The Peugeot 508 introduces the Marque’s new design look which has evolved from the stylistic codes first unveiled on the SR1 Concept Car.

Combining both a stylish and strong design with cutting-edge technology; quality, purity and efficiency have been the watchwords that have guided the Peugeot designers and engineers during the creation of the 508.

The Peugeot 508 will be powered by a range of engines all well positioned in their categories in terms of performance and driveability, but also fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.  All engines will benefit from the latest engine technology including Peugeot’s new e-HDi stop and start system. This is the first of the new generation of stop and start systems which offers improved driveability and economy enhancements of up to 15%.

After launch, Peugeot’s HYbrid4 technology will become available on the 508 and will provide 200bhp performance with all-wheel drive and emissions of 99g/km of CO₂ or zero in electric mode.

The Peugeot 508 will be available in two body styles: a Saloon (with a length of 4.79 m) and a SW (4.81 m).  Both models will be revealed to the public in October at the Paris Motor Show, and will go on sale at the beginning of 2011.

Utilising the PSA Group’s platform 3, the 508 will be produced in Rennes in France, for the European market and in 2011 in China, for the Chinese market.

The Peugeot 3008 range will expand in June with the introduction of the 3008 HDi 163 FAP Automatic version which will be available in two trim levels, Sport and Exclusive.

The introduction of this new model will see a more powerful HDi diesel engine join the range. The new engine, which meets the current Euro 5 emission standards, is a major development of the old 2.0 litre 136 bhp “DW10B” HDi diesel engine featured in other Peugeot models.

The cylinder head, internal engine components, intake, exhaust and timing have all been extensively redesigned. To obtain the increase in performance, the engine benefits from the use of Peugeot’s latest generation combustion chamber design known as ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System), a low inertia variable geometry turbocharger, a high pressure injection pump with an operating pressure raised to 2000 bars and solenoid injectors with eight individual apertures.

With a capacity of 1997 cm³, it delivers its maximum power of 163 bhp at 3,750 rpm and produces a maximum torque of 340 Nm from an engine speed of 2,000 rpm. This engine provides the 3008 with particularly low fuel consumption and, therefore, CO₂ emissions compared to its competitors.

The HDi 163 is only available with a six-speed automatic gearbox. This gearbox has been developed to reduce the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO₂emissions and also benefits from a very efficient torque converter and significant reductions in internal friction losses. Particular attention has also been paid to the quality and speed of the gear changes in terms of the smoothness of the gear changes, the gear change settings and responsiveness.

The chosen gearbox gear ratios ensure good responsiveness when pulling away, excellent continuity when accelerating thanks to the smoothness of the gear changes, and an all-round ease of use linked to optimisation of the engine’s torque range, which is particularly generous in this respect. The gearbox management control system of all six gears optimises fuel consumption as the user is able to drive more often at low engine speeds, while the high ratio sixth gear reduces fuel consumption and engine noise levels on motorways.

Two driving modes are possible: automatic – for quiet, stress-free driving which adapts to the user’s driving style – and a more active mode, thanks to the sequential selection control.

The 3008 HDi 163 automatic also benefits from the standard fitment of Peugeot’s Dynamic Roll Control. This system, built into the rear suspension, not only enhances driving enjoyment, but also preserves ride comfort on a day-to-day basis, thanks to the excellent damping control of any road irregularities.

Standard specification consists of: 17” alloy wheels with energy saver tyres, rear parking aid, cruise control with speed limiter, radio / CD player with MP3 playback, lighting pack with boot net, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, full body coloured exterior, dynamic roll control, leather steering wheel, front fog lights, electric front/rear windows, air-conditioning, multi-flex interior (row two flat folding seats, three position boot load area floor and split tailgate), automatic electric parking brake with hill assist, electronic stability programme (ESP), six airbags, ABS with EBFD and emergency brake assist, two isofix seat mountings, remote central locking…

The Peugeot 207 hatchback and SW now have extra “six appeal” with the introduction of a new 6-Speed manual gearbox and a new Euro 5 HDi diesel engine.

The 207 Sport HDi 110 hatchback and SW Sport and Outdoor HDi 110 models are now replaced by new versions fitted with a new 6-speed manual gearbox and a more powerful HDi 112 bhp diesel engine.

This new 1.6 litre HDi 112 FAP diesel engine meets the requirements of the Euro 5 emission standards and benefits from a number of improvements over the current 110 bhp unit. These include increased performance in terms of driveability and responsiveness, as well as quieter operation, while at the same time reducing CO₂ emissions.

Thanks to its new hi-tech design, this new four cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,560 cm³ and eight valves, has a maximum torque output of 270 Nm at 1,750 rpm, an increase of 12.5% over the current engine and, during overboost, 285 compared to 260 Nm. It also has a very wide operating range with high levels of torque available at all times, ensuring good driveability and reduced fuel consumption on a day to day basis (since the user can drive more often at lower engine speeds): 135 Nm from 1000 rpm, 242 at 1500 rpm, 270 from 1750 to 2000 and 224 Nm at 3500 rpm. Its maximum power output is 112 bhp at 3600 rpm.

New-generation technology

A number of technical developments derived from the extensive know-how of Peugeot’s engineers in terms of HDi FAP diesel engines have made it possible to achieve these improvements. Between this new 1.6 litre HDi and its predecessor, more than 50 % of the parts have been entirely redesigned.

The engine uses Peugeot’s Extreme Combustion Chamber System (ECCS) technology and a new Continental Automotive System common rail injection where the injection pressure is increased to 1,650 bars (compared to 1600 previously) as well as new piezo-electric injectors with seven apertures (instead of solenoid injectors with six apertures as fitted to the previous 1.6 litre HDi diesel engine).

The engine management software has also been entirely redesigned to give this unit more comprehensive injection mapping (up to 5 injections per cycle), improved efficiency and better diagnostics for after-sales service. This helps to improve the homogeneity of the air/diesel fuel mixture for maximum performance, quieter combustion and a reduction of emissions at source.

The engine also uses a Honeywell Turbo Technology variable-geometry turbocharger, optimised in terms of its size. Being smaller, it has a lower inertia, reducing response times to a minimum. An improved exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR valve) and the reduction of internal friction losses allows maximum enhancement of engine efficiency while minimising potential energy losses. Like its predecessor, this 1.6 litre HDi comes as standard with a diesel particulate emission filter (FAP) with a service life of 112,000 miles.

Peugeot 207 Sport models also benefit from improvements to the standard specification with the fitment of dark tinted rear windows and rear electric windows on the five-door hatchback and SW versions.

The allure of Peugeot’s range of vehicles from the 107 to the 308 CC has just got stronger, with a range of five exciting Special Edition models.

