A new Peugeot 107 is introduced in February 2012 featuring a stylish ‘new face’, improved fuel economy, lower CO2 emissions and enhanced equipment with an upgraded interior.

The 107’s stylish appeal, along with its accomplished economical three-cylinder petrol engine, has helped Peugeot take a lead in low-CO2 urban motoring, and this is now strengthened further with emissions of just 99 g/km of CO2.

The new restyled 107 is instantly recognisable by the changes to the car’s front styling, with a deeper lower front panel with a housing for the front fog lights, LED daytime running lights and a redesigned front bumper.

As part of the restyle of the 107 range, there are 3 trim levels on offer which are in line with the naming strategy of other Peugeot range models (Access, Active and Allure). Within these trim levels, features such as Peugeot Connect Bluetooth and USB and LED Daytime running lights are now available for the first time on the 107 range.

In addition to the new equipment available, the restyled range also offers better equipment across the range with air conditioning now standard on Active level versions, alloy wheels and rev counter, Peugeot Connect Bluetooth and USB standard on Allure level versions.

In line with this restyle, the new 107 adopts a competitive pricing strategy with the range starting from £7,995.

Perhaps surprisingly for such a small car, it is the 5-door version (with 59.6% of total sales) that out-sells the 3-door model (40.4%), underlining the 107’s excellent packaging, which makes the most of its interior space and belies its compact wheelbase to provide a vehicle capable of transporting four people in comfort.

The Peugeot 107 range also offers even better value than ever; with Peugeot’s innovative Just Add Fuel™personal finance package, buyers can drive it away with three years’ fully comprehensive insurance (available from 25 years of age), three years’ warranty, three years’ servicing and three years’ roadside assistance, all for a single fixed monthly payment (the Peugeot 107 is zero-rated for vehicle excise duty).

Over 650,000 Peugeot 107s have been produced since 2005, and the latest 107 arrives in February 2012.

Peugeot has delivered an iOn to the idyllic islands of Orkney, making it the most northerly all electric car in Britain.

In a drive to cut fuel bills and reduce emissions, Orkney Island Council has become the latest Scottish authority to boost its fleet with one.

And as the success of the all electric car – which is capable of covering more than 90 miles on a full charge – grows and its capabilities become more widely recognised, the Leader of the Council is delighted that it runs on something the remote islands have in abundance – renewable energy.

Stephen Hagan said: “Much of the electricity used in Orkney is delivered from renewable sources, mainly wind turbines at present, and with a growing number of wave and tidal energy devices already being tested in the waters around our islands, this will increase.

“We were keen to road test the potential for electric vehicles in Orkney and thanks to the funding from Transport Scotland, we were able to purchase the Peugeot iOn.”

He added: “In many ways the Peugeot iOn is well suited to our island way of life. It has zero emissions, it’s nippy and here in Orkney we can charge it up using electricity generated from the wind, waves and tides.

“While electric cars are normally best suited for city locations, but here on Orkney it is easily coping with our demands. The iOn can easily manage the trip from our offices here in Kirkwall to Birsay, our most northerly parish, and then to South Ronaldsay at the opposite end of our island chain.”

Enlisted as a pool car, it is already a popular choice for the car park and attendants and road technicians who use the iOn to get around the islands.

Phil Robson, Peugeot Fleet Director, said: “Here at Peugeot we have led the way on many innovations and the all-electric iOn is another successful chapter in our 200-year history.”

“While the iOn can lay claim to being the most northerly electric car in Britain, it isn’t the most northerly electric vehicle, that title belongs to a specially converted Peugeot Explorer van being used by the local authority in Shetland!” he added.

The iOn’s arrival on Orkney ironically comes three weeks after the car won the inaugural Electric Car of the Year award handed out by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers.

Praised for its “ease of use, realistic battery range and affordability”, it was the iOn’s actual driving characteristics that the Scottish journalists compared to any petrol or diesel car in its small car category which gave the iOn the edge over its rivals.

In the spring of 2012, Peugeot will launch its new model in the ‘B’ (Supermini) segment. The new car will be available in two distinct body styles; 3- and 5-door.

Today, when creating a vehicle capable of appealing to and uniting a wide variety of customers with ever changing expectations, simple renewal is no longer enough. Therefore, from the outset, the ‘A9’ Project adopted the most ambitious specification overhaul ever undertaken by the Marque to create a vehicle that represents a true generation leap.

Peugeot has not hesitated to rewrite the rulebook, with the desire to reinvent the principles on which the success of icons like the 205, 206 and 207 were built and to ‘re-generate’ them, to create the Peugeot 208.

“The 208 is a new illustration of the Marque’s project launched two years ago, representing a new stage in Peugeot’s desire to drive itself towards ever greater modernity.”
Xavier Peugeot, Marketing and Communication Director, Automobiles Peugeot

“With the 208, Peugeot has given itself the means to recreate an icon.”
Laurent Blanchet, Product Range Director, Automobiles Peugeot

Architectural re-generation

The 208 embodies the principles of agility and efficiency. The initial technical choices make it a vehicle which is light (110kg lighter on average compared to the 207, and as much as –173kg! with a range which starts at 975kg), aerodynamic (Cd of 0.29, CdA of 0.61), and very compact (-7cm in length, -1cm in height). These benefits are accentuated by noticeably increased occupant space, with more room in the rear seats (+5cm at the knees) and a more generous boot (+15 dm3 in volume), proof of optimised architectural performance.

Stylistic re-generation

The 208 gives form to and refines the new aesthetic codes of the Marque. ‘Floating’ grille, light signature, ‘boomerang’ rear lamps – each detail is designed in complete harmony with the balance of the car, structured by a ‘spine’ the impression of which is even visible on the roof. Sculpted, athletic, pure and sophisticated, its style projects the Marque towards a renewed and attractive modernity, suggesting sensuousness and energy, smoothness and mischief. The two body styles have been given entirely different treatments, with the style of the quarter panel of the three-door version recalling one of its illustrious older siblings.

“The strength of the 208 lies in its style: it is a real ball of energy. It has the potential to please everyone, like a popular piece of music that touches the human soul regardless of culture.”

Gilles Vidal, Style Director, Automobiles Peugeot

Ergonomic re-generation

The interior continues the promise of innovation just like the exterior style. A true break from what has gone before, beyond the recognised technical constraints and cultural references, the instruments and controls have been completely re-thought to become entirely intuitive and clear. They are positioned around a small steering wheel, combined with an elevated instrument panel giving information at a glance and a large touch screen. This ‘ensemble’ connects with its occupants and contributes to the practicality, the safety, the quality and purity of the interior design, as well as to the driving sensations.

Environmental re-generation

By achieving average CO2 emissions of 34g/km lower than the 207, the 208 takes the lead in its segment. Its latest generation engine technology and the use of the e-HDi micro-hybrid system on virtually all versions add to the vehicle’s improvements in terms of weight reduction and aerodynamics.

With five models, four of which are equipped with the new generation Stop & Start System (e-HDi), the diesel range starts at 87g/km of CO2 (delivering fuel economy of 83.1 mpg) and never exceeds 99g! The 208 introduces a new range of 3-cylinder petrol engines, 1.0- and 1.2-litre VTi, which are particularly efficient, with a range starting at 99g/km of CO2 (delivering 65.7mpg).

The environmental performance of 208 continues, with 25% of ‘green materials’ (recycled or of natural origin) making up its mass of polymers, it enters a new era in terms of eco-design. As a world first, the rear bumper and the fan assembly are made entirely using these materials. This type of bumper alone will permit a saving in manufacturing of 1600 tonnes of fuel a year.

