For 2012, Mégane has undergone a number of small styling changes to freshen up the model’s original lines. The front end has a more modern feel, while LED daytime running lights provide a distinctive new lighting signature. The bumper features a gloss black finish with chrome highlights, and the selection of wheels has been entirely revised. The sum of these modifications mirrors the attention that has been paid to quality, an area which Renault sees as a priority.

Meanwhile, the cabin comes with new interior trims, including a two-tone leather pack available in a choice of two finishes in the UK. The personality of the specific GT-Line finishes has also been enhanced inside and out thanks to specific ‘boomerang’-shaped LED lights, visible red upholstery stitching and a sports steering wheel incorporating thumb rests, plus Renault Sport-badged door sill guards and dashboard trim strip, serving as a reminder that it belongs to the Renaultsport family. Last but not least, the list of body colours available for Mégane 2012 has been extended with the addition of Azzurro Blue and Arctic White.

Mégane 2012: ‘Stop and Start’ downsized engine power
Mégane 2012 is the first Renault model to be available with the three new Stop & Start engines which combine both motoring enjoyment and fuel efficiency. They are the fruit of new-generation downsizing and call on Renault’s experience in F1 to form unprecedented technology packages for this level of range, including Stop & Start complete with deceleration/braking energy recovery. Thanks to their carefully-tuned acoustics, these engines produce a discreet, cushioned sound, with noise levels halved compared with the engines they replace.

Renault TCe 115 Stop & Start – the return of petrol engines: the TCe 115 is the first Renault petrol engine to feature direct fuel injection and turbocharging for fuel-efficient performance. This new 1,198cc block is poised to replace the 1.6 16V and boasts both extra power (up 5hp to 115hp) and peak torque up 40Nm to 190Nm, with 90 per cent of this figure available from 1,650rpm. Its flexibility and acceleration from low revs are consequently similar to those of a diesel engine. In addition to being the market’s best-performing 1.2-litre petrol powerplant, the Renault TCe 115 Stop & Start is particularly energy efficient, with fuel consumption down 25 per cent. Versions of Mégane 2012 powered by this engine consume just 53.3 mpg (combined cycle), a record for a petrol car in this class. CO2 emissions are down to 119g/km, while the car’s range is in the region of 620 miles, which is similar to the distances associated with diesel models.

Mégane 2012 will also be available with the two best diesel engines in their class, both of which combine driving pleasure with the market’s lowest fuel consumption.

New diesel dCi 110 Stop & Start: the Mégane range’s best-selling 1.5 dCi engine has undergone a significant metamorphosis with the introduction of technology first introduced in 2011 on the 1.6 dCi 130, not to mention record low fuel consumption which has been improved by 15 per cent to 80.7 mpg. This is equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 90g/km and makes Mégane one of its segment’s top three models in terms of energy efficiency. There has been no corresponding fall-off in performance, however, since peak torque is up 20Nm to 260Nm, which is available from as low as 1,750rpm.

Renault dCi 130 Stop & Start: this 1.6-litre diesel engine delivers 130 horsepower and 320Nm of torque, making it one of the market’s most powerful powerplants for its size. It is also a pleasure to drive thanks to crisp acceleration performance from as low as 1,750rpm. Under the bonnet of Mégane, it returns combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 70.6 mpg, which is a 20 per cent saving compared to the former 1.9 dCi 130 engine. CO2 emissions stand at 104g/km.

Useful, affordable technologies
More than ever, enhancing everyday safety, making driving easier and maximising travelling comfort are seen as priorities for Renault.

Like Renault Scénic and Grand Scénic, Mégane 2012 can be ordered with the Visio System®which comprises a camera fixed to the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. It improves night-time vision and helps maintain driver vigilance thanks to two functions which it is the first system of its type to feature.

Automatically switches from main- to dipped-beam headlights:night-time driving calls for total vigilance, especially when it comes to optimising lighting in order to benefit from maximum visibility without being a hindrance for other road users. The Visio System® camera improves night-time vision by permanently scanning the road ahead. Whenever natural or street lighting is poor, and when no other vehicles are detected, it automatically switches to full-beam headlights at speeds of more than 28 mph. Remembering to switch back to dipped beam is no longer a constraint and the Visio System®permits the driver to benefit from full-beam headlights between four and five times longer than is the case without the system. Visibility is enhanced (100 metres instead of 30 metres) and there is less risk of colliding with an obstacle.