The contours of the exterior body flow smoothly, unruffled and without interruption or embellishment from the end of the bonnet to the top of the boot lid. All surfaces are perfectly aligned, with clearances between each element precisely determined to obtain a quality of assembly rivalling that of a goldsmith. The overall effect it creates is that of a vehicle that has been hewn from a solid block of material.

At the front, the interpretation of the Marque’s traditional feline appearance is spectacular; “LED” lights are highlighted by the use of illuminated surrounds that blend perfectly with the overall exterior body styling. A new driving experience

A 2.0 litre HDi FAP163 bhp diesel engine, mounted at the front of the vehicle, is combined with a 37 bhp electric motor at the rear. Peugeot’s 207 has dominated the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for the last three years, whether on the gravel roads of Scotland or the tarmac of San Remo.

To recognise this achievement and that of Kris Meeke in winning the 2009 IRC drivers’ title, Peugeot has created the Special Edition 207 S16.

The Peugeot 308 CC now has extra six appeal with the introduction of a new 1.6 litre 156 bhp Euro 5 THP turbo-charged petrol engine and a new 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Positioned as the flagship of the 308 CC petrol range the new 308 CC THP 156 automatic sees the introduction of a new “AT6” 6-speed automatic gearbox, further strengthening the vehicle’s image as a distinctive and dynamic vehicle.

The new “AT6” automatic gearbox has been developed by “Aisin AW” to specifications defined by the PSA Peugeot Citroën group. Close in engineering terms to the “AM6” (fitted to the group’s most powerful HDi diesel engines – V6 HDi, 2.2 litre and 2.0 litre HDi), this new gearbox is designed to withstand a maximum torque of 300 Nm (450 Nm for the AM6).

Lighter and even more compact than the AM6, the AT6 has been designed to reduce the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, (around 7% less than the previous model). It also benefits from a more efficient torque converter and a significant reduction in internal friction losses.

Particular attention has also been paid to the quality and speed of the gear changes in terms of smoothness, synchronisation and responsiveness.

Peugeot UK’s Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle will fly to Sao Paulo next month for the Rally Curitibia Brazil, the next round of the IRC Series, after an eventful 2010 Monte Carlo Rally.

At one stage, the reigning Intercontinental Rally Challenge Champions looked to be ready to take the lead, probably the most challenging of all asphalt rallies. They went into Day Two of the event, ready to do battle with Ford’s WRC stars Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen.

Problems developed on Stage 5. Their Peugeot 207 S2000 touched hidden black ice on the approach to a bridge. The car slid slightly wide and went down an embankment. The car could not be recovered. Meeke and Nagle stood on the approach to the corner, sportingly warning fellow competitors to slow down.

Meeke insisted the fault was all his, but there were no recriminations from team chief Marc Van Dalen. “These things happen. We are a team. We win together, we lose together, and we will go to Brazil to win once more” he told iRally. “I have complete confidence in Kris and Paul”.

Tyre choice is always crucial in the Monte Carlo Rally, but in this instance, the car would have slid off whatever tyre combination was fitted.

There was a certain sense of déjà vu about the incident. A similar “off” happened in last year’s Monte Carlo, but Meeke and Nagle then went on to win the IRC Drivers Championship, and helped Peugeot retain their manufacturers’ title. Van Dalen says the same can happen this year, and head of Peugeot Sport Olivier Quesnel, speaking to Rally Radio in Monte Carlo, warmly praised Meeke’s ability.

The final night of the rally saw an exciting battle on the legendary Col de Turini stages between Mikko Hirvonen and Sébastien Ogier. Hirvonen the overnight leader defied the pundits by holding the Frenchman at bay on SS12 and13. Ogier eventually retired ahead of the final 2 stages with a broken alternator drive shaft, gifting a very comfortable victory to Hirvonen.

The Intercontinental Rally Challenge takes participating drivers to some of the most exciting and evocative rallies of the world. Peugeot has won the Manufacturers’ Championship every year for the last three years.

This week sees the launch of the first ever pan-European eco-driving challenge – the Peugeot Eco Cup. Following in the footsteps of those early pioneering motoring journeys, the Peugeot Eco Cup will follow a 1000 kilometre course from Paris to Geneva, with the winners being those arriving at the finish within set time targets having used the least fuel.

Entry to the Peugeot Eco Cup is open to any qualified driver.  Would-be competitors can sign up at the dedicated website http://ecocup.peugeot.com which can also be found via www.peugeot.co.uk by 15 February 2010.

The website features a range of eco-driving tips, an online eco-driving test and details of the four different Peugeot cars available for the event.  Applicants select the car category they prefer to compete in, enter their details and submit a 140 word description of what makes a good eco driver.

Peugeot will select 72 competitors from the online entries and then randomly draw entrants to be invited to take the challenge, with four each representing the 18 European countries (and accompanied by a team-mate of their choice), to compete in four different Peugeot cars: 207 HDi 90, 308 HDi 110, 3008 HDi 110 and 5008 HDi 110.  Each car is a diesel powered practical family vehicle recognised for its excellent fuel economy and low carbon emissions.

With strict equivalent weights for each model used, the 72 vehicles will all set off from Paris on Sunday, 28th February 2010 towards Geneva via a compulsory 1,000 kilometre route to be covered within the 30-36 hour permitted period.

For each model, the candidate having consumed the least fuel at the end of the course will win a new Peugeot car. Winners will be announced and the keys to the vehicles will be handed over on Tuesday 2nd March 2010 on the Peugeot stand at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Peugeot 308 CC will be the first model in the Peugeot range to benefit from a new 1.6 litre 112 bhp diesel engine. This new engine is the result of Peugeot’s continual development and optimisation of its diesel HDi FAP technology, widely acclaimed for its performance and efficiency.

This new 1.6 litre HDi FAP diesel engine has been designed to meet the requirements of the new Euro 5 emission standards. It also benefits from a number of improvements over the current 110 bhp unit with improved performance in terms of flexibility and responsiveness, as well as noise reduction, while at the same time reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Thanks to its new hi-tech design, this new four cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,560 cm3, and eight valves, has a maximum torque output of 270 Nm at 1,750 rpm, an increase of 12.5% over the current engine, and during overboost, 285 compared to 260 Nm. It also has a very wide operating range with high levels of torque available at all times, ensuring good driveability and reduced fuel consumption on a day to day basis (since the user can drive more often at lower engine speeds): 135 Nm from 1000 rpm, 242 at 1500 rpm, 270 from 1750 to 2000 and 224 Nm at 3500 rpm. Its maximum power output is 112 bhp at 3600 rpm.