Re-generation of the driving experience

The 208 renews the driving experience, a key factor in the DNA of every Peugeot:

Due to the small steering wheel which provides new ergonomics, the driver experiences a completely new driving agility,

Due to a new level of engineering between comfort and road holding, the result of the historical expertise of the Marque in terms of suspension and the benefits from the compactness and reduced weight of the vehicle.

The new Peugeot 208 will be launched in mainland Europe in the spring and for the UK in the summer of 2012.

After the successful launch of the 508 Saloon and SW in spring 2011, where they were highly acclaimed for their styling elegance, on-the-road presence, high levels of build quality and attention to detail, the 508 RXH further elevates the profile of the entire Peugeot brand reinforcing its technological and environmental leadership.

The 508 RXH has a road presence and specific design that immediately places it in the environment of ‘top-level’ all road vehicles. Unique, refined, higher and wider, it is also distinguished by a singular visual identity, characterised by its distinctive LED daytime running lights that give an impression of having three vertical ‘lion claws’ on each side of its ‘floating’ grille, the combined style of which is all the more striking.

To reinforce its exclusive character, the interior of the 508 RXH benefits from special features with distinctive colours and the use of luxurious materials.

Its unique level of finish and equipment is coherent with the ‘top-of-the-range’ and technological positioning of the vehicle. Richly equipped as standard with electric front seats, head up display, 18″ wheels, panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows, half leather trim, head up display, latest generation audio and satellite navigation RXH welcomes its occupants with care, refinement and a high level of comfort features.

Equipped with the 2.0 l HDi FAP HYbrid4 powertrain, a world first when featured in the 3008 HYbrid4, the diesel-electric hybrid in the 508 RXH extends driving freedom and pleasure to traverse all roads. With a maximum power of 147 kW (200 bhp), four-wheel drive and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, the 508 RXH has been designed to adapt to all uses, in a wide spectrum of conditions. Furthermore, it opens up new perspectives in the segment, offering a ZEV (100% electric) mode, ideal for driving in town and capable of delivering, in the Combined Drive Cycle, 67.2 mpg with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.

Following the launch of the 3008 HYbrid4 in the autumn, the Peugeot Marque continues its innovative strategy, combining enhanced driving sensations and advanced environmental developments by extending HYbrid4 technology to other models.

The 508 RXH will be unveiled as a world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 2011, and goes on sale in spring 2012.

With business customers primarily in mind, Peugeot has launched a new dedicated website that allows fleet customers and company car drivers to compare key facts and figures to see which Peugeot or competitor is best in key sectors.

This new website is less prescriptive than some others as it allows users to prioritise the key elements that affect their choice, including the P11D cost of the vehicle, Company Car Tax, CO2 and MPG.

By simply visiting www.peugeotcompare.co.uk individuals can select a car or van option and will then find a simple-to-navigate site, with sliding adjustable scales at the top, determining the levels of importance of the four key criteria. As the sliders are moved, so the model choice increases or decreases as to how many of them qualify. At any point it is then possible to see displayed the applicable Peugeot line up and then introduce the competitors within the same criteria. It is also possible to compare with models outside the criteria, if felt necessary.

Phil Robson, Director, Fleet Sales, Peugeot UK, said: “At a time when we and our competitors offer our customers such a wide choice of models, I think it is important they get to evaluate the merits of our products in a way that suits them, and the ‘PeugeotCompare’ website brings an ease of use solution to an otherwise complicated dilemma. It also shows the strengths of all our products in a more levelled, comparable environment, and I encourage everyone to give it a try.”

The New Peugeot 308 is being launched onto the UK market integrating all the latest Peugeot styling elements already seen on the Peugeot 508 and the SR1 Concept Car. The new Peugeot 308 will be available in three body styles; Hatchback, CC and SW, and four multi-model trim levels; Access, SR, Active and Allure. A range topping hatchback and CC THP 200 model will also be available in a single GT trim level.

A new look at the front with the latest LED headlamps and running lights gives the New Peugeot 308 an elegant and modern look. All the dynamic and emotional strengths of the original Peugeot 308 have been retained and strengthened further with the introduction of more efficient engines and Peugeot’s innovative micro-hybrid e-HDi Stop & Start technology.

Peugeot’s micro-hybrid e-HDi Stop & Start technology is the latest generation technology and combined with Peugeot’s class leading 1.6 litre HDi FAP 112 Euro 5 diesel engine reduces CO2emissions to 98 g/km. This engine option will also be available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed electronically controlled manual gearbox (EGC). This will give the New Peugeot 308 the lowest emissions in its segment.

All models feature air conditioning, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), ABS, EBFD, EBA, front and rear electric windows with child security, remote control central door locking with deadlocks and six SMART safety airbags.

To ensure the New Peugeot 308 is as environmentally efficient as possible all factors affecting CO<sub>2</sub>emissions have been optimised;

Overall weight reduced by 25 kg on average on all models

Fitment of new 16” ultra low rolling resistance tyres

Optimisation of all engine options (VTi, THP petrol and HDi diesel engines to Euro5)

Cx of 0.28 for the low consumption models – Record for this segment

This also enables the New Peugeot 308 HDi FAP 92 model, fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox, to emit CO2 emissions of only 110 g/km.

At launch four petrol and four diesel engines will be available.

The HDi 112 diesel engine is available in two versions, with either a five-speed manual gearbox or Peugeot’s innovative e-HDi Stop & Start System with a six-speed electronically controlled manual gearbox (EGC). The fitment of the e-HDi Stop & Start System technology on the 508 enables customers to reduce fuel consumption (up to 15% in urban driving) and with the fitment of the EGC gearbox it produces just 109 g/km of CO2 in the Saloon and 110 g/km in the SW version.

The Peugeot 508 is also available with two different front suspension configurations. An all-new pseudo McPherson type front suspension will be the main option on the majority of the 508 range. As well as improved driveability this new set-up reduces weight, as it is 12kg lighter than the design featured on the Peugeot 407. The Peugeot 508 ‘GT’ model features a drop link double wishbone front suspension advancing the suspension design similar to the 407. The use of a linked double wishbone helps separate suspension and steering forces to improve road holding and steering accuracy.

At the rear, the entire range is equipped with multi-arm suspension. This is designed to ensure excellent efficiency with maximum body control and ride comfort due to its superior control of longitudinal and transverse forces.

Since its launch in November 2009 the Peugeot 3008 Crossover has been a great success with both the UK car buying public and the motoring media. It has already won two major awards from What Car? magazine – Crossover of the Year and Car of the Year 2010, and recorded over 10,000 sales in the UK this year.

Now this winning formula becomes even stronger with the introduction of a range of extra standard equipment. Both the Sport and Exclusive model ranges benefit from the following enhancements: all Sport models are now equipped with Peugeot Connect USB with Bluetooth (enables a portable MP3 or iPod to be connected to the car, and hands-free communication with a compatible mobile phone), flat folding passenger seat to increase the vehicle’s already great flexibility, and automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers.

The comprehensively equipped Exclusive model gets even more appeal with Peugeot Connect USB and Bluetooth, flat folding passenger seat, electric folding mirrors, electro-chrome interior mirror and exterior courtesy lights, all now fitted as standard.

From this month the Peugeot 3008 Crossover will also be available with a new Euro 5 112 HDi diesel engine. The previous HDi 110 Euro 4 engine will be replaced by this new HDi 112 Euro 5 engine, providing improved CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

Now with even more appeal, due to the enhanced standard equipment levels and reduced CO2emissions, the Peugeot 3008’s advantage over a conventional car just got even stronger.

The HR1 is an exclusive and innovative urban concept car that blends together a number of genres (city run-around, coupe and SUV). It is targeted at active young city dwellers smitten with design and innovation who are in search of a vehicle that matches their profile.

Peugeot is always exploring new motoring ideas and this inventiveness has already given rise to many production vehicles and concept cars, including a number of genuine commercial and design successes (Coupe/Cabriolet, the 3008….. and more recently the BB1 concept vehicle).

