive list of personalisation options make it a natural choice for the expressive, the style-conscious and the most discerning of small car buyers.

With its practical space, responsive performance and consummate quality, DS3 will also appeal to 3-door medium-size hatchback customers (the segment above), who are looking to downsize without compromise.

STYLING – EXTERIOR

Exuding vivaciousness and undeniable appeal, DS3 looks like no other car on the road today – if being noticed is on the agenda, then DS3 delivers!

DS3’s dynamic, engaging outline is characterised by three distinctive features.

The ‘floating’ roof design emphasises DS3’s low-slung waist line, giving the body purpose and the clear suggestion of agility.

The eye-catching outline of the B-pillar – inspired by the evocative silhouette of a shark’s fin – creates a dynamic posture and propels the lines of the side profile forwards towards DS3’s defined front end.

At the front of DS3, the piercing ‘gaze’ of two sparkling vertical LED strips assert the model’s sporty styling, illuminating the car’s sculpted bumper in a thoroughly premium statement for the segment.

Quality is evident across the exterior of DS3, from the textured patterns of the optional roof designs to the chrome trim sparkling on the door mirrors, door handles and side rubbing strips. Even DS3’s badge – mounted in the centre of the bonnet – is crafted like a jewel.

The car’s dynamic stance is further enhanced with an extensive choice of attractive, sculpted alloy wheels in a range of sizes, colours and finishes – including 17” alloys with a ‘diamond-tipped’ design, in a choice of colours and with colour co-ordinated centre caps.

Dark tinted rear windows – standard specification on DStyle models and above – complete DS3’s sporty and exclusive appearance.

STYLING – INTERIOR

Inside, DS3 is beautifully appointed, sporty and driver-focused. With low-slung, body-hugging seats, all commands and controls are neatly orientated towards the driver’s eye line. The materials used in the carefully crafted interior have been specially selected to create a sophisticated and engaging cabin environment.

The top of the dashboard is finished with a soft-to-the-touch, tactile covering that contrasts with the smooth lacquered effect of the dashboard strip. A standard specification sculpted leather steering wheel – with chrome or aluminium inserts – emphasises the sporty ambitions of the model.

All upholstery materials are of a prestigious quality, with fine tactile leather available to complement the range of refined and contemporary fabrics. When specified, the optional leather upholstery adds features like a leather trimmed gear knob and leather door panels.

As much a design statement as functional technology, the main instrument binnacle features three

aviation-inspired displays. When the driver turns on DS3’s ignition, the car bursts into life sending the glowing needles spinning around the dials, before returning to zero.

MY DS3

Each DS3 experience is unique, because each car is designed for the individual, by the individual.

With a comprehensive choice of customisable options – unprecedented for a new car by a mainstream manufacturer – each DS3 can be tailored to a driver’s own performance, style and technology preferences.

Delivering dynamic sporty looks or a more elegant, chic appearance – according to the preferences of the customer – there are 38 body and roof colour combinations to choose from, whilst door mirrors, wheels and wheel centre caps are available in a vast range of colours and combinations. DS3 even offers a selection of ‘Spirits’, which include stylish roof graphics and matching carpet mats.

Inside, drivers can select from several colour cloths and premium leathers, with the dashboard available in up to six finishes including red, blue, white and even aluminium or carbon fibre effects. The gearstick knob is also offered in several different colours, which blend with satin-finished chrome.

Using a special DS3 configurator*, the DS3 personalisation process starts with customers selecting their preferred engine and trim level. Depending on their initial choices, buyers are then presented with a choice of body colours, roof colours and roof graphics, as well as a host of other features to select from – such as chrome door mirrors and chrome rubbing strips; alloy wheels in different sizes, styles and colours; front bumper LEDs; upholstery materials; and the colour schemes of the dashboard and gear knob.

There are also equipment ‘signature’ packs to choose from, which include executive car features such as automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors, MyWay satellite navigation, Connecting Box (Bluetooth® with USB socket) and a front central armrest.

As a reminder of the bespoke nature of DS3 ownership, a disc mounted in each key fob is finished in the same colour as either the car’s body or roof.

*The DS3 configurator can be found at www.citroen.co.uk/new-cars/car-configurator

COMFORT & SPACE

DS3’s intelligent internal architecture means it is both compact and deceptively spacious – a characteristic Citroën design paradox.