New-generation technology

A number of technical developments derived from the extensive know-how of Peugeot’s engineers in terms of HDi FAP diesel engines, have made it possible to achieve these improvements. Between this new 1.6 litre HDi and its predecessor, more than 50 % of the parts have been entirely redesigned.

For example, like the new V6 3.0 litre HDi and 2.0 litre HDi diesel engines that were launched this year, Extreme Combustion Chamber System (ECCS) technology is much to the fore.

This state-of-the-art combustion chamber design offers:

a lower compression ratio (16.0 compared to 17.5 previously) for enhanced performance and reduced emissions (including NOx).
an increase in the diameter of the combustion chamber (+10%), helping to reduce the quantity of unburnt fuel as a result of less contact with the chamber “walls”.
a reduction of the SWIRL (air movement in the combustion chamber) of nearly 10%, thereby reducing heat loss against the walls.
This technology is combined with a new common rail injection system (Continental Automotive System) where the injection pressure is increased to 1,650 bars (compared to1600 previously) as well as new piezo-electric injectors with seven apertures (instead of solenoid injectors with six apertures as fitted to the previous 1.6 litre HDi diesel engine).

The engine management software has also been entirely redesigned to give this unit more comprehensive injection mapping (up to 5 injections per cycle), improved efficiency and better diagnostics for after-sales service. This helps to improve the homogeneity of the air/diesel fuel mixture for maximum performance, reduced fuel consumption, a reduction of emissions at source and quieter combustion.

The engine also uses a Honeywell Turbo Technology variable-geometry turbocharger optimised in terms of its size. Being smaller, it has a lower inertia, reducing response times to a minimum. An improved exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR valve) and the reduction of internal friction losses allows maximum enhancement of engine efficiency while minimising potential energy losses. Like its predecessor, this 1.6 litre HDi comes as standard with a diesel particulate emission filter (FAP) with a service life of 112,000 miles.

This new engine will be available in the 308 CC in both Sport and SE trim levels and will be known as the HDi 112.

It was forty two years ago that a British driver, Vic Elford, last won the Monte Carlo rally and Peugeot UK’s reigning IRC champion Kris Meeke is aiming to change this.

The 2010 Monte Carlo rally is the first round of this year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and is perhaps the most famous rally there is, whether you are an ardent rally fan or just a motoring enthusiast.

This year is the seventy eighth running of the Monte Carlo rally which starts on Tuesday 19 January, with a single super special stage and finishes in Monte Carlo in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Last year, Peugeot dominated the rally by occupying all three top positions with its Peugeot 207 S2000, based on its road-going 207 hatchback. This year, however, the competition will be even fiercer with a total of eight manufacturers contesting the 2010 IRC – Peugeot, Ford, Fiat Abarth, Honda, Skoda, Subaru, Proton and Ralliart (Mitsubishi). It is a result of the strong support from the many different manufacturers and the extensive TV coverage provided by Eurosport that the IRC is now the chosen rally series of the Monte Carlo Rally organisers, instead of the World Rally Championship.

This year will also see Britain’s top two rally drivers go head to head over the 405 kms of the 15 special stages. Kris Meeke, 2009 IRC Drivers’ Champion, driving his Peugeot UK supported Peugeot 207 S2000 will take on Skoda UK supported Guy Wilks, twice British Rally champion in his Skoda Fabia S2000. It was seven years ago that two top British drivers were last battling on the Monte Carlo rally and their names were Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

Kris partnered again by co-driver Paul Nagle will start the rally as favourite after he dominated the IRC last year, winning four rounds on his way to winning the Drivers’ Championship and helping Peugeot secure its third consecutive Manufacturers’ title.

Unprecedented TV coverage provided by Eurosport will see all but one of the special stages screened live, enabling fans to see all the action, as it happens. Four live stages on Wednesday, six on Thursday and four on Friday can be found on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.

Fifteen special stages, 405 kms, snow and ice covered roads mixed with normal tarmac and three days of competitive rallying lie in front of the eventual winner of this year’s Monte Carlo Rally.  

This year, after a full season in the IRC, Kris and Paul will be one of the favourites to win the rally and having tested extensively in snow and ice conditions, they cannot wait to get started!

The SR1 concept car also blends styles in terms of its technical characteristics. For example, it incorporates HYbrid4 technology, which will be available in the Peugeot 3008 from 2011. On the SR1, at the front, a 1.6 litre THP petrol engine with a power output of 218 bhp is combined with a rear electric motor developing 95 bhp. In electric only mode, the car becomes a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV), with a combined cycle fuel consumption of 57.7 mpg or 119 g/km of CO2.

When the two power trains operate simultaneously, the SR1 develops a potential maximum power output of 313 bhp, while benefiting also from four-wheel drive.

With the use of HYbrid4 technology, which will eventually be available on different models in the Peugeot range, the SR1 concept offers convincing proof that driving enjoyment can be combined with environmental friendliness.

The vehicle’s dynamic efficiency is enhanced by a rigid, lightweight structure comprising of a one-piece body incorporating a tubular chassis onto which are mounted the mechanical components and suspension.

Exploiting the best of existing technology to offer road holding worthy of this exceptional concept, the suspension consists of double wishbones with drop links at the front and the rear. For even greater driving precision, the SR1 innovates also through the adoption of four-wheel steering.  Motorised links on the rear suspension wishbones control the turning angle of the rear wheels as a function of vehicle speed, giving the vehicle superb agility under all circumstances.

The Peugeot SR1 concept car will be unveiled to the general public at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, in March.

The Lion symbol, which has been associated with Peugeot products since 1858, is evolving too. Created by Peugeot’s own designers, the Lion badge is a focal point on every vehicle. The new Lion is now simpler in design, more dynamic, with a new posture and fluidity. It has a new bi-metallic look through the use of both matt and polished finishes.

Three-dimensional in design for greater modernity it discards the current blue flag background for a stronger effect. The current Peugeot blue colour also becomes darker and is now combined into the new font used to create the Marque’s name.

The first production vehicle to display this new Lion will be the stunning Peugeot RCZ launched in the Spring.

To reduce its ecological footprint and dependency on fossil fuels, Peugeot has been actively investing in a range of new technologies to meet the needs of future mobility, without sacrificing driving enjoyment.

Today, Peugeot continues to improve engine efficiency through its downsizing strategy for both petrol and HDi FAP diesel engines. Alongside this; the Marque is also currently developing a new three cylinder petrol engine.

Superchips Ltd, the long established performance ECU specialist, is pleased to announce a new performance upgrade for the Peugeot 207 GTi THP 175.