The HR1 is based on several different body designs: city run-around, coupe, SUV…. and, in doing so, is creating its own identity and new and original benefits.

The HR1 has been created to appeal to young city dwellers; individuals and couples, who lead an active outgoing life and who seek out new lifestyle experiences in relation to their leisure activities and their mobility.

It is designed to make urban travel easy and pleasurable even in the busiest or most confined urban areas. It is helped by its particularly compact dimensions (a length of 3.67 m and very short front and rear overhangs) but also an original system for getting into and out of the vehicle. Based on the Marque’s experience in this field, the HR1 has two electric “scissor” doors to facilitate access under all circumstances (restricted parking, small garage, etc…). To improve visibility and manoeuvrability and provide a dominant driving position, the ride height of the vehicle has been raised, also improving ground clearance.

The HR1 contains all the genes of the Peugeot Marque, whose new stylistic design codes were first unveiled on the SR1 Concept car. The HR1 shares the same expressive headlamps with their finely chiselled design and the single “floating” front grille which seems to be detached from the rest of the body, as the SR1.

The overall styling is athletic, powerful and dynamic and is strengthened further by the flowing wheel arches, large wheels and the raised sections above the rear windscreen, reminiscent of the “double bubble” roof design of the RCZ Coupe. The finesse of the superstructure, the two-tone interplay of polished and chrome materials, every component expresses the high level of build quality, a sign of the meticulous attention paid to every detail. This is true also of the headlamps and “full LED” rear lights, finished in the style of hi-tech jewels which give the car a unique signature by day and by night.

Innovation is a strong feature of all Peugeot models and especially the HR1. At the rear, the roof bars serve as an ingenious hinge for the opening one-piece, dark tinted glass tailgate.

In keeping with the recent design trends of the Marque’s latest vehicles, the interior of the HR1 has a structured design, with a “High-Tech Coupe” driving position, providing a special ambiance through the combination of style, quality of finish, equipment and ergonomics.

The driver and passenger are both provided with a “privileged area” within the vehicle, separated by a centre console which adds to the futuristic design and helps increase light levels due to the use of electroluminescent diodes. The fitment of the two glazed roof sections, dedicated to the right and left occupants, with an electro-chrome finish, also help to diffuse more light on request.

The car’s instrumentation suggests total command of the vehicle by the driver, with ergonomically placed controls, a small steering wheel, and a “Head-Up” display allowing information to be seen without the driver taking their eyes off the road.

The passenger compartment of the HR1 has a very “authentic” feel, dynamic, technological and protective, able to shield its occupants from the stress of the outside world.

The HR1 is equipped with particularly innovative controls which operate what is known as the “man-machine interface”.The concept car thus has a “movement recognition” system. Simple and intuitive, this allows the driver to scroll through functions and select available settings with a simple movement of the hand. For example, by rotating the hand the user can scroll menus, displayed in the manner of a carousel. The driver can also choose to switch control of the menus to the front passenger, with a sweep of the hand from left to right.

The technology controlled by this method includes the audio, satellite navigation and air conditioning systems. The driver can also select, at his discretion, the preferred type of information to be displayed in the instrument panel: rev counter, water and oil temperature during “dynamic driving”, or tourist information when “cruising”. The front passenger, meanwhile, benefits from a mobile PC tablet which allows data to be shared and exchanged with the driver’s display.

The ingenuity of the HR1 resides also in its modularity. It has been designed primarily for young city dwellers without children, in search of a fun vehicle that is fashionable and roomy enough to carry their leisure equipment (bicycle, diving equipment, etc…) or be loaded up with shopping. Its load area, practical and accommodating thanks to its flat floor and sides, offers a load space of 734 litres.

The passenger compartment can be very quickly configured to accommodate either three or four full size seats, thanks to the clever “stowaway seat” system. With this system the rear seats fold down flat and then fit snugly behind the front seats creating a flat load area floor. As on the RCZ, the special shape of the rear tailgate glass with its raised “double bubble” sections, allows the rear headroom to be optimised. When both rear seats are raised, the boot capacity is reduced, but it still offers a substantial 180 litres of space.

One of Peugeot’s key priorities is to retain its environmental leadership over the coming years. In this respect, the HR1 Concept, which is most at home in the city, needed to meet this brief by being particularly efficient and innovative.

The HR1, therefore, incorporates Peugeot’s innovative HYbrid4 technology with all its associated benefits. With an internal combustion engine at the front and an electric motor at the rear it can be driven as often as possible in “zero emissions” mode in town at low speed, or with both “engines” together, providing four-wheel drive capability where challenging surfaces warrant it.

Under the bonnet, the internal combustion engine which drives the front wheels is a new three cylinder petrol unit. It has a capacity of 1.2 litres and, using Peugeot’s THP technology, produces 110 bhp. It is one of the members of the future family of three cylinder engines currently under development. As part of Peugeot’s downsizing strategy, the engine has been developed using the most advanced technologies, combining both a high level of performance with environmental efficiency.

It is linked to a 37 bhp electric motor and, therefore, has a maximum potential power output of 147 bhp, with a combined fuel consumption of 81 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 80 g/km.

The electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox (with control paddles on the steering wheel and a centrally mounted gear lever) coupled with this power train is designed to offer maximum control. The driver can also opt between two modes of operation, sequential or automatic.

The HR1 has a pseudo McPherson front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension.Steering is provided by an electric power steering system which offers excellent handling characteristics at low speed, astonishing agility during manoeuvres and maximum accuracy at higher speeds, for good all-round performance.

With its high-performance suspension, efficient steering and new power train, the HR1 provides a unique driving experience, combining the emotion of real driving enjoyment with the rigour of genuine environmental efficiency.

Due for UK launch in the spring of 2011, the new Peugeot 508 will be available in two complementary body styles: a Saloon with a length of 4.79 m and an SW 4.81 m.

In-car enjoyment at a very high level

The simple and elegant style of the fascia, the materials chosen, the meticulous finish, the durability and the technologies deployed (colour “head-up display”, four-zone air conditioning, keyless entry and start-up) add to the exclusive ambience of the passenger compartment.

Environmental efficiency

Environmental efficiency was a pivotal concern from the very start of the project with initially, optimisation of the car’s aerodynamics.

Under the bonnet, the 508 benefits from engines offering a power output from 112 to 204 bhp. Each one is positioned particularly well in its category, both in respect of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but also in terms of performance and responsiveness.

The range, which begins with CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km with the new e-HDi (Stop&Start) system, will eventually include HYbrid4 technology with its potential of 200bhp, four-wheel drive and CO2 emissions from just 99 g/km. The most-powerful engine in the range is the new 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204bhp offering a level of performance worthy of a V6 diesel but with a carbon footprint reduced by more than 30%!

Efficient engines

Weight, aerodynamics and of course the PSA Group’s technological expertise and innovation in terms of both HDi FAP diesel, VTi and THP petrol engines, are factors which place the 508 among the leaders in its segment in every power category.

508 HDi FAP diesel range:

1.6 litre e-HDi FAP 112bhp, 285(1)Nm, EGC 6-speed(5); CO2: 109(2) g/km,

HDi technology: driveability and performance

The 508 ushers in the era of e-HDi technology for the Marque, with a new-generation Stop & Start& system. Rapid, efficient and silent, e-HDi combines reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (up to -15% in town) with maximum driveability. It is mated with the 1.6 litre HDi FAP engine coupled with the electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox so that a maximum number of customers can benefit from the lowest possible fuel consumption.

Available at the time of launch with a combined fuel economy of 53.4 mpg and emissions of only 114 g/km, this 1.6 litre e-HDi FAP 508 will fall to 109 g/km during 2011, with fuel economy of 56.0 mpg, due to the introduction of electronically-controlled air intakes.