Lane departure warning: the camera emits a warning if it believes that the vehicle has involuntarily changed lanes, an occurrence frequently due to drowsiness or a drop in driver vigilance, and a major cause of accidents, especially on motorways. If lane markings are crossed without the indicators having been being activated, visible and audible warnings are automatically activated.

Comfort has been further enhanced by a new Hill Start Assist function. This feature is combined with the electronic parking brake and keeps the brakes under pressure for a few seconds, giving the driver enough time to pull away without the vehicle moving backwards. Meanwhile, Motorway Mode indicators facilitate driving: a slight touch of the indicator stalk sets off three flashes to warn other road users that the driver is about to change lane. To assist parking manoeuvres, a camera located at the rear provides a precise image of the vehicle’s immediate surroundings and depicts its trajectory to help drivers adjust their line. Last but not least, the dual-zone automatic climate control is now equipped with a quality sensor which monitors cabin air quality and automatically activates the air-recycling mode whenever necessary.

Mégane 2012 continues to pack the technologies that have contributed to the model’s success. All radios are now equipped with Bluetooth® hands-free telephony, connectivity and audio-streaming, as well as multi-functional TunePoint and USB/jack sockets which enable music stored on mobile devices to be controlled by the vehicle’s steering wheel-mounted fingertip control. Also available are Carminat TomTom® navigation complete with LIVE services (HD Traffic, real-time traffic information, etc.) and tailor-engineered Bose® surround sound.

Renault Mégane: the flagship of Renault’s Quality drive
Mégane 2012 cars are manufactured in Palencia, Spain, and benefit from rigorous production standards to guarantee impeccable quality. The model recently featured in a media campaign promoting quality ‘à la française’ and is destined to serve as a global flagship for the Renault group’s expertise in this domain across the entire range, from initial design to the showroom.

Jean-Pierre Vallaude (Senior Vice-President, Quality): “Mégane is a credible ambassador for the quality of Renault vehicles thanks to its outstanding reliability and perceived quality which have improved with every evolution of the model. Mégane is destined to become the worldwide quality benchmark for all Renault vehicles…”

As the Renault brand’s best-selling model, with sales exceeding 235,000 units worldwide in 2011 and 730,000 units since its launch at the end of 2008, Mégane today stands out as one of the most reliable cars in its class. This reliability is recognised by the media (e.g. L’Automobile Magazine’s Reliability Top 100) and has been underlined by independent bodies such as Germany’s ADAC which have placed it at the top end of their respective classifications.

Following the pledge to continue improving made by Renault in 2003, Mégane III saw a 40 per cent reduction in reliability-related incidents during a car’s first year on the road compared to its predecessor.

Mégane III has benefited from reinforced design and validation processes which take both durability and ageing into account. At the design phase, for example, a list of 100 specific points was taken into account to ensure impeccable reliability and improve running- and appearance durability compared to Mégane II. Special attention was paid to reducing noise, improving sealing and the reliability of electronic components.

Mégane Renaultsport 265: extra horsepower and more torque for even punchier performance
Mégane Renaultsport 265’s ‘Renaultsport Dynamic Management’ delivers 15 extra horsepower and 20Nm additional torque. By selecting the Sport Mode, the driver can benefit from peak power of 265hp and up to 360Nm of torque for even crisper acceleration response. Thanks to this Renaultsport innovation, it is possible to use Mégane Renaultsport 265’s potential to the full, notably on tracks. At the same time, the sound produced by Mégane Renaultsport.’s engine has been revised to ensure a satisfying pitch at all revs thanks a more open exhaust design and a reinforced sound pipe.

In terms of looks, the front end is more expressive, while the F1-style front blade which is a characteristic of Renaultsport models features two rows of six LEDs and the headlights sport black surrounds. The centre of the new design 18-inch alloy wheels (satin finish or matt black) as well as the 19-inch wheels, feature an ‘R.S.’ logo, and a new option is the Renaultsport Red Design Pack which comprises red striping for the front blade, side sills and diffuser. A new interior trim has been introduced, featuring visible red stitching for the steering wheel, dashboard trim, gearlever knob and surround. The new, distinctive two-tone light grey and charcoal leather upholstery can also be specified as an option, as can fabric or leather Recaro seats and a predominantly yellow ambience. Other sporty details include a black lacquer finish for the centre console and air vent surrounds, plus a charcoal-effect finish for the door panel inserts.