The GTi’s 1598cc, 175bhp, twin scroll, turbocharged unit features an advanced MED17 engine management system, which required a thorough analysis by Superchip’s in house technicians to identify performance enhancement opportunities.

Extensive fine tuning of fuelling, ignition and boost levels has produced a performance remap for the current range topping Peugeot 207, which was validated using Superchip’s in house chassis dynomometer allied to a comprehensive road testing program.

Post remap, the Superchips converted Peugeot 207 GTi THP 175 produces a power gain of 12bhp (up to 190bhp from a measured 178bhp,) with an extra 25bhp in the mid range, greatly enhancing real world fast road performance.

More impressively, torque leaps from a measured 258Nm (188lb.ft) to a mighty 306Nm (223lb.ft,) with nearly 300Nm available from 2000rpm to 4000rpm, highlighting the improved flexibility of the Superchip’s upgrade, which is designed to use regular 95 octane forecourt petrol.

The new Superchip’s performance ECU remap for the Peugeot 207 GTi THP 175 is available by visiting one of approximately 100 Superchips dealerships in the UK who will install the upgrade. As part of this process, the customer’s original file is stored for safe keeping.

The Peugeot 308 hatchback and SW ranges will benefit from a number of updates in January 2010.

ESP will be fitted as standard on all 308 SW models and all 308 hatchback models except the Urban.  The standard fitment of ESP adds to the already impressive safety equipment of the 308: traction control (ASR) and stability control (CDS). It can be disconnected for enhanced traction on difficult road surfaces and is reconnected automatically above a speed of 31 mph.

Peugeot Connect USB & Bluetooth will also be introduced as standard equipment on the 308 Sport hatchback and 308 SW Sport and SE models. This new and innovative in-car-entertainment system is linked to the MP3 compatible radio / CD player and provides full Bluetooth functionality. The inclusion of Bluetooth enables a compatible mobile phone to be paired with the car. Once paired, the phone can be operated via the remote controls on the steering column. High-quality telephone communications can, therefore, be carried out in complete safety using both the car’s speakers and inbuilt microphone.

This feature helps the driver to adopt a more economical driving style by indicating the optimal gear to be selected, thereby ensuring the lowest possible fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The indicator is located in the odometer and consists of a rising vertical arrow indicating the best time to change gear. The driver, however, is responsible for following the system’s indications.

The best gear, or ‘target gear’ is determined according to a number of parameters.

* Gear engaged
* Engine temperature and engine speed
* Driving style (position of the accelerator pedal determines the sought-after level of performance)

The indicator arrow remains visible until the driver follows the suggested recommendation.

Following in the footsteps of the Peugeot 3008, and before it is launched, Peugeot’s new 5008 compact MPV has been awarded five stars by Euro NCAP under its more stringent 2009 test protocol.

The new test called the Euro NCAP global rating combines the scores from all the different individual tests, Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Pedestrian Protection and the new area of assessment, Safety Assist. Under the new test, vehicles are awarded a single total score from one to five stars. The entire range of previous tests is still included but now points are also awarded for Rear Impact (Whiplash) Protection and the availability of ESP and speed limiting systems.

Safety is always a crucial factor in the design of any new Peugeot vehicle. The 5008, therefore, has benefited from Peugeot’s wide experience and also from the latest technological advances to ensure it provides its occupants the highest levels of safety.

The Peugeot 5008 sets new standards in terms of safety and driving comfort with the introduction of new and innovative technologies into the compact MPV segment. It is designed structurally to dissipate impact energy in a designed and controlled way. At the front it has three impact absorption structures to ensure maximum protection in a front impact. At the side, the ‘B’ post has been specially strengthened and the design of the doors and side structure ensure maximum rigidity and create a solid barrier to protect the occupants.

The rear of the vehicle has been designed to incorporate an aluminium impact beam to absorb impact forces and ensure maximum protection in a rear impact.

To provide the best possible protection for pedestrians, the Peugeot 5008 incorporates a pedestrian impact beam and protective padding to help reduce the extent of leg and thigh injuries. In addition, the design of the bonnet and the shape of the inner frame ensure maximum space is available under the bonnet to limit head injuries, if a pedestrian was to hit the bonnet.

To supplement the performance of the structure in terms of impact resistance, a range of protection devices has been developed to restrain and protect the occupants:

A total of six airbags are fitted as standard on all models:

* Two adaptive front airbags (Passenger airbag can be deactivated to fit a rear-facing child seat)
* Two side air bags
* Two head / curtain airbags covering all three rows of seats

To restrain the occupants, seven three-point inertia reel seat belts with a fasten seat belt warning system are fitted. At the front, pretensioners and force limiters are fitted.

To protect occupants in a rear impact from possible ‘whiplash’ injuries, the front and rear head restraints and the design of the seats ensure good support for the head.

The Peugeot 5008 also provides high levels of child safety with three Isofix child seat mountings to ensure child safety seats are attached directly to the vehicle structure. All mountings are of the latest three point design and are available on all the passenger seats in the second row.

The 5008 is also equipped with an electrically operated child safety system which automatically locks the rear doors and disables the electric rear windows, all from a switch operated by the driver.

Active safety is also a strong point with the standard fitment on all models of ABS with EBFD / EBA, ESP and traction control, Xenon directional headlamps and tyre pressure sensors are also available as an option.

With the launch of the new Peugeot 5008 on to the UK market in January 2010, no longer will it be necessary to compromise on safety when choosing a family compact MPV. Now a family compact MPV can provide top levels of safety, a spacious luxurious interior and low emissions ensuring low taxation and running costs.

Peugeot’s revolutionary vehicle of the future – the BB1 – will be visiting London’s Covent Garden on 7th and 8th November.

The BB1 is a glimpse of what could be urban mobility in the future. A cross between a car and a scooter, it is powered by two clever electric motors mounted in the rear wheels and has enough power from its lithium-ion battery packs to travel up to 75 miles between recharges.

Unlike many small electric cars, this vehicle can accommodate up to four adults due to its innovative layout and controls which are more scooter than car. Solar panels help power the vehicle’s onboard systems and it will communicate directly with a modern smart phone, so you can have your music, images, hands-free phone and navigation, just how you like it!

The Peugeot BB1 will be on show in Covent Garden from 10 am until 7 pm, on 7th and 8th November, enabling the general public to have a close up look into the future of urban mobility.

Twenty five Peugeot BB1 branded rickshaws will also be operating around Central London to ferry interested individuals to the BB1 display, free of both cost and of course emissions.

Peugeot’s class leading family compact MPV the Partner Tepee is now available with a new Euro 5 petrol engine making it more fuel efficient and ‘greener’.