New 2.2 litre HDi FAP 6-speed automatic gearbox: Powerful, lively and fuel efficient

A new 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204bhp engine, with a maximum torque of 450Nm from 2000rpm tops the 508 range in a ‘GT’ version, and features a special suspension set-up. Due to its technological sophistication but also due to the development of the 6-speed automatic gearbox, this power train develops a level of performance superior to the former 2.7 litre HDi V6 of the 407, with improved responsiveness and improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions: – down 33% to 150g/km, compared to 223g/km – a reduction of 73g/km!

<img src="http://motoring-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/230810-1-peu.jpg" alt="" title="Peugeot" width="350" height="229" align="left" size-full wp-image-4651" />By launching the world’s first diesel full hybrid vehicle – the 3008 HYbrid 4 – Peugeot will be writing a new chapter in motoring history. The combination of a fuel efficient 2.0 litre 163 bhp HDi diesel engine and a 37 bhp electric motor is the optimal combination for a hybrid vehicle. Unlike previous hybrid vehicles which have chosen to use a less fuel efficient petrol engine, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4’s diesel engine provides superior Combined Drive Cycle fuel consumption of 74.4mpg, and CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

The use of diesel hybrid technology also brings a range of other benefits:

High performance combined with excellent driveability

Freedom and simplicity of use with the possibility of choosing four different operating modes: ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle), Four-wheel drive, Auto and Sport

Silent operation, when driving in electric only mode

Peace of mind offered by the safety inherent in a four-wheel drive vehicle

Environmental friendliness with CO2 emissions from 99g/km

The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is designed to appeal to demanding, technophile customers who are in search of a rewarding and original vehicle.

In terms of performance, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 benefits from the combined power of the HDi diesel engine and electric motor during acceleration and when an immediate surge of power is required (the “boost” function). The maximum combined power output is 200 bhp, 163 bhp from the 2.0 litre HDi FAP diesel engine and 37 bhp from the electric motor. A maximum torque of 500 Nm is available, split with 300Nm at the front from the HDi diesel engine and 200 Nm at the rear generated by the electric motor.

To manage all the available performance a control selector mounted on the centre console enables the driver to choose between four different operating modes.

“Auto” mode: the entire system is automatically controlled, including operation of the HDi diesel engine and the electric motor. This provides optimal driving for fuel consumption and dynamic performance

“ZEV” mode (Zero Emission Vehicle) provides access to an extensive all-electric mode. Activation of the HDi diesel engine is programmed to coincide with only more sustained phases of acceleration. This requires the high-voltage batteries to be sufficiently charged and turns the vehicle into a “city run-around” par excellence due to the total absence of noise and emissions.

Four-wheel drive mode (4WD) instructs both power trains to operate together as far as possible; the rear wheels are driven by the electric motor and the front wheels by the HDi diesel engine. It offers peace of mind, safety, improved driveability and accentuates the vehicle’s dynamic character. At low speed it allows “all-terrain” capabilities equivalent to those of an SUV. The driver will, therefore, no longer be concerned by the prospect of a slippery track or a snowbound uphill drive to a ski resort

Sport” mode favours quicker gear changes at higher engine speeds than normal mode. In this mode, the notion of “controlled power” comes into its own, coupling the diesel engine with the electric motor provides more dynamic performance, optimally distributed and transmitted to the road by the four wheel drive for a level of stability and driveability that will appeal to motoring enthusiasts.

With the Peugeot 3008 equipped with HYbrid4 technology, the aim is to appeal to customers who expect both environmental-friendliness and technological sophistication, and also genuine driving enjoyment.

Indeed, as well as the social benefit of the steep reduction in fuel consumption, the level of performance provided by this technology will delight even the most demanding customers in terms of road holding, responsiveness, driveability, peace of mind regardless of road conditions and the possibility of enjoying silent operation in town in the all-electric mode.

HYbrid4 technology brings together Peugeot’s best technologies and experience: HDi diesel engines, electric vehicle knowledge, second-generation Stop & Start and electronically-controlled sequential manual gearboxes.

The “hybrid” power train simply combines an HDi diesel engine and an electric motor. With their exceptional efficiency, HDi diesel engines are thermodynamically more efficient than a petrol engine and offer a 30% reduction in fuel consumption. Clearly the HDi diesel engine is the best internal combustion engine choice.

For the “electric” component, Peugeot has historical expertise in the field of electric vehicles. To date, the 106 Electric, marketed between 1995 and 2003, remains the world’s best selling zero emissions car (in total nearly 10,000 vehicles were produced). At the end of 2010, Peugeot will become the first to launch a latest-generation 100% electric vehicle in Europe, the Peugeot i0n.

Pursuing the common sense approach of capitalising on the best existing components and expertise, it was only natural to use Peugeot’s electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox, not only for its engine management capabilities but also for its ability to optimise fuel consumption. To improve performance even further a second-generation STOP & START system is also used.

The choice of hybrid architecture was also guided by the search for optimal efficiency and consistency. Hybrid technology uses two power trains which can operate alternately or simultaneously:

The HDi diesel engine operates in its most optimal operating window on longer, out-of-town journeys. A diesel engine still remains the most efficient and versatile choice to power any vehicle

The electric motor takes over from the HDi diesel engine in phases of lower power demands, particularly when pulling away, driving at low speed and decelerating (for energy recovery). These are precisely the features that characterise urban driving

Changeover from the HDi diesel engine to the electric motor occurs automatically, due to a STOP & START system which places the HDi diesel engine in standby and restarts it as and when conditions require (the operation of the accelerator pedal, low battery charge level, etc…).

The two power sources also complement each other in certain driving conditions (“boost” effect during hard acceleration, or when overtaking another vehicle, for example). The performance of the HYbrid4 is therefore directly comparable to that obtained with a single HDi diesel engine of a much higher capacity, with good levels of responsiveness backed by a real breakthrough in terms of reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (around 35 % less in the combined cycle for equivalent performance).

The electric motor and its ancillary equipment (inverter, converter, etc) are fitted at the rear of the vehicle. This provides a number of advantages not only in terms of customer benefits and it also helps reduce costs and optimise the production process.

The original layout of the Hybrid4 system allows for the possibility of four-wheel drive. The HDi diesel engine drives the front wheels, while the electric motor (in the rear drive train) drives the rear wheels.

Everything is controlled electronically (“by wire”) and there are no mechanical links between the front and the rear drivetrains. This gives the system many advantages over a “traditional” mechanical system.

No structural constraints affecting the layout and design within the passenger compartment

4×4 and environmental-friendliness are no longer contradicting terms

The installation at the rear, of all the vehicle’s “electrical components”, has further technical and economic benefits.

Firstly, it avoids the need for any major redesign of the vehicle’s engine compartment, while also improving weight distribution. It also leaves intact the possibility of using a range of different capacity engines, for possible future introduction.

Secondly, this architecture is achieved by means of the use of a simple and compact rear module containing the electric motor, its ancillary equipment and also the rear drive train and suspension.

The costs of the rear module are, therefore, reduced because of the technical possibility of deploying the same HYbrid4 technology into different market segments, in different body shapes, etc…, regardless of the type of internal combustion engine used.

A real breakthrough in terms of reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while improving dynamic performance levels, providing four-wheel drive and an electric only mode, HYbrid4 technology brings a number of benefits without compromises.

Furthermore, the driveability, safety and eco-efficiency of the system are based on simple, reasonable and consistent technological choices.

The Peugeot 3008 Crossover was chosen as the first application of this innovative technology.

