Kia has today released the first official design sketches of the next generation Picanto city car designed to stand out from the crowd.
The new model has been styled by Kia’s European design team based in Frankfurt, Germany, under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer.
Exuding self confidence, solidity and maturity, the next generation Picanto is designed to break the city car mould and will be officially unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2011 and will be on sale in the UK from late Spring.
A vehicle lighter than a Formula 1 racing car… Experiencing the adrenaline rush of carving through the canyons with up to 3 friends… Not using a drop of gasoline… Now just imagine if these dreams could be brought together in a single vehicle. During Los Angeles Auto Show a scale model of this car – Volvo Air Motion – will be on display and participates in the Design Challenge Competition.
Tipping the scales at under 1,000lbs the Volvo Air Motion Concept makes these dreams a reality and delivers this in a beautiful Scandinavian body. Designed like a clam shell and sculptured from ultra light carbon fiber.

Japanese manufacturer Subaru recently unveiled the Impreza Design Concept, which previews the carmaker’s new ‘Confidence in Motion’ design and brand strategy, at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
For the sporty four-door coupe the designers blended two ideas – ‘dynamic flow’ and ‘confident stance’ – while also incorporating Subaru’s core engineering values of dynamic performance through permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, safety, enjoyment and quality.
The Impreza Design Concept is powered by a combination of the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Boxer engine with a Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). This combination represents Subaru’s next-generation of powertrain. (Lineartronic is currently only available on 2.5-litre models in the UK).

Lotus Engineering, the world-renowned automotive consultancy division of Lotus Cars Limited today announces its latest series hybrid vehicle technology application in the PROTON Concept, which will be unveiled at the 80th International Geneva Motor Show. The complete hybrid drivetrain in the PROTON Concept city car has been developed by Lotus Engineering and it includes the Lotus Range Extender engine, designed specifically for series hybrid vehicles.

Vauxhall will unveil a dramatic concept car at this year’s Geneva Show that is set to boost its credentials as a leader in environmental vehicles. The Flextreme GT/E illustrates how extended-range electric vehicle (E-REV) technology can be plugged into large or mid-sized vehicles, as well as compact cars, like the upcoming Ampera.
Vauxhall calls the strategy underpinning Flextreme GT/E, ‘e-mobility unlimited’, which will effectively adapt the highly efficient E-REV drive system to vehicles across all market segments. In other words, the Flextreme GT/E concept shows that size really doesn’t matter when it comes to driving a car with zero C02 emissions.