At just 3.95m long, 1.72m wide and 1.46m or 1.48m high, DS3 is easily manoeuvrable and perfectly suited to the urban environment, but offers one of the most generous cabin environments with five seats, class-leading levels of occupant space and the biggest boot in the segment at 285-litres.

Thanks to a 60:40 split-folding rear bench, DS3 delivers modular versatility. With an effortless mechanism, tumbling the rear seats forwards allows DS3 to transport luggage with dimensions of up to 1029 x 1156 x 620mm, with a maximum load volume of 980-litres – a big feat for a small car.

Full consideration has been given to the maximisation of interior space and the comfort of occupants. The raised dashboard, with its recessed passenger footwell, creates additional front leg room, and the slender design of the front seats also frees up room for rear passengers. Front and rear elbow room are best in the segment.

Inside the cabin, the welcoming contours of the seats encapsulate occupants in an environment of quality and comfort. A front central armrest, with a handy storage compartment, is available for additional comfort on long journeys.

Benefiting from meticulous levels of soundproofing, DS3’s cabin is both a calm and peaceful environment.

A chrome-finished, integrated air-freshener adds a contemporary Citroën touch.

TECHNOLOGY

DS3 is offered with an impressive array of technology to keep occupants connected and in control.

For added comfort, safety and convenience on long distance journeys, cruise control with speed limiter is fitted as standard. Automatic digital air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, automatic headlamps and automatic rain-sensitive windscreen wipers can also be specified.

With a focus on environmentally conscious motoring, DS3 is fitted as standard with a Gear Efficiency Indicator that signals the optimum moment for the driver to change gear – encouraging more fuel efficient driving.

Citroën’s integrated satellite navigation and entertainment system, MyWay, offers European-wide guidance with live traffic updates all displayed on a full-colour 7” wide screen. The standard specification CD player is MP3 compatible, and Bluetooth® allows hands-free telephony and wireless music streaming.

Auxiliary inputs are standard across the range, so MP3 players can always be connected to the car’s audio system. For enhanced functionality, the ‘Connect Signature’ pack can be specified that adds a Connecting Box (Bluetooth® and USB connectivity) – with a socket on the central console that allows portable MP3 players to be controlled via the car’s audio system buttons.

‘Connect Signature’ also incorporates the eight-speaker Hi-Fi system, with an additional speaker located in the middle of the upper dashboard and an amplified subwoofer in the boot. This high quality sound system delivers a rich acoustic range with impressive depth for concert-like audio clarity.

POWER & DYNAMICS

As comfortable on the open road as it is in built-up urban environments, DS3 boasts high-precision running gear with springing and damping developed to ‘read’ the road. The result is responsive handling, minimal body roll and impressive poise in corners.

A small-diameter steering wheel and precisely calibrated power steering combine to give drivers a rewarding sense of feedback from the road. A tight turning circle of just 10.2m or 10.4m – dependent on wheel size – means DS3 is easily manoeuvrable and perfectly suited to congested city streets.

A ‘part by part’ focus on limiting overall weight, optimising aerodynamics, and advancing the engine technology, ensures DS3 manages both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions intelligently and efficiently.

Spirited and environmentally responsible, DS3’s range of five refined powerplants offer sporty credentials with Citroën’s new punchy THP 150hp engine and low CO2 emissions of just 99g/km with the HDi 90hp diesel (DStyle 99g).

The three petrol powerplants – VTi 95hp, VTi 120hp & THP 150hp – were co-developed with BMW and are mated to either 5 or 6-speed manual gearboxes. Over the combined cycle, CO2 emissions range between 134 and 155g/km.

The punchy performance of DS3’s top-of-the-range THP 150 engine offers a thrilling driving experience with a finely-tuned sporty feel.

The two highly efficient HDi diesels – 90hp & 110hp – are fitted with Citroën’s lauded DPFS (Diesel Particulate Filter System), and are also mated to either 5 or 6-speed manual gearboxes. The 90hp version emits 104g/km of CO2 and the 110hp produces just 118g/km. Fuel economy is up to 70.6mpg over a combined cycle. Benefiting from Citroën’s 12 years of experience in HDi innovation, DS3’s diesel engines are not only exceptionally frugal, but with high levels of responsive torque, are also fun and easy to drive.

A ‘green’ leader for the segment, the DStyle 99g is powered by Citroën’s renowned HDi 90hp engine, which – in this model – produces CO2 emissions of just 99g/km and fuel economy of up to 74.3mpg.