The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 – In Detail

2.0 litre HDi FAP 163 bhp diesel engine

With a capacity of 1997 cm³, this Euro 5 engine develops a maximum power of 163 bhp at 3750 rpm and a maximum torque of 300Nm at 1580 rpm. To obtain this level of performance it uses Peugeot’s latest generation ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System) combustion chamber design, a variable-geometry low-inertia turbocharger, a high-pressure injection pump allowing a maximum pressure of 2000 bar and solenoid injectors with eight apertures.

Naturally this is combined with the latest generation “octosquare” Eolys additive-enhanced diesel particulate emission filter (FAP) system.

Electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox (BMP6)

The HDi diesel engine is mated to an electronically-controlled manual six-speed sequential gearbox:

In automatic mode its electronic control helps provide significant savings in fuel consumption, compared to a traditional automatic gearbox or even a traditional manual gearbox

It offers real driving satisfaction derived from the possibility of choosing the gear change mode at any time – manual or automatic – with either the gear lever or via controls behind the steering wheel

The gear change quality of the gearbox has been enhanced with HYbrid4 technology, as the rear electric motor is activated during gear changes to improve the smoothness of the operation, and sustains drive in between gear changes.

Latest-generation STOP & START system

This system places the HDi diesel engine in standby when the vehicle is at a standstill (at traffic lights, a stop sign or in a traffic jam, etc) and when the vehicle is being driven in electric-only mode. It significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions in urban driving conditions while also enabling.the HDi diesel engine to be restarted instantly and smoothly, when required.

The “high voltage” STOP & START system has a maximum output of 8 kW and can generate enough energy to supply the power requirements for the rear electric motor if required (four-wheel drive mode).

Rear suspension

To ensure a dynamic performance on a par with Peugeot’s reputable road holding standards, the rear electric module also includes a multi-arm rear suspension within which are housed the electric motor and the reduction gearbox.

ESP

The ESP system fitted to the 3008 HYbrid4 incorporates an “improved traction control system” (ASR) able to exploit the car’s four-wheel drive capabilities to the full on challenging surfaces. The performance of the system can be enhanced by the fitment of optional 16’’ ‘Mud & Snow’ tyres.

Electric motor

The synchronous permanent magnet electric motor is located at the rear of the vehicle. It provides a constant 27 bhp, with a peak output of 37 bhp. It generates a constant torque of 100 Nm, or a peak of 200 Nm when necessary.

PTMU (Power Train Management Unit)

The PTMU is the electronic control unit that automatically manages the different operating modes of the HDi diesel engine and the electric motor, programmed to optimise fuel consumption.

An inverter and a converter are used to control the electric power. The inverter controls the torque of the electric motor by regulating the electrical current supplied from the high-voltage battery pack. It operates in a voltage range of between 150 and 270 volts. The converter reduces the 200 volts from the high-voltage battery pack into 12 volts to supply the vehicle’s onboard systems.

On the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 all these components have been made as compact as possible to optimise the installation and weight effect in the vehicle.

High-voltage battery pack

The Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries are located under the boot floor, near the electric motor. The high-voltage battery pack is in addition to the standard 12V battery under the bonnet, which carries on performing its normal duties.

In the medium term, this battery technology remains the most appropriate in terms of cost and industrialisation for vehicles produced in large volumes.

Energy recovery

An energy recovery system (the electric motor becomes a generator) enables the kinetic energy created by the vehicle to be transformed into electrical energy to recharge the Ni-MH batteries during deceleration (release of the accelerator pedal and during braking). This recovery system enables the driver to re-deploy the “free” (Kinetic) energy to reduce fuel consumption accordingly.

Man-machine interface

A 7’’ 16/9 colour screen or a multi-function display, according to the car’s specification, informs the driver in real time of the operating status of the hybrid power train. It also shows, for a given journey, operating times in different modes and the status of the battery charge.

On the instrument panel the left-hand dial indicates the percentage of power used or recovered during phases of braking or deceleration. Different scales indicate the battery status: Charge, Eco (optimal operating range), Power, Boost (maximum use jointly with the HDi diesel engine).

Suppliers

To develop its HYbrid4 technology, the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group has teamed up with suppliers offering the best expertise in each field. Based on the manufacturer’s technical specifications, BOSCH has provided its expertise with respect to the electric motor, the power electronics, the reversible high-voltage alternator / generator and other systems managing the dialogue between these components, the braking and trajectory correction systems (ABS and ESP). Similarly, SANYO has provided its extensive knowledge in the field of Ni-MH high-voltage batteries.

A distinctive design

The new Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 is distinguished by its cutting-edge technology, combining responsible driving and driving enjoyment, but also by its specific styling.

At the front, Peugeot’s latest design cues have been adapted to match the 3008’s generous dimensions and to mark a break with existing models. The headlamps now have an integral bar of LEDs providing a daytime lighting function and accentuate the 3008’s appearance. The 3008 HYbrid4 also proudly wears the Marque’s new Lion badge on its bonnet.

At the rear, the rear spoiler has a two-tone finish with a high gloss black section, helping to differentiate it from the other 3008 models in the range, as do the chrome badges which decorate the sides and rear of the car.

Interior

Inside its roomy architecture, the driving position bears all the hallmarks of a top-of-the-range vehicle, or even that of an aircraft cockpit. An expansive fascia panel, controls within easy hand’s reach and an ergonomic centre console clearly separate the territory of the “pilot”. Combined with a raised and dominating driving position it has everything in place to reward its drivers and offer a range of new driving experiences not previously found in a conventional hybrid vehicle.

Distinctive materials are deployed throughout to accentuate the Crossover feel and explore new avenues of expression. This is true in particular of the new and specific Guérande & Tramontane two-tone leather finish which subtly combines bright pale grey on the seat cushions with a black finish on the sides of the seats.

The gear lever with its modern and elegant design is a key feature of the HYbrid4 technology. It enhances the technological ambience in the same way as the 7’’ colour display which provides information on the flow of energy. A specific steering wheel bearing the signature HYbrid4 adds a touch of exclusivity to the car.

“Multiflex” interior

Due to its intelligent “Multiflex” interior and clever integration of the batteries and the innovative rear suspension, the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 can also be transformed to offer a considerable load capacity under the parcel shelf of 420 litres (362 dm3 VDA), with 66 litres (29 dm3 VDA) available under the boot floor.

The split lower tailgate opens to reveal a boot with a flat floor equipped with longitudinal securing rings that exude quality and strength. From the boot, a rear seat folding system, controlled by switches mounted on the load area side trims, allow the seats in the second row to be folded automatically, ‘as if by magic’.

Combined with the folding front passenger seat, the 3008 HYbrid4 offers a perfectly flat floor from the tailgate to the fascia panel. This frees up a gigantic 1501 litre compartment that is easy to load.

Driving aids:

Comfortably seated behind the steering wheel, drivers will note among the equipment at their disposal certain references to the world of aviation.

For example, to ensure that the driver never needs to take an eye off the road ahead, and as in a jet aircraft, essential driving information is projected onto a retractable transparent panel which cleverly extends from the instrument panel. The Head-Up Display system can be adjusted by means of toggle switches.

These switches, located above the centre console, add a further touch of style to the in-car ambience. They also control another original item of equipment – the Distance Alert system. As its name implies, this function helps the driver to keep aware of the safe distance from the vehicle in front, according to the 3008’s speed.

Another item of equipment that helps to ensure maximum driving convenience is the Parallel Park Assist (PPA). This system assesses the size of a space during parking manoeuvres and determines the possibility of parking in it.

Similarly, the electric handbrake coupled with the Hill Assist function, helps the driver during manoeuvres but also optimises the interior space within the vehicle.

Finally, a latest-generation satellite navigation system helps to guide users on their travels.

The Peugeot Connect 3-D Media Navigation (NG4) includes all the benefits of the Marque’s existing satellite navigation systems. These include a juke-box function, linked to a hard disc, Peugeot Connect services, GSM function, a USB connector, a DVD player, a Bluetooth® system and a display which shows specific buildings in full 3D.