Available next month, the Partner Tepee S model will no longer be powered by Peugeot’s current 1.6 litre 16v 110 bhp petrol engine but will now see the introduction of the 1.6 litre 120 bhp VTi Euro 5 petrol engine previously fitted in the 207 and 308 model range.

This high tech petrol engine uses Peugeot’s class leading VTi Technology (Variable Valve Lift and Timing injection). This indirect injection petrol engine is a real first for this size of engine due to the advanced technology it employs. In addition to the variable valve timing for both the inlet and exhaust valves, a variable inlet valve lift system allows the valve opening distance to be adjusted gradually according to the position of the accelerator pedal. The combination of these two technologies improves the engine’s thermodynamic efficiency by significantly reducing fuel consumption (particularly at low engine speeds) and therefore CO2 emissions, but also improves response and overall flexibility.

This results in a 12.5% improvement in fuel consumption and a 15% improvement in CO2 emissions. Vehicle excise duty, VED, also reduces from £215.00 to £175.00 a saving of £45 per year.

The new Partner Tepee S VTi 120 will be available at an on-the-road price of £12,795.

The MPH show in November will be the stage for the UK premiere of Peugeot’s exciting new RCZ Coupé.

Visitors to this year’s MPH The Prestige & Performance Motor Show will be among the first people in the UK to get access to Peugeot’s stunning RCZ Coupé. Recently launched at the Frankfurt Motor show in September, the car has not been seen before in the UK.

The Bipper Tepee has been designed with urban driving in mind. To carry out any manoeuvre in complete safety in urban traffic, large door mirrors are provided. They can be adjusted electrically and are heated in conjunction with the heated rear screen de-misting function. To assist in tricky parking manoeuvres an optional rear parking assistance system is available. For passenger convenience, one-touch electric front windows are fitted as standard and manual air-conditioning is available either as standard or as an option.

The Bipper Tepee is fitted as standard with a Radio / CD player with MP3 compatibility. An optional hands-free phone kit allows a Bluetooth® mobile phone to be used inside the vehicle in complete safety.

To ensure the Bipper Tepee is very easy to drive it has an optimised suspension and a turning circle diameter of only 9.95 metres between kerbs. Hydraulic power steering helps the driver to nip in and out of urban traffic and makes it easier to access tight parking spots. ABS is fitted as standard combined with ventilated front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

The Bipper is fitted as standard with 15’ inch steel wheels and 185/65R15 tyres. The spare wheel is located in the rear part of the floor and is a full size spare wheel.

The Bipper Tepee is available with two engine options, a 1.4 litre petrol engine and a 1.4 litre HDi diesel engine. Both engines ensure the vehicle has appropriate performance levels while also reducing fuel consumption and ensuring the lowest possible CO2 emissions.

The 1.4 litre petrol engine is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox: the 1.4 litre HDi diesel engine is available with either a conventional 5 speed manual gearbox or electronically controlled 5 speed manual gearbox, perfect for use in busy urban areas. Based on the standard manual gearbox, it uses an electro-hydraulic control system which ensures smooth and flexible gear changes and allows the driver to select either manual mode (gear changes controlled by the driver via the gear lever), or automatic mode (no gear changes carried out by the driver).

The Bipper Tepee is also a safe environment for all its occupants due to the comprehensive range of secondary safety equipment which compliments the specially reinforced structure.

All models are fitted as standard with driver, passenger and side airbags combined with front inertia reel seatbelts at the front (with pre-tensioners and force limiters to control the physical forces to which the occupants are exposed) and three inertia reel seat belt for the rear occupants. Since it is both necessary and compulsory to wear a seat belt, a warning lamp on the instrument panel reminds occupants to wear their seat belt and an audible warning is activated if the driver’s seat belt is unfastened.

Children, who will often be the first inside the Bipper Tepee, are especially well catered for with both the outer rear seats equipped with Isofix child safety seat mounting points. The passenger air bag can also be de-activated if required, enabling a child safety seat to be fitted to the front passenger seat.

Finally, to complete the safety devices, an ‘inertia’ cut-off safety system detects any sharp deceleration and, in the event of a collision, instantly disconnects the electrical power and fuel supply, thereby eliminating any possible fire risk.

The Bipper Tepee is available in two trim levels S and Outdoor. The S is available with either a 1.4 litre petrol engine or a 1.4 HDi diesel engine. Standard equipment consists of: driver, passenger and side airbags, ABS, one touch electric front windows, electric heated door mirrors, remote control central locking, radio / CD player with MP3 functionality, power steering, twin glazed sliding side doors, height adjustable driver seat with armrest, rake and reach adjustable steering wheel, 60 / 40 split folding and removable rear bench seat, rear seat head restraints, 15’ steel wheels with ‘Sketch’ wheel trims …

The Outdoor builds on this standard specification and is also available with both engine options. It adds the following standard equipment; suspension raised by 15 mm, larger body sill protection mouldings and side mouldings, <0} an under–body engine protection plate, lower front panel trim, roof bars, front fog lights, manual air-conditioning…

The Bipper Tepee range is available in a range of eight exterior body colours and two standard interior trims, Marie Bursa cloth (S) and Trip cloth (Outdoor).

With its BB1 concept car, Peugeot has pushed back the conventions and boundaries of current automobile manufacturing to create a totally new solution to the current and future needs of urban mobility.

Capable of seating four people in a vehicle just 2.5 metres long, the BB1 concept car is a full electric vehicle that reinvents the automobile in every way: architecture, style, interior design, interior space, connectivity – while all the time respecting the environment.

The world is always on the move and urban traffic levels are forever increasing. Everyone wants to save time, but the protection of the environment is an ever increasing priority.

To meet these ever changing needs, Peugeot has developed a range of mobility options across all of its many product offerings. Depending on age and individual needs, everyone can find a suitable solution in Peugeot’s lion-branded range of bikes, motorbikes and automobiles.

Peugeot are, however, constantly studying and sharing mobility ideas within all the different sister companies to pool their expertise and their creativity to create particularly innovative and original projects. Indeed, Peugeot has always sought to be a global, recognized provider of mobility, with an inventive, responsible and competitive range of vehicles, whether they are on two, three or four wheels.

The BB1 concept car, unveiled at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show, paves the way for this ideal by pushing back the barriers to bring an innovative, fun, expressive and stylish vehicle. This electric vehicle aims to explore new grounds with regards to urban mobility.

A totally original idea

The design brief for the BB1 was to meet the mobility needs of everyday individuals on a daily basis and provide maximum versatility, a compact size, manoeuvrability (3.5m turning circle) and good performance levels.