Thanks to its exceptional dynamic qualities, Mégane Renaultsport stands out as the C segment’s best-selling high-performance coupé. It has won over 12,500 buyers worldwide since its European launch in January 2010, as well as in Russia, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Japan and South Africa. In June 2011, it established a new record of 8mins 8secs for a lap of the Nürburgring, making it the fastest front-wheel drive car ever round the ‘Nordschleife’. Acclaimed by the world’s press, Mégane Renaultsport has won four awards and is frequently compared to the most prestigious super cars for the driving sensations it delivers. Renaultsport has also showcased Mégane Renaultsport’s potential in motorsport with the production-based N4 which won its class in the Belgian and Germany rally championships.

Energy engines: Renault’s technological excellence in F1 carried over to road car engines for the benefit of all motorists
“F1 provides us with an extraordinary proving ground to test new technologies in extreme conditions,” says Carlos Tavares, Renault’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our 30-year commitment to the sport has enabled us to develop our downsizing expertise, combat friction and control cooling, all of which contribute to improving the energy efficiency of our vehicles without spoiling driving enjoyment.”

With ten Constructors’ world titles to its name, Renault called on talent from the world of Formula 1 to carry over the technological excellence acquired on the race track to the development of its new range of diesel Stop & Start engines. Philippe Coblence and Jean-Philippe Mercier, the men behind the success of Renault’s V10 in the 1990s, were entrusted with the engineering development of the new 1.6 dCi 130 and 1.2 TCe 115 engines. Their skill has benefited road cars by taking the concept of downsizing to new limits thanks to solutions tried and tested in F1. These engines boast an unprecedented technological package for this level of range and have led to fuel consumption savings of up to 25 per cent compared to the engines they replace.

Ahead of its UK launch next February, Renault has released initial details for the freshly revitalised Scénic and Grand Scénic models for 2012, including sharper designs, the brand debut of two impressive downsized engines and numerous equipment enhancements.

Scenic 2012 – contemporary lines with a sharper look
Since its summer launch in 2009, the fluid lines and generous interior dimensions of the two-model Scénic line-up have continued to attract a wide range of buyers. Just over two years on, Renault has sought to build on the appeal of Europe’s best-selling compact MPV, with a series of exterior upgrades. Among them are a revised front end which is both modern and status enhancing, while its new rear lights add a particularly dynamic touch.

The changes continue with the fitment of LED daytime running lights, gloss black features and chrome details (at the front, plus tailgate strip and side moulding strip), plus a new range of wheel trims and alloy wheels. Grand Scénic’s more contemporary front end provides a more imposing look. Two new body colours will also be available, Azzurro Blue and Damask Red.

New downsized engines for greater performance and fuel efficiency
Renault’s work on driving down emissions, combined with ever-improving fuel economy and performance through smaller cubic capacity engine innovation has borne more fruit. Following the trend begun by the petrol 1.4 TCe 130 and 1.5 dCi 110, and most recently the arrival of the 1.6 dCi 130, the world’s most powerful and frugal diesel engine of its size, Scenic welcomes two new engines. The first, 1.5 dCi 110 Stop & Start, is an enhanced version of the French marque’s core diesel engine. Benefitting from several clever technologies derived from Formula 1 (Stop & Start, brake energy regeneration), it combines record low CO2 emissions of 105 grams per kilometre (reduced by 23g/km), and a 12 per cent saving in fuel consumption (up 11.3 mpg to 68.9), yet higher torque (260Nm at 1,750rpm; a gain of 20Nm) compared with the existing 1.5 dCi 110.

From spring 2012, the five- and seven-seater versions of Scénic will also be the first Renaults to receive the brand new 1.2 TCe 115 petrol engine. Due to gradually replace the 1.6 VVT 110, it offers low CO2 emissions (135g/km), 190Nm of torque (up 39Nm) and fuel consumption improved by a fifth, up 11.4 mpg to 49.6.

Joining them will be the highly acclaimed 1.6 dCi 130 Stop & Start, which itself boasts 20% better fuel consumption than its former 1.9 dCi 130 stablemate, together with greater performance and even lower emissions.

Thanks to these engines, Scénic and Grand Scénic will each play an important part in achieving Renault’s target to become Europe’s number one manufacturer with regard to the CO2 emissions of its range, without detracting from performance. They also highlight that the French brand’s proven powertrain excellence is still clearly evident as its relentless electric vehicle rollout begins in earnest.

