Electric-powered rear and four wheel-drive variants of the Porsche Boxster E roadster sparked interest last week at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Berlin.

Porsche was demonstrating its Boxster E prototypes to a wide audience of representatives from politics, industry, trade and research at this global forum for sustainable mobility in the German capital. Around a sporting circuit, the Porsche showcased the Boxster E sports car concept; exhibiting the combination of innovation, performance and chassis responsiveness that is characteristic of the marque, and follows similar ground-breaking initiatives; the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car, 918 Spyder super sports car and 918 RSR concept. NEW BLACK EDITION PORSCHE CAYMAN S

The new Porsche Cayman S Black Edition combines performance and style, with a 3.4-litre flat-six engine tuned to deliver 330 hp, distinctive 19” alloy wheels finished in black and a luxurious interior. Production is limited to 500 examples worldwide, and UK sales begin in September.

The extra power is produced at 7,400 rpm (an additional 200 rpm vs the standard car), while the maximum torque remains unchanged at 370Nm at 4,750 rpm. This extra horsepower feeds directly through into the performance of the all-black mid-engined two–seater. Acceleration from 0-62 mph is improved by a tenth of a second to 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission, and to 5.0 seconds with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) respectively. With the Launch Control activated on the PDK Sport Chrono package option, acceleration improves further to 4.8 seconds. Continue Reading

PORSCHE PANAMERA DIESEL WITH RANGE IN EXCESS OF 745 MILES

On sale from August 2011, the Porsche Panamera range extends with the introduction of the new Panamera Diesel, further enhancing the model’s appeal to UK customers.  A luxury Gran Turismo, the Panamera Diesel is capable of taking four passengers in sporting comfort from Lands End to Loch Ness without refuelling.

Coping effortlessly with short bursts of speed and cross country touring, this long distance sporting performance is delivered by the smooth-running 3.0-litre V6 engine with a rated output of 250 hp (184 kW) achieved between 3,800 rpm and 4,400 rpm. The maximum torque of 550 Nm, available all the way from 1,750 rpm to 2,750 rpm, delivers high pulling power. It is exclusively available with rear-wheel drive and uses a highly efficient eight-speed Tiptronic S as standard. The six-cylinder turbo diesel engine powers the new Gran Turismo from 0 to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 150 mph. Continue Reading