SAFETY

A cocoon of safety and reassuring security, DS3 has been awarded a maximum five star Euro NCAP rating for occupant protection. Providing capable handling in the most slippery of driving conditions, all models are equipped with ESP as standard, together with ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and EBA (Emergency Brake Assist). DS3 features six airbags as standard, plus two Isofix child seat anchor points on the outside rear seats.

TRIMS

DS3 features three trim levels – DSign, DStyle & DSport – with the DStyle 99g emitting just 99g/km of CO2.

With DS3 style as standard, DSign models are far from being a basic proposition – not the case with many competitors’ entry-level models in this class. The DSign trim features generous levels of standard equipment, which includes leather steering wheel, an MP3-compatible CD player with steering mounted controls, front fog lights, electric door mirrors, cruise control with speed limiter, ESP, six airbags, electric windows, remote central locking and Gear Efficiency Indicator.

At the heart of the range, DStyle models gain the striking front bumper mounted LEDs, air-conditioning, dark tinted rear windows, contrasting body and roof colours, roof coloured painted door mirrors with a chrome base, shiny-finished black dashboard and 16” diamond-tipped alloy wheels.

Combining luxury touches with sporty styling, DSport models feature chrome side rubbing strips, a rear spoiler with an integrated third brake light, a chrome double exhaust pipe, drilled aluminium pedals and 17” black diamond-tipped alloys. The ‘Connect Signature’ pack, which includes Bluetooth®, USB socket and the eight-speaker Hi-Fi system is standard specification – as is automatic digital air-conditioning.

The DStyle 99g is based on the DStyle trim. Externally, the only difference is the addition of 16” steel wheels with wheel covers, in place of the DStyle’s 16” alloys.

PRICES

The DS3 range starts at £11,700 for the VTi 95hp DSign, rising to £15,900 for the top-of-the-range THP 150hp and the HDi 110hp DSport models. A fully specified DSport THP 150hp with all available options costs just under £19,000.

As an example of the extensive personalisation that DS3 offers – and the resulting price – a mid-range VTi 120hp DStyle, specified with a metallic body colour, contrasting roof, chrome door mirrors and rubbing strips, 16” white diamond-tipped alloy wheels, LEDs, mistral cloth upholstery, a shiny black dashboard and the ‘Connect Signature’ pack (Bluetooth®, USB socket and the eight-speaker Hi-Fi), has an OTR price of £14,650 – just £950 more than an unpersonalised DStyle.

Organised by the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, the exhibition features more than 300 pieces from the designer’s collection. Presented in their historical and cultural context, they create a panoramic vision of the illustrious fashion figure’s body of work, from his Dior debut in 1958 to retirement in 2002. The public also get a first look at the entire series of photographs of Yves Saint Laurent taken by Jean-Loup Sieff in 1971.

Embodying radical styling and distinctive luxury, DS3 is perfectly suited to the Yves Saint Laurent label, whose designer, with his elegant and anti-conformist aesthetic, revolutionised the female fashion world.

The luxury sports tourer, an alliance between Citroën and Maserati, was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on 11th March 1970 – 40 years ago today.

Technically innovative, with a dynamic, yet supremely comfortable ride experience, the Citroën SM was highly regarded for its futuristic styling, prestigious quality, ‘magic-carpet’ suspension and outstanding performance – a unique combination of characteristics not available in any other car at the time.

Officially recognised as a truly exceptional vehicle in the early 1970’s, the SM placed third in the European Car of the Year Awards in 1971 – the winner was Citroën’s GS. The SM also received the Motor Trend Car of the Year Award in the US in 1972.

Powered by a Maserati V6 engine, the SM was one of the fastest front-wheel drive cars of its day, with a top speed in excess of 220km/h (137mph). A competitive performer in motorsport, the SM won its first race at the Morocco Rally in 1971.

Pioneering innovative technology, the SM introduced a new type of variable assist power-steering, which made it easier to manoeuvre at lower speeds and provided greater resistance at higher speeds for improved control and handling.

The car also featured hydro-pneumatic suspension with automatic height correction and six headlamps with automatic levelling. Four power-assisted disc brakes, with independent front and rear circuits, automatically adjusted brake power according to vehicle load and weight distribution.

Renowned SM owners have included U.S. comedian Jay Leno, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, author Graham Greene and actor Lee Majors. French Presidents from Georges Pompidou to Jacques Chirac used two specially modified 4-door convertible ‘présidentielle’ models, created by coach builder Henri Chapron.