Affordable technologies – improved comfort and a more reassuring ride
Enhanced everyday safety, making life for drivers as hassle-free as possible and maximising wellbeing for those on board continue to be priorities for Renault. Scénic and Grand Scénic will be the first Renault models to feature the Visio System by Renault which assists the driver’s vigilance and night-time vision thanks to two key functions. This latest innovation by the French brand combines a lane departure warning system (a camera detects if the drivers strays out of lane and triggers an audible signal) and an automatic headlight function (the same camera detects the lights of nearby vehicles and/or the presence of street lighting to automatically switch from dipped to main beam, and vice versa).

Driving and travelling comfort have been further enhanced by the addition of new features which come as standard equipment. As its name suggests, Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when pulling away on a slope, while motorway-mode indicators warn other motorists when the driver is about to change lanes by flashing three times following a simple flick of the indicator stalk.

The 2012 versions of Scénic and Grand Scénic also carry over technologies that have helped forge the model’s success to date, from the tailor-engineered sound of the Bose® audio system to Carminat TomTom® navigation and associated LIVE services (HD Traffic, etc.).

Renault Scénic and Grand Scénic: Europe’s number one compact MPV
Scénic and Grand Scénic, are manufactured in Douai, in northern France, where they benefit from the most exacting production standards to guarantee the highest level of quality. Together, they top their segment in Europe, with sales in excess of 400,000 examples since the launch of the current generation at the end of 2009. Just shy of 3.9 million Scénics have found homes since it took the market by storm in 1996.

Further details on Scenic 2012 range pricing and specification will be released closer to launch. UK order books are set to open on 1st February 2012, ahead of first deliveries in March.

With 104 points out of a possible 168, Kangoo Van Z.E. has won the coveted International Van of the Year prize, beating the Iveco Daily, Fiat Ducato and VW Caddy. The award was presented to Jean-Marie Hurtiger, Director of Renault’s Light Commercial Vehicle division, on the eve of the 14th International Trailer Show in Belgium. Jury chairman Pieter Wieman explained: “With the Kangoo Van Z.E. Renault brings the electric van within the reach of the normal European van user,” he said, “thereby delivering a major contribution to environmental sustainability, one of the most important issues of the transport of goods by road nowadays.”

Jean-Marie Hurtiger said: “This prize rewards the work of the people at Renault who have worked for several years on the Kangoo Van Z.E., one of Renault’s four electric vehicles to be launched in the next 10 months. All of the company’s functions were involved in the adventure, including the design office, the Maubeuge plant and sales. They met the challenge in a remarkable manner, showing determination, creativity and, above all, an excellent team spirit that has now produced results.”

Kangoo Van Z.E., a light commercial vehicle by Renault
Renault, the European leader in light commercial vehicles since 1998, has extended its line-up with Kangoo Van Z.E., the 100% electric version of Kangoo. It is the first fully-electric van produced entirely in-house by a vehicle manufacturer.

By fitting the battery under the floor of Kangoo Van Z.E., Renault has kept the same load capacity and dimensions as the internal-combustion version. Its engineers have also worked hard to retain the same 650kg payload. Kangoo Van Z.E. comes in two lengths and three versions, all of them produced at the MCA Maubeuge plant in France on the same line as its internal-combustion engine sister: Kangoo Van Z.E. and the two- and five-seat Kangoo Van Z.E. Maxis. This range responds to the varied needs of business users, with load volume ranging from 3 m3 to 4.6 m3 and the flexibility to carry goods and passengers

The first widely-accessible Z.E.
Kangoo Van Z.E. is the first of four vehicles in the Renault Z.E. range to be launched in the next 12 months. It arrives in UK dealerships on 1st December priced from £16,990 excluding VAT. The battery is hired for a monthly fee with a variety of mileage and duration permutations. For example, a 3 year/12,000 miles per annum contract is £74 per month excluding VAT.

Just released and already winning acolades
The International Van of the Year is the culmination if a series of prizes rewarding Kangoo Van Z.E. Following Van of the Year in Denmark, voted by a jury of motoring journalists, and Fleet Transport Green Commercial in Ireland, selected by the Fleet Transport Awards jury of experts, it’s the third trophy won so far by Kangoo Van Z.E. in Europe.