To achieve all this, the Peugeot teams faced a real challenge – never before in the history of the automobile has a car been created to accommodate four people in an overall length of just 2.5m. This amazing use of interior space can also be adapted to increase the potential load capacity, even though its ‘compact’ size gives it the ability to park in extremely tight spots – even perpendicular to the pavement.

To meet this challenge, the design of the structure of the passenger compartment has drawn inspiration from two-wheeled vehicles in terms of the ergonomics and controls. The driver controls the vehicle by adopting a novel driving position – more vertical than is usual. This is mainly made possible through the absence of foot pedals, as in a conventional car.

Access to the vehicle is through the reverse opening doors, while the load area access is through an innovative tail board / tailgate design. The interior can be transformed as required to offer a load volume of up to 160 litres (with four occupants), or 855 litres (with just one person in the car).

A stylish break with the past

The style of the vehicle highlights the interior space and the unique driving position. With its bold styling lines at the front, large glazed surface area, low door waistline (for the passenger compartment ventilation system) and extended wheel arches, the car represents a real move away from current vehicle design.

Robust and protective, the quality and technology shine through in every detail, such as the ‘full LED’ front headlights and rear view cameras. The double bubble roof, similar to the RCZ, helps with the feeling of space within the vehicle, as does the openness and brightness created by the large glazed surface areas.

User-friendly connectivity

The BB1 includes an extensive range of interactive technologies. The colour multi-function display and the vehicle’s audio system provide the ideal link for all the functionalities of a ‘smart phone’: telephone, navigation, Internet access, radio, MP3… Just connect the device to the USB connector and the 12V power socket if necessary.

Universal and user-friendly, this system enables the BB1 to provide a range of essential services without the need for multiple pieces of equipment, bringing extra safety to driving and saving considerable weight.

Similarly, the rear-view cameras remove the need for mirrors, optimising the width of the vehicle and improving its aerodynamics, while adding to the high-tech feeling of the interior.

An environmentally-efficient vehicle…

Creative – the BB1 breaks new ground with its electric drive system. It is fitted with two electric motors mounted in the rear wheels, designed in association with Michelin. This original set-up maximises the interior space and draws its inspiration from the world of the quad bike. They produce a maximum power output of 15 kW (20hp) – or 7.5 kW per motor, proving the optimum power to weight ratio for the vehicle in its urban driving environment. This ensures the best possible response at start-up (0 to 19 mph in 2.8 seconds) and excellent in-gear acceleration (19 – 37 mph in 4 seconds), ensuring driveability and safety are to the levels expected of a Peugeot.

The power for the vehicle is provided by two lithium-ion battery packs supplying energy to the respective electric motors located under the right and left-hand rear seats, with a comfortable range of 75 miles. This layout avoids any reduction in the interior space or the available storage space. Furthermore, this location between the front and rear wheels helps with the weight distribution of the vehicle and benefits vehicle stability, especially during braking.

Innovative light-weight structure…

Peugeot engineers have completely reinvented the way to design a vehicle. The BB1 uses a tubular chassis designed by Peugeot Motorcycles. It still, however, includes all normal ‘car’ dynamic systems: electric power steering, suspension (double-wishbone front and rear suspension), friction damper spring assemblies – granting the vehicle a level of road-holding to match the vehicle’s performance, its urban nature and driveability and safety levels worthy of the Peugeot Marque.

The body is made up of a very light carbon fibre structure, designed to wrap around the passenger compartment, all of which enables potential future customisation and a possibility of a variety of vehicle shapes.

Finally, the vehicle weight does not exceed 600 kg, including the batteries, enabling all its mechanical parts to be placed in their ideal position, ensuring optimal weight distribution.

An environmentally-friendly concept

Thanks to its electric propulsion, the BB1 is an environmentally-friendly vehicle par excellence and emits no loud noise outside the vehicle and, above all, no pollutant emissions owing to the fact that it consumes no fossil fuels.

But this eco-responsibility isn’t limited to just driving. At a standstill, the passenger compartment ventilation keeps operating in daylight thanks to the solar panels placed on the roof of the vehicle. This enables two functions: pre-ventilation of the interior and the trapping of pollutants and ultra-fine dust particles (μm), due to the use of high-performance filters and activated carbon.

The use of new generation solar cells

The BB1′s solar panels use cutting-edge technology, designed in partnership with the Ocean Vital foundation. Flexible (enabling their usage on surfaces as complex as the dual-bubble roof of the BB1), they provide a high yield of around 16% of energy captured (a much higher performance than current systems) to power some of the vehicle’s systems.

The Ocean Vital Foundation, created by round-the-world navigator Raphaël Dinelli, develops new clean technologies with the aim of preserving our natural resources and environment. As part of the BB1 project, Peugeot and Ocean Vital have entered into an agreement to support research and development into new renewable energy technology and, therefore, encourage the development of research projects and the ‘green economy’ in France.

Peugeot will introduce at the end of 2010 a new edition to its comprehensive model range, the i0n ‘zero-emissions’ electric vehicle. This vehicle, developed in co-operation with Mitsubishi Motor Company (MMC), is aimed at both retail and fleet customers.

Peugeot has a long history in electric vehicles and, with the Peugeot 106 Electric which was produced between 1995 and 2003, remains to this day the manufacturer who has sold the most ‘zero emission’ electric vehicles in the world.

With this strong grounding, Peugeot will return to the production and selling of electric vehicles with the launch of the all new electric vehicle the i0n across Europe from the end of 2010.

The i0n will have a potential range of 80 miles due to the use of lithium-ion batteries and will be the ideal solution for the ever-increasing challenges of urban mobility versus environmental protection.

Busy urban areas will be the favourite playground of the i0n. With four doors and four seats, a compact length of 3.48 m and a turning circle of 4.50 m, it will be ideal for busy congested city centres. It develops a maximum power output of 64 bhp and a torque of 180 Nm and, with its maximum speed of 80 mph, it will have all the performance it needs in this busy environment. It has an operating range of 80 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion batteries and they can be recharged in six hours using a conventional mains power supply or recharged to 80% capacity within thirty minutes, thanks to its fast charging system.

These performance levels allow this ‘zero-emission’ city car to offer a good level of versatility, comparable in performance and comfort to a small conventional internal combustion engine vehicle.

Its respect for the environment par excellence, its compact size, safety and simple operation will be its best, but by no means only, attributes.

In fact, onboard it will also include some innovative functions, thanks in particular to the ‘localised communication unit’. This unit not only authorises the emergency call system for which Peugeot is a leader in terms of deployment throughout Europe (location of vehicles at the time of an accident and triggering the dispatch of suitable emergency services) but also authorises data transfer (battery status, distance covered, distance to travel before maintenance is due, etc…) thus providing assistance especially for fleet operators.