The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 is a Crossover with an exceptional technological content offering unique versatility and safety, unrivalled driving enjoyment and CO2 emissions of a very low level. Peugeot’s choice of the diesel hybrid demonstrates that it is possible to combine uncompromising environmental demands with driving experiences not previously available in a hybrid vehicle.

The 3008 HYbrid4 will be produced in France (in Sochaux and Mulhouse) and marketed in the spring of 2011 in Europe.

The introduction of this new model will see a more powerful HDi diesel engine join the range. The new engine, which meets the current Euro 5 emission standards, is a major development of the old 2.0 litre 136 bhp “DW10B” HDi diesel engine featured in other Peugeot models.

The cylinder head, internal engine components, intake, exhaust and timing have all been extensively redesigned. To obtain the increase in performance, the engine benefits from the use of Peugeot’s latest generation combustion chamber design known as ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System), a low inertia variable geometry turbocharger, a high pressure injection pump with an operating pressure raised to 2000 bars and solenoid injectors with eight individual apertures.

With a capacity of 1997 cm3, it delivers its maximum power of 163 bhp at 3,750 rpm and produces a maximum torque of 340 Nm from an engine speed of 2,000 rpm. This engine provides the 3008 with particularly low fuel consumption and, therefore, CO2 emissions compared to its competitors.

The HDi 163 is only available with a six-speed automatic gearbox. This gearbox has been developed to reduce the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2emissions and also benefits from a very efficient torque converter and significant reductions in internal friction losses. Particular attention has also been paid to the quality and speed of the gear changes in terms of the smoothness of the gear changes, the gear change settings and responsiveness.

The chosen gearbox gear ratios ensure good responsiveness when pulling away, excellent continuity when accelerating thanks to the smoothness of the gear changes, and an all-round ease of use linked to optimisation of the engine’s torque range, which is particularly generous in this respect. The gearbox management control system of all six gears optimises fuel consumption as the user is able to drive more often at low engine speeds, while the high ratio sixth gear reduces fuel consumption and engine noise levels on motorways.

Two driving modes are possible: automatic – for quiet, stress-free driving which adapts to the user’s driving style – and a more active mode, thanks to the sequential selection control.

The 3008 HDi 163 automatic also benefits from the standard fitment of Peugeot’s Dynamic Roll Control. This system, built into the rear suspension, not only enhances driving enjoyment, but also preserves ride comfort on a day-to-day basis, thanks to the excellent damping control of any road irregularities.

Standard specification consists of: 17” alloy wheels with energy saver tyres, rear parking aid, cruise control with speed limiter, radio / CD player with MP3 playback, lighting pack with boot net, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, full body coloured exterior, dynamic roll control, leather steering wheel, front fog lights, electric front/rear windows, air-conditioning, multi-flex interior (row two flat folding seats, three position boot load area floor and split tailgate), automatic electric parking brake with hill assist, electronic stability programme (ESP), six airbags, ABS with EBFD and emergency brake assist, two isofix seat mountings, remote central locking…

The Exclusive version adds the following standard specification – Cielo panoramic glass roof, visibility pack (automatic headlights and wipers), head up display, distance alert, rear side window sun blinds, tyre pressure sensors, alarm (Thatcham category 1 approved), exterior pack (chrome front & rear bumpers and side rubbing strips), family pack (additional storage in rear foot lockers), dual zone digital air-conditioning with air quality sensor (AQS) and climate control….

The Peugeot 207 hatchback and SW now have extra “six appeal” with the introduction of a new 6-Speed manual gearbox and a new Euro 5 HDi diesel engine.

The 207 Sport HDi 110 hatchback and SW Sport and Outdoor HDi 110 models are now replaced by new versions fitted with a new 6-speed manual gearbox and a more powerful HDi 112 bhp diesel engine.

This new 1.6 litre HDi 112 FAP diesel engine meets the requirements of the Euro 5 emission standards and benefits from a number of improvements over the current 110 bhp unit. These include increased performance in terms of driveability and responsiveness, as well as quieter operation, while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions.

Thanks to its new hi-tech design, this new four cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,560 cm3 and eight valves, has a maximum torque output of 270 Nm at 1,750 rpm, an increase of 12.5% over the current engine and, during overboost, 285 compared to 260 Nm. It also has a very wide operating range with high levels of torque available at all times, ensuring good driveability and reduced fuel consumption on a day to day basis (since the user can drive more often at lower engine speeds): 135 Nm from 1000 rpm, 242 at 1500 rpm, 270 from 1750 to 2000 and 224 Nm at 3500 rpm. Its maximum power output is 112 bhp at 3600 rpm.

New-generation technology

A number of technical developments derived from the extensive know-how of Peugeot’s engineers in terms of HDi FAP diesel engines have made it possible to achieve these improvements. Between this new 1.6 litre HDi and its predecessor, more than 50 % of the parts have been entirely redesigned.

The engine uses Peugeot’s Extreme Combustion Chamber System (ECCS) technology and a new Continental Automotive System common rail injection where the injection pressure is increased to 1,650 bars (compared to 1600 previously) as well as new piezo-electric injectors with seven apertures (instead of solenoid injectors with six apertures as fitted to the previous 1.6 litre HDi diesel engine).

The engine management software has also been entirely redesigned to give this unit more comprehensive injection mapping (up to 5 injections per cycle), improved efficiency and better diagnostics for after-sales service. This helps to improve the homogeneity of the air/diesel fuel mixture for maximum performance, quieter combustion and a reduction of emissions at source.

The engine also uses a Honeywell Turbo Technology variable-geometry turbocharger, optimised in terms of its size. Being smaller, it has a lower inertia, reducing response times to a minimum. An improved exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR valve) and the reduction of internal friction losses allows maximum enhancement of engine efficiency while minimising potential energy losses. Like its predecessor, this 1.6 litre HDi comes as standard with a diesel particulate emission filter (FAP) with a service life of 112,000 miles.

Peugeot 207 Sport models also benefit from improvements to the standard specification with the fitment of dark tinted rear windows and rear electric windows on the five-door hatchback and SW versions.

<img src="http://motoring-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/150210-b-peu+-e1266273123319.jpg" alt="" title="150210-b-peu+" width="350" height="191" align="left" size-full wp-image-2920" />The “5 by Peugeot” concept car is another indication of the changing face of Peugeot and provides an insight into the Marque’s future ambitions in the large luxury vehicle segment. Its pure and elegant lines blend with subtle technical detailing to create an overall effect of a timeless, exclusive and modern design.

Powered by Peugeot’s HYbrid4 technology, it ensures both high levels of driving enjoyment and environmental protection – 200 bhp, four-wheel drive and CO2 emissions of 99 g/km or zero in electric mode.

Bold expressive design
Its dimensions, proportions and styling are a direct response to the changing trends in the large luxury saloon car market segment. It reflects the continual search for more status, quality and performance, combined with a modernity that encompasses the vehicle’s general efficiency in terms of architecture, engines and styling.

“5 BY PEUGEOT” expresses the Marque’s vision and experience in the large touring car market. This concept car is designed and built to have both elegance and precision, but without in any way sacrificing the personality and dynamism so beloved of the Peugeot Marque. The emotion aroused by its exterior design holds the promise of exceptional interior space, convenience and comfort.

A modern, prestigious and timeless styling
The contours of the exterior body flow smoothly, unruffled and without interruption or embellishment from the end of the bonnet to the top of the boot lid. All surfaces are perfectly aligned, with clearances between each element precisely determined to obtain a quality of assembly rivalling that of a goldsmith. The overall effect it creates is that of a vehicle that has been hewn from a solid block of material.