The choice of matt Stealth Grey or Diavolo Red is contrasted by a gloss black finish to the roof, rear spoiler, F1-style front blade, rear diffuser and door mirrors. This gloss black finish is also applied to the 18” ‘Interlagos’ alloy wheels, one inch larger diameter than the standard 200 wheels. These are fitted with Bridgestone RE 050A tyres, as used on the record-breaking Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy. Naturally, the acclaimed Cup chassis is standard featuring a lower ride height, stiffer springs and dampers, quicker steering ratio and red finish to the Brembo brake callipers. The exterior finish is rounded off by extra-tinted rear side and tailgate windows and a Raider badge.

A warm interior welcomes the driver. Leather upholstered Recaro seats are complimented by the zinc grey finish to the centre console and fascia inserts. Contrasting with this is a white rev counter. Bluetooth, USB connectivity, automatic climate control and Renaultsport carpet mats are also fitted. A numbered plate identifies the number in the 50 production run. Customers can order their Raider with a no cost choice of either Renaultsport Monitor – Renaultsport’s on-board telemetry system – or Carminat TomTom Live satellite navigation.

The Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider will be available to order from the end of October when further details and pricing will be announced.

The first arrivals from Renault’s Z.E. family are nearly here and eager buyers and showgoers in general will get the first chance to get up close and even drive the eagerly-awaited fully-electric Fluence Z.E. saloon at a public show for the first time at EcoVelocity, 8th to 11th September at Battersea Power Station.

The stylish five-seater, the UK’s most affordable electric car, will be taking pride of place on the French marque’s stand with Kangoo Van Z.E. during the four-day eco motoring festival. Renault will be offering test drives around the dedicated show circuit in the shadow of the former power station in two Fluence Z.E. and one Kangoo Van Z.E. There will also be two further Kangoos on static display, with a team of Renault EV specialists on hand to answer any questions about enjoying the cost and eco-living benefits of running electric vehicles.

The Fluence Z.E. is a four-door saloon that goes on sale in the UK during the first half of 2012, priced from only £17,850 on-the-road after the deduction of the £5,000 Plug-In Car Grant. Renault’s innovative battery hire model via RCI Financial Services, which for Fluence Z.E. costs from £69.60 per month including VAT (based on 6,000 miles per year and a 3 year agreement), also removes any concerns about battery longevity and replacement cost.

Combining the comfort, safety, style and practicality of a traditional saloon, with the low running costs of an electric vehicle, Fluence Z.E. is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. It also comes well-equipped with 16” alloys, auto lights and wipers, climate control, cruise control, ecoMeter and Carminat TomTom smart satellite navigation. Unlike electric cars of old, it’s also quiet, smooth and refined to drive, with excellent performance from its 70kW (95hp) motor, with 226Nm torque and a range of up to 115 miles.

Joining Fluence Z.E. will be Renault’s Kangoo Van Z.E., the world’s first electric van produced by a mass-market manufacturer. The affordable business tool is available in two-seat Kangoo Van and Maxi guise, or five-seat Crew Van, priced from only £16,990 excluding VAT. Monthly battery hire starts at £62 per month based on 9,000 miles per year and a four-year agreement.

Designed for businesses doing every type of collection or delivery journey, whether it be rural, suburban or inner city, it offers the same carrying capacity (ranging from 3 to 3.5m3), payload (650kg) and high standard of comfort as its equivalent internal-combustion-engined versions.

Information on Renault’s other two electric vehicles launching next year – the unique two-seat Twizy and chic ZOE supermini, will also be available.

Andy Heiron, Renault UK’s Head of Electric Vehicles, said, “Renault is the only manufacturer to offer a full range of affordable electric vehicles. With our first Z.E. due to hit the UK’s roads in a matter of weeks, we’re delighted to be showing off two of the family at EcoVelocity, so that people can see, touch and drive what we believe is the start of a new era in motoring.

“We’re sure that everyone who gets behind the wheel will agree with many motoring journalists and industry experts who have rated the performance, space and lack of noise very highly on both models.”

Renault has made no qualms about its relentless pursuit of quality in recent years, for both product and service. Indeed, quality is at the very heart of its business, as emphasised by Chairman and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, speaking at the launch of Renault Commitment 2009, when he stated that the objective for the next-generation Laguna would be top three in its class for quality, including premium brands.