The i0n also illustrates Peugeot’s commitment to integrate within their model range different automotive solutions, suited to different urban mobility needs. It also represents one of the key elements of the Brand’s strategy, to reduce its environmental footprint and the dependence on fossil fuels.

In line with this strategy, between now and the end of 2010, customers will discover some new solutions within the Peugeot model range:

* The i0n, coming at the end of 2010, an all-electric vehicle for everyday urban use.
* The 3008 HYbrid4,arriving in spring 2011, equipped with technology offering a range of benefits (147 kW / 200 bhp, 4-wheel drive, etc.., with CO2 emissions reduced to just 99g/km).

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Peugeot will unveil a concept version of its exciting RCZ 2+2 coupé, the RCZ HYbrid4. Based on the same power train as the 3008 Hybrid4, it is powered by a 2.0 litre HDi FAP diesel engine with a maximum power of 163 bhp and a 37 bhp electric motor giving a total power output of 200 bhp.

Its creation clearly demonstrates the flexibility of the Peugeot HYbrid4 technology and the marque’s desire to offer this technology in different vehicle types across its model range (crossover, coupé ….)

With the innovative HYbrid4 technology, the RCZ HYbrid4 concept car achieves a level of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions previously unheard of in the world of the sports car: 76.35 mpg and just 95 g/km of CO2. This clearly shows that performance and respect for the environment are achievable together in one vehicle.

The RCZ HYbrid4 is powered by a 2.0 litre 163 bhp HDi diesel engine at the front and a 37 bhp electric power train at the rear. This gives a maximum power output of 200 bhp and a maximum torque of 221 lb ft at the front and 147 lb ft at the rear.

The hybrid power train also benefits the dynamic performance of the vehicle as the rear suspension now becomes a multi-link arrangement due to the HYbrid4 rear power train module, which also provides four-wheel drive.

The RCZ HYbrid4 concept car illustrates more than ever a new chapter in the history of Peugeot’s ‘lifestyle vehicles’ and shows that, in the future, performance can live happily alongside respect for the environment.

The 4007 is Peugeot’s first compact all-terrain vehicle, available with either five or seven seat versions, and is particularly appreciated for its dynamic attributes, combining high performance engines with an innovative integral electronic transmission and chassis components worthy of a saloon car.

With the launch of a 2.2-litre HDi FAP 156 bhp version now fitted with a semi-automatic gearbox and dual clutch, the 4007 further demonstrates that it is possible to combine adventure, automation, environmental efficiency and driving enjoyment.

Dual Clutch System (DCS)
To meet the increasing expectations of customers in terms of versatility and driving pleasure, the 4007 makes use of its new gearbox with cutting-edge technology; the Dual Clutch System.

This technique consists of automating the gear changes on a manual gearbox and using two clutches to transmit the engine torque. The first clutch is located on the even-numbered gears while the second clutch is fitted to the odd-numbered gears. A fine-tuned electronic management system anticipates the gear changes and hydraulically operates one of the two clutches, which operate in parallel, within a few tenths of a second without a torque converter. As such, one shaft is always connected and changing from one gear to another takes place in just a few tenths of a second, resulting in exceptionally smooth driving. Gear changing is quick and smooth with no interruption in the supply of torque.

In short, the Dual Clutch System ensures smooth driving without a clutch pedal while retaining all the dynamism and efficiency of a car equipped with a manual gearbox.

6-speed DCS automatic
The semi-automatic gearbox chosen for the 4007 is equipped with six speeds to make best use of the performance from the 2.2-litre HDi FAP 156 bhp engine. The choice of wet clutch technology has been favoured to transmit the generous amount of torque produced by this engine (380Nm at 2000rpm).

A versatile gearbox, the DCS 6-speed box can be managed in two ways: in automatic mode with two operating programmes (Drive or Sport) or in semi-automatic mode (Sequential) by using the gear selection paddles located behind the steering wheel.

Driving aids
The DCS 6 has the advantage of an adaptation program for slopes or inclines. The computer (ECU) authorises engine braking power according to the contours of the road to augment smooth driving. In the same vein, hill start assistance is another feature, derived from the ESP system; it automatically holds the vehicle for a few seconds to assist the vehicle in pulling away from a start.

The assurance of a dynamic and responsible SUV
The latest generation 2.2-litre HDi FAP 156 bhp engine that powers the 4007 with the DCS automatic is in keeping with the concept of efficient environmental performance.

The 4007 2.2-litre HDi FAP DCS automatic performs very favourable results in terms of energy consumption versus performance and services delivered (on-demand four-wheel-drive, seven seater on all DCS models) to confirm that it really is possible to combine dynamism and automation with environmental efficiency:

* 192g/km CO2 (the same SE spec manual version is 191g/km CO2)

Enhanced attractive design

A distinctive vehicle with its characteristic feline styling, the latest 4007 incorporates new features of style that enhance the appearance and status of Peugeot’s SUV.

On the inside, new elegant edging trim surrounds the instrument panel visor and front door strips, while the air conditioning controls has chrome trim finish. The multi-function display, located between the two instrument panel dials has a new colour graphic interface, made possible by the use of an LCD matrix.

Finally, on the outside 4007 DCS automatic models, available in SE and GT trim (both equipped as standard with seven seats), are distinguished by twin tailpipes.

This new version, to be presented for the first time at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, is now available to order. The 4007 range starts at £23,345 (on-the-road) with the DCS automatic, with the SE trim, start from £24,545 (on-the-road).

The launch of the Peugeot RCZ will mark the start of a dynamic new chapter in the history of Peugeot. This stunning coupé has been designed to be a special vehicle within the Peugeot range, aimed directly at customers who see their cars as a source of driving enjoyment as well as daily transport.

The name, RCZ, symbolises this special positioning as it will be the first Peugeot passenger car not to use the traditional numbering system with a central ‘zero’ or ‘double zero’.

Designed to enhance the sheer enjoyment of driving, the RCZ is both dynamic (the top of the range model features an all new 1.6 litre THP 200 bhp engine) and responsible, offering an innovative blend of performance and environmental-friendliness. With its reduced weight, fine-tuned aerodynamics and modern engine technology, the entry level model has CO2 emissions of only 139 g/km.

Due to the special nature of the vehicle, it will be built by Magna Steyr in Austria in a production centre that specialises in exclusive vehicles built in small volumes.

Styling

The RCZ is a compact 2+ 2 Coupé with a number of key styling features. The ‘double bubble’ of the roof, which was a major talking point of the original concept car, is retained in the production car.