At the front, the interpretation of the Marque’s traditional feline appearance is spectacular; “LED” lights are highlighted by the use of illuminated surrounds that blend perfectly with the overall exterior body styling. The headlamps frame a unique front grille design, whose visual appearance is closely influenced by the Peugeot SR1 concept car. The innovative design of the front grille gives the impression that it is detached from the vehicle; it appears to be suspended in front of the car. The new revised Lion badge naturally takes pride of place in a specially shaped area at the front of the long aluminium bonnet.

The streamlined sides of the car are enhanced further by the bevelled, brushed-aluminium window surrounds and door handles, combined with sculpted 19’’ wheel trims. The rear design of the vehicle suggests both robustness and power. The bold design of rear lights, consisting of three separate linked light clusters, clearly distinguish the vehicle at night, but also provides a link back to some of the Marque’s historic models.

A new driving experience
The elegance, precision and dynamic appearance of the car’s exterior styling is also reflected in the car’s technical specification. The “5 BY PEUGEOT” concept incorporates Peugeot’s HYbrid4 technology which, will be launched in 2011 in the Peugeot 3008.

A 2.0 litre HDi FAP163 bhp diesel engine, mounted at the front of the vehicle, is combined with a 37 bhp electric motor at the rear. This arrangement provides an overall maximum power of 200 bhp, an electric only mode for low speed operation, four-wheel drive when required, and low fuel consumption and emissions of 74.3 mpg and 99 g/km of CO2 or zero in electric mode.

Positioned as the flagship of the 308 CC petrol range the new 308 CC THP 156 automatic sees the introduction of a new “AT6” 6-speed automatic gearbox, further strengthening the vehicle’s image as a distinctive and dynamic vehicle.

The new “AT6” automatic gearbox has been developed by “Aisin AW” to specifications defined by the PSA Peugeot Citroën group. Close in engineering terms to the “AM6” (fitted to the group’s most powerful HDi diesel engines – V6 HDi, 2.2 litre and 2.0 litre HDi), this new gearbox is designed to withstand a maximum torque of 300 Nm (450 Nm for the AM6).

Lighter and even more compact than the AM6, the AT6 has been designed to reduce the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, (around 7% less than the previous model). It also benefits from a more efficient torque converter and a significant reduction in internal friction losses.

Particular attention has also been paid to the quality and speed of the gear changes in terms of smoothness, synchronisation and responsiveness.

The chosen gearbox gear ratios ensure good responsiveness when pulling away, excellent continuity when accelerating thanks to the smoothness of the gear changes and an all-round ease of use linked to optimisation of the engine’s torque range, which is particularly generous in this respect. The gearbox control system management of all the six gears optimises fuel consumption as the user is able to drive more often at low engine speeds, while the high ratio sixth gear optimises fuel consumption and engine noise levels on motorways.

Two driving modes are possible: automatic, for quiet, stress-free driving which adapts to the user’s driving style, and a more active mode thanks to the sequential selection control.

This new automatic model will be available in SE and GT trim levels, unlike the current THP 140 automatic model which was only available in SE trim level.

Peugeot UK’s Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle will fly to Sao Paulo next month for the Rally Curitibia Brazil, the next round of the IRC Series, after an eventful 2010 Monte Carlo Rally.

At one stage, the reigning Intercontinental Rally Challenge Champions looked to be ready to take the lead, probably the most challenging of all asphalt rallies. They went into Day Two of the event, ready to do battle with Ford’s WRC stars Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen.

Problems developed on Stage 5. Their Peugeot 207 S2000 touched hidden black ice on the approach to a bridge. The car slid slightly wide and went down an embankment. The car could not be recovered. Meeke and Nagle stood on the approach to the corner, sportingly warning fellow competitors to slow down.

Meeke insisted the fault was all his, but there were no recriminations from team chief Marc Van Dalen. “These things happen. We are a team. We win together, we lose together, and we will go to Brazil to win once more” he told iRally. “I have complete confidence in Kris and Paul”.

Tyre choice is always crucial in the Monte Carlo Rally, but in this instance, the car would have slid off whatever tyre combination was fitted.

There was a certain sense of déjà vu about the incident. A similar “off” happened in last year’s Monte Carlo, but Meeke and Nagle then went on to win the IRC Drivers Championship, and helped Peugeot retain their manufacturers’ title. Van Dalen says the same can happen this year, and head of Peugeot Sport Olivier Quesnel, speaking to Rally Radio in Monte Carlo, warmly praised Meeke’s ability.

The final night of the rally saw an exciting battle on the legendary Col de Turini stages between Mikko Hirvonen and Sébastien Ogier. Hirvonen the overnight leader defied the pundits by holding the Frenchman at bay on SS12 and13. Ogier eventually retired ahead of the final 2 stages with a broken alternator drive shaft, gifting a very comfortable victory to Hirvonen.

The Intercontinental Rally Challenge takes participating drivers to some of the most exciting and evocative rallies of the world. Peugeot has won the Manufacturers’ Championship every year for the last three years.

Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle’s campaign is backed by Peugeot UK, who use the IRC to showcase the rally version of their popular 207, the S2000. This is a full-blown 2-litre 4-wheel drive rally car, capable of competing on asphalt, gravel, snow and ice.

You can follow Kris & Paul’s campaign on www.peugeot.co.uk/rally and www.twitter.com/Peugeotrally. Every night during each event, acclaimed filmmakers Crown House Media produce vidcasts from the series, which can be viewed on the peugeot.co.uk website, on YouTube and key motorsport websites. During events, fans can tune in through the Internet to listen live to Rally Radio from the IRC, supported by Peugeot UK. Peugeot UK also supports iRally, the leading rally App for the iPhone, featuring timings, text commentaries, standings, calendars, driver and co-driver biographies, images, videos, audio podcasts and direct links to Rally Radio and World Rally Radio.

Following in the footsteps of those early pioneering motoring journeys, the Peugeot Eco Cup will follow a 1000 kilometre course from Paris to Geneva, with the winners being those arriving at the finish within set time targets having used the least fuel.

Entry to the Peugeot Eco Cup is open to any qualified driver. Would-be competitors can sign up at the dedicated website http://ecocup.peugeot.com which can also be found via www.peugeot.co.uk by 15 February 2010.

The website features a range of eco-driving tips, an online eco-driving test and details of the four different Peugeot cars available for the event. Applicants select the car category they prefer to compete in, enter their details and submit a 140 word description of what makes a good eco driver.

Peugeot will select 72 competitors from the online entries and then randomly draw entrants to be invited to take the challenge, with four each representing the 18 European countries (and accompanied by a team-mate of their choice), to compete in four different Peugeot cars: 207 HDi 90, 308 HDi 110, 3008 HDi 110 and 5008 HDi 110. Each car is a diesel powered practical family vehicle recognised for its excellent fuel economy and low carbon emissions.

With strict equivalent weights for each model used, the 72 vehicles will all set off from Paris on Sunday, 28th February 2010 towards Geneva via a compulsory 1,000 kilometre route to be covered within the 30-36 hour permitted period.

For each model, the candidate having consumed the least fuel at the end of the course will win a new Peugeot car. Winners will be announced and the keys to the vehicles will be handed over on Tuesday 2nd March 2010 on the Peugeot stand at the Geneva Motor Show.

Family, friends and eco-driving fans will be able to follow the teams’ progress on a dedicated Facebook page (search for Peugeot Eco Cup), where they will also be able to contribute messages of encouragement, tips and suggestions.

Jon Goodman, MD of Peugeot UK said “This first Peugeot Eco Cup is a truly exciting challenge in the mould of those first great motoring adventures, and uses the expertise from one of Europe’s leaders in terms of environmental vehicles. We are seeking the best of the best in eco-driving, taking everyday but highly fuel-efficient Peugeot cars over a testing route to see just how far they can stretch their fuel capability. Will anyone make the finish on one tank? We’ll have to see.”