In its new strategic plan, Renault Drive the Change 2016, quality remains a priority and is one of the three pillars among Design and Innovation in the strengthening of Renault’s brand image. The French marque also now includes a ‘Renault Quality Made’ stamp on all of its communications to emphasise this key focus.

Renault’s product quality is improving consistently – fact

In the last few years, Renault has boosted the quality of its products significantly. In fact, results from third-party organisations such as Auto Express and Which?, speak for themselves.

Renault has publicly acknowledged the electronic issues which affected some of its older models, including the second-generation Mégane and Laguna, principally concerning certain electric window mechanisms and early- generation electronic instrument displays. However, it has not shied away from the issues and implemented an extensive customer goodwill programme to cover such concerns.

Now in the last couple of years, the positive quality trend which Renault has seen for itself from internal data, including its greater standing versus its rivals, has begun to be mirrored by the results in independent surveys.

The most recent UK independent study, the Which? car survey 2011, shows no less than four current Renault models in the top five in their classes for reliability: Clio, Grand Modus, Mégane and Scénic. On top of that, the current Scénic sits proudly in fourth for MPV overall customer satisfaction, with its compact MPV sibling, Grand Modus not too far behind in sixth. The UK’s largest and arguably most influential consumer organisation also now highlights Clio, Mégane, Scénic and Laguna all as ‘Worth a look’. Rounding off the plaudits, the consumer champions testify, “Renault’s drive to improve quality seems to be paying dividends, as reliability is much improved.”

But we’re not just talking about one isolated study.

In the last two years alone, Renault has risen significantly in successive Driver Power surveys from Auto Express too. Previously sat towards the bottom of the table for its products, its sterling efforts saw it rise an impressive seven places in 2010 out of 35 brands, then built on the progress again this year by a further three places. As the real-world experiences of its customers owning the latest Renault models continues to filter through, the French marque is expecting its standing to rise even further in the coming years.

Quality matters – for service, as well as product

“Today, quality of service is one of the elements of competition; in the future, this will be the main element of competition.” Carlos Ghosn, February 2009.

As well as making great strides in product quality, the French marque is going the extra mile with its dealer network. As a result, Renault has put into place a series of initiatives in this country to achieve one simple, but nevertheless often difficult, objective – improve customer satisfaction. The result of this is evident in theimpressive rise of 16 places for dealer satisfaction seen in the last two Auto Express Driver Power surveys.

Its latest action, an internet-based dealer rating system, to be introduced in September 2011, is arguably its most ambitious yet. Located on www.renault.co.uk, and similar in spirit to other successful review sites, it will communicate the individual satisfaction ratings of each of the approximate 4,500 Renault customers interviewed each month. The satisfaction rating, together with the actual customer verbatim, will be available to view for both sales and service customers for each of Renault UK’s dealerships.

Another wide-reaching programme is the dealership improvement programme, which concentrates on enhancing the performance of the least performing 20% of its UK dealers, with the objective of improving customer experience within the dealership.

With each dealership, Performance Managers with broad experience of the automotive business, go into the business to diagnose why it is not providing the levels of experience required by Renault customers. Proudly, and no doubt one of the reasons behind the French marque’s climb in recent customer survey dealer rankings, is its success rate of over three-quarters for dealers who enter the programme successfully graduating.

Renault has also invested heavily in improving the whole-life customer experience. Launched in 2006 was E4: Excellence, everyone, everywhere, everytime’, which was created to ensure Renault stood out through the quality of its customer service, leading to improved loyalty and profitability. Identified after extensive European research with hundreds of customer interviews, E4 focuses on 20 essentials that the dealer network have been provided with, 10 for Sales and 10 specifically for After-Sales.

‘E4’ is part of the five point ‘Renault Excellence Plan’ which are company-wide objectives to improve quality on a global scale. These are to design robust vehicles, manufacture compliant vehicles, increase reliability for all types of use, ensure sales and after-sales quality and instill a culture of quality in the company.

After investing their time and resources in all of these projects, Renault fittingly seeks to recognise its dealership network’s efforts through its annual Renault Global Quality Awards.

Renault Business Promise, successfully launched a year ago to ensure that business customers of every fleet size, have three years guaranteed care-free mobility, through the most complete manufacturer care package comprising warranty, recovery, servicing and delivery promises, is soon to be followed by a similar programme for retail customers. Set to launch on 1st January 2012, the Renault Quality Commitment, will guarantee that the quality of a customer’s car or van is mirrored by the high level of service they receive from Renault.