The aluminium ‘roof arches’, another feature of the concept car, are also retained and help highlight the front windscreen, black roof panel and dark-tinted rear windscreen. At the front the RCZ retains the marque’s characteristic feline look.

The vehicle stands 1.36 m high and, with the optimised airflow due to the double bubble roof, has superb aerodynamics. At the rear, an active rear boot spoiler also contributes to the car’s aerodynamic efficiency; it can be deployed in two positions according to the speed of the vehicle to ensure an ideal balance between road holding and fuel consumption.

Interior

The passenger compartment of the RCZ instantly immerses the driver in a subtly elitist ambience echoing the world of motor sport.

‘Getting into’ the vehicle, the driver discovers an ergonomic driving position, ideal for enjoying the RCZ’s high levels of road-holding. The wrap-around seats with their integral head restraints fit like a glove around the front occupants, and all the controls are easily within the reach of the driver.

The use of high quality materials throughout the interior combines with the elegant design to enhance the overall premium feeling of the interior.

The instrument panel dials are contained in metal cases, with photo-etched, back-lit markings, a feature which is also continued in the stylish centrally mounted clock.

The fascia panel is covered entirely with an innovative soft feel material, hi-tech in appearance and very elegant in style. Customers will also be able to choose from several different colours. Nappa integral leather trim, a luxurious thick leather with a particularly fine, smooth grain is also available.

The overall ambience of the interior can also be enhanced by a range of hi-tech in-car-entertainment systems – Peugeot Connect 3D multimedia system, JBL™ Hi-fi system, Peugeot Connect USB box ….

The interior is also very versatile, allowing users to adapt to many situations. For example, for a long weekend, the boot offers a capacity of 384 litres (321 dm3 according to the VDA standard) added to which are storage spaces under the boot floor. There is also the potential to increase this capacity further by folding the rear seat backs down.

Finally, it offers two occasional seats, fully sculpted and perfectly usable, especially since the design of the roof with its double bubble offers extra headroom to these occasional rear passengers.

In the RCZ, good looks combine with practicality…

Power-train options

At launch in 2010, three engines will find their place under the large aluminium bonnet of the RCZ. All high-performance engines in every sense of the word with high torque and power outputs, low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and all meeting the Euro 5 emission standard. The reduction of the environmental impact of the vehicle was one of the project’s key priorities.

1.6 litre THP 200 bhp six speed manual gearbox – This all new engine allows the car’s chassis to fulfil its true potential. With its maximum torque of 188 lb ft at 1700rpm (or 203 lb ft with overboost) and a maximum power of 200bhp at 5800rpm, it enables the RCZ to accelerate from 50 to 75mph in 6.5 seconds in fifth gear and 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 39.8mpg with CO2 emission of less than 165g/km.

The 4-cylinder engine has a capacity of 1598 cm3 combined with a range of innovative technologies like the twin-scroll turbocharger for performance and instant response at very low engine speeds, direct petrol injection, and variable valve lift coupled with variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts (VTi technology), for reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The ‘sound of the engine’ during acceleration has also been optimised through the use of Sound System technology. A different sound is created according to the engine speed, just like a musical instrument.

1.6 litre THP 156 bhp six speed manual gearbox or six speed automatic gearbox – This turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine achieves a remarkable balance between performance (177 lb ft at 1400 rpm and 156 bhp at 5800 rpm) and fuel consumption (40.9 mpg and 159 g/km of CO2 with a manual gearbox). It will also be available from the summer of 2010, with an all new 6-speed sequential automatic gearbox.

2.0 litre HDi FAP 163 bhp six speed manual gearbox – With a capacity of 1997 cm3, this engine develops a maximum power of 163 bhp at 3750 rpm and a generous maximum torque of 251 lb ft at 2000 rpm. To obtain this level of performance it has a new generation ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System) combustion chamber design, a variable-geometry low-inertia turbocharger, a high-pressure diesel injection pump with a maximum pressure of 2000 bars and electronic solenoid injectors with eight apertures.

This engine optimises the RCZ’s potential in terms of road holding while limiting its fuel consumption to only 52.3 mpg in the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.

Suspension, Steering, Brakes…..

The RCZ uses the considerable knowledge and expertise of Peugeot with regards to driveability and road holding, to ensure it takes the notion of driving enjoyment to a new level within the Peugeot range.

The RCZ benefits from the already highly efficient suspension set-up found on other platform two vehicles (McPherson type front suspension and rear torsion beam), but it has been specially revised for the RCZ.

Compared to the standard ‘Platform Two’ vehicle, the ride height has been lowered by 20mm, the centre of gravity is also lower by 40mm, the front track has been widened by 54mm and the rear track is wider by 72mm.

The shock absorber calibration has also been revised to ensure the best possible levels of road holding and the RCZ will be available with both 18’ and 19’ wheels and tyres.

On versions of the RCZ fitted with the petrol turbocharged 200 bhp THP engine, the front suspension benefits from a special lower anti-roll bar to make the car even more responsive and agile.

The hydraulic power steering is designed to offer accuracy of the highest order and excellent responsiveness.

Braking, meanwhile, is powerful and durable and is assured by generously dimensioned ventilated discs with a diameter of 302 mm and a thickness of 26 mm (340×30 mm with the 200 bhp THP engine). All models are equipped with rear brake discs with a diameter of 290×12 mm.

To assist manoeuvring on steep gradients, all versions of the RCZ come with Hill Assist. This function is coupled as standard with ESP which, except on versions with an automatic gearbox, includes an intelligent traction control system (a sophisticated ASR which automatically adapts the traction of both front wheels according to the available grip levels), and of course dynamic stability control (DSC), electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) and emergency brake assist (EBA). The DSC, ASR and EBA functions can be disconnected simultaneously (ESP off) so that experienced and demanding drivers can fully exploit the car’s capabilities.

Personalisation

So that every customer can make their car unique, the RCZ lays great store on personalisation, to keep within the vehicle’s exclusive positioning.

The range options include: a real carbon roof, roof arches in different colours (black chrome, ‘satin finish’), a range of 18’ and 19’’ alloy wheels in several finishes (matt black, polished black, dark grey, diamanté), black lacquered body parts at the front, carbon door mirror covers, bodywork detailing, etc.

Customers will be able to order these items at the time of purchase and they will be available individually or grouped together.

Maximum safety

In addition to the high levels of primary safety, a direct result of the excellent road holding. The secondary safety levels are further boosted by the optimised structural design, efficient means of occupant restraint and the fitment of an active bonnet which ‘pops-up’ due to a pyrotechnic triggering system and, therefore, limits the degree of injury a pedestrian is likely to suffer in the event of a collision.

The RCZ goes on sale in Spring 2010.