It also benefits from a number of improvements over the current 110 bhp unit with improved performance in terms of flexibility and responsiveness, as well as noise reduction, while at the same time reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Thanks to its new hi-tech design, this new four cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,560 cm3, and eight valves, has a maximum torque output of 270 Nm at 1,750 rpm, an increase of 12.5% over the current engine, and during overboost, 285 compared to 260 Nm.

A number of technical developments derived from the extensive know-how of Peugeot’s engineers in terms of HDi FAP diesel engines, have made it possible to achieve these improvements. Between this new 1.6 litre HDi and its predecessor, more than 50 % of the parts have been entirely redesigned.

For example, like the new V6 3.0 litre HDi and 2.0 litre HDi diesel engines that were launched this year, Extreme Combustion Chamber System (ECCS) technology is much to the fore.

This state-of-the-art combustion chamber design offers:

a lower compression ratio (16.0 compared to 17.5 previously) for enhanced performance and reduced emissions (including NOx).
an increase in the diameter of the combustion chamber (+10%), helping to reduce the quantity of unburnt fuel as a result of less contact with the chamber “walls”.
a reduction of the SWIRL (air movement in the combustion chamber) of nearly 10%, thereby reducing heat loss against the walls.
This technology is combined with a new common rail injection system (Continental Automotive System) where the injection pressure is increased to 1,650 bars (compared to1600 previously) as well as new piezo-electric injectors with seven apertures (instead of solenoid injectors with six apertures as fitted to the previous 1.6 litre HDi diesel engine).

The engine management software has also been entirely redesigned to give this unit more comprehensive injection mapping (up to 5 injections per cycle), improved efficiency and better diagnostics for after-sales service. This helps to improve the homogeneity of the air/diesel fuel mixture for maximum performance, reduced fuel consumption, a reduction of emissions at source and quieter combustion.

The engine also uses a Honeywell Turbo Technology variable-geometry turbocharger optimised in terms of its size.

This new engine will be available in the 308 CC in both Sport and SE trim levels and will be known as the HDi 112.

The 2010 Monte Carlo rally is the first round of this year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and is perhaps the most famous rally there is, whether you are an ardent rally fan or just a motoring enthusiast.

This year is the seventy eighth running of the Monte Carlo rally which starts on Tuesday 19 January, with a single super special stage and finishes in Monte Carlo in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Last year, Peugeot dominated the rally by occupying all three top positions with its Peugeot 207 S2000, based on its road-going 207 hatchback. This year, however, the competition will be even fiercer with a total of eight manufacturers contesting the 2010 IRC – Peugeot, Ford, Fiat Abarth, Honda, Skoda, Subaru, Proton and Ralliart (Mitsubishi). It is a result of the strong support from the many different manufacturers and the extensive TV coverage provided by Eurosport that the IRC is now the chosen rally series of the Monte Carlo Rally organisers, instead of the World Rally Championship.

This year will also see Britain’s top two rally drivers go head to head over the 405 kms of the 15 special stages. Kris Meeke, 2009 IRC Drivers’ Champion, driving his Peugeot UK supported Peugeot 207 S2000 will take on Skoda UK supported Guy Wilks, twice British Rally champion in his Skoda Fabia S2000. It was seven years ago that two top British drivers were last battling on the Monte Carlo rally and their names were Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

Kris partnered again by co-driver Paul Nagle will start the rally as favourite after he dominated the IRC last year, winning four rounds on his way to winning the Drivers’ Championship and helping Peugeot secure its third consecutive Manufacturers’ title.

Unprecedented TV coverage provided by Eurosport will see all but one of the special stages screened live, enabling fans to see all the action, as it happens. Four live stages on Wednesday, six on Thursday and four on Friday can be found on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.

Fifteen special stages, 405 kms, snow and ice covered roads mixed with normal tarmac and three days of competitive rallying lie in front of the eventual winner of this year’s Monte Carlo Rally.

This year, after a full season in the IRC, Kris and Paul will be one of the favourites to win the rally and having tested extensively in snow and ice conditions, they cannot wait to get started!

Follow the day to day progress of Peugeot UK and Kris Meeke in this year’s Monte Carlo rally via the team’s Twitter link www.twitter.com/PeugeotNews, web-based rally radio hosted on the Peugeot.co.uk web site and all main rally web sites and for, iphone users, the Peugeot irally App .

Standing alone without its blue flag, the new Lion represents a confidence founded on a range of new products set to reinforce Peugeot’s position as a leading global vehicle manufacturer.

Today, PEUGEOT vehicles are distributed in more than 160 countries through 10,000 sales outlets and are instantly recognised by their unique Lion emblem. It was, however, on 20 November 1858 that Emile PEUGEOT first registered this iconic trade mark. Now in 2010 the Peugeot Lion evolves further with a new look.

It was in 1810 that Jean-Pierre and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot turned their father’s cereal mill into a steel foundry and took the Peugeot family into the industrial era.

Now 200 years later, a new chapter in the Peugeot story is about to open with a further evolution of the brand; a new styling direction, a new corporate Lion badge and a new signature – Peugeot MOTION & EMOTION.

The look of individual products is the visual face of the brand in the eyes of its current and prospective customers. To enable Peugeot to evolve and adapt to future challenges, Peugeot’s current styling direction will change into a new look, typified by the new Peugeot SR1 concept car. This dream car embodies a new stronger, more extreme and pure expression of the Peugeot Style of tomorrow and also displays a new look corporate Lion badge.

The SR1 concept car also blends styles in terms of its technical characteristics. For example, it incorporates HYbrid4 technology, which will be available in the Peugeot 3008 from 2011. On the SR1, at the front, a 1.6 litre THP petrol engine with a power output of 218 bhp is combined with a rear electric motor developing 95 bhp. In electric only mode, the car becomes a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV), with a combined cycle fuel consumption of 57.7 mpg or 119 g/km of CO2.

When the two power trains operate simultaneously, the SR1 develops a potential maximum power output of 313 bhp, while benefiting also from four-wheel drive.

With the use of HYbrid4 technology, which will eventually be available on different models in the Peugeot range, the SR1 concept offers convincing proof that driving enjoyment can be combined with environmental friendliness.

The vehicle’s dynamic efficiency is enhanced by a rigid, lightweight structure comprising of a one-piece body incorporating a tubular chassis onto which are mounted the mechanical components and suspension.

Exploiting the best of existing technology to offer road holding worthy of this exceptional concept, the suspension consists of double wishbones with drop links at the front and the rear. For even greater driving precision, the SR1 innovates also through the adoption of four-wheel steering. Motorised links on the rear suspension wishbones control the turning angle of the rear wheels as a function of vehicle speed, giving the vehicle superb agility under all circumstances.

The Peugeot SR1 concept car will be unveiled to the general public at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, in March.

The Lion symbol, which has been associated with Peugeot products since 1858, is evolving too. Created by Peugeot’s own designers, the Lion badge is a focal point on every vehicle. The new Lion is now simpler in design, more dynamic, with a new posture and fluidity. It has a new bi-metallic look through the use of both matt and polished finishes.

Three-dimensional in design for greater modernity it discards the current blue flag background for a stronger effect. The current Peugeot blue colour also becomes darker and is now combined into the new font used to create the Marque’s name.

The first production vehicle to display this new Lion will be the stunning Peugeot RCZ launched in the Spring.

To reduce its ecological footprint and dependency on fossil fuels, Peugeot has been actively investing in a range of new technologies to meet the needs of future mobility, without sacrificing driving enjoyment.

Today, Peugeot continues to improve engine efficiency through its downsizing strategy for both petrol and HDi FAP diesel engines. Alongside this; the Marque is also currently developing a new three cylinder petrol engine.