Together with the Renault Business Promise, and another reason why the French manufacturer has secured two high-profile fleet awards in less than a year for improving its fleet performance through its clever customer-centric ideas, is Renault Pro+. Launched 18 months ago, this one-stop shop for business customers has gone from strength to strength, hardly surprising given several of its core benefits: extended opening and service hours, specialist business sales and after-sales advisors, larger commercial vehicle demonstrator numbers and displays including converted products and dedicated business customer areas.

The last piece of the jigsaw in terms of enhancing the Renault customer experience is ‘Project Air’. This far-reaching initiative involves completely upgrading the interior and exterior of a dealership in line with the ‘Drive the Change’ brand identity. It covers every customer-facing aspect of the business, including new fixtures, fittings, floors and lighting to give a contemporary, airy and light feeling, in line with the French marque’s affinity with stylish design.

Currently a fifth of UK dealerships have benefited from the programme and customer feedback has been overwhelming positive. The rest of the core Renault network will be completed by the end of 2014.

Just weeks after widening the Wind Roadster range to include an enticingly affordable 1.2-litre version, the burgeoning Gordini line-up now takes in two extra Clios, priced from £14,000.

The Gordini range has proved an immense hit, as illustrated by the success of Clio Gordini which accounts for 27 per cent of overall Clio Renaultsport sales in Europe and over 10 per cent in the UK.

Enabling UK buyers to get the look and feel of the 200hp flagship Gordini, but with lower fuel consumption, emissions and running costs, including insurance, the latest incarnations of the iconic Gordini badge debut in three-door form, with the petrol 1.6 VVT 128 and diesel 1.5 dCi 106.

Adding a little extra ‘Va Va Voom’ to Renault’s best-selling model range, the petrol model welcomes the rev-loving engine from the former GT, itself slightly detuned from the grin-inducing Twingo Renaultsport 133. In the warmed over Clio, it gives lively performance of 0-62 mph in 9.3 seconds, combined with an impressive 42.2 mpg on the combined cycle. The Clio Gordini 128 costs £14,000 on-the-road.

The second version with the ‘French Touch’ comes with the acclaimed 1.5 dCi 106 and costs £14,950. Nippy thanks to its compact dimensions and lively performance, the newcomer is equally at home on the open road as it is in the urban environment, thanks to its standard six-speed gearbox. It is capable of a fuel-sipping 62.8 mpg on the combined cycle, or at the other end of the performance spectrum, 119 mph. Emitting only 110g CO2, it is also free from road fund licence and only £20 in the second year.

Unsurprisingly, whichever engine buyers opt for, each version retains the usual Gordini styling cues. On the outside, its unmistakable personality comes by way of twin white racing stripes across the bonnet, roof and tailgate. Adding to its sense of visual drama are co-ordinating white electric folding door mirrors and front bumper strip, Gordini badges, 16” Turini alloy wheels, body colour rear spoiler and twin tailpipe exhausts.

Other external enhancements come by way of body coloured side mouldings and door handles, extra tinted side and rear windows, front fog lights and fixed cornering lights.

On the inside, luxurious touches and creature comforts abound. The Gordini touches begin with grey cloth upholstery with Gordini logo (grey or blue leather are optional and blue cloth is a no-cost option), leather Gordini steering wheel with grey detail and white stripe, Gordini satin chrome effect gearknob with blue Gordini badge and black surround with satin chrome gaiter lever. Other upmarket elements include gloss black detailing for the centre console and dash and air vent surrounds, plus a white rev counter.

Naturally, both newcomers come highly-equipped. Among the standard specification are 4x20W radio CD with aux input and fingertip remote controls, auto lights and wipers, climate control, cruise control, front curtain airbags and speed limiter.

In keeping with their upmarket pretensions, the two new versions can be upgraded with several options, including Carminat TomTom satellite navigation, multi-functional TunePoint or electric panoramic sunroof.

Optional metallic paint comes in Malta Blue, Pearl Black and Ruby Red. The standard body colour, Glacier White, features contrasting anthracite grey Gordini racing stripes, door mirrors and front bumper insert.

The countdown to Renault’s unprecedented wave of electric vehicles has already begun, but proving that it is still developing some of the finest internal combustion engines, its latest state-of-the-art diesel has propelled the Scenic to victory at the Next Green Car Awards 2011.

The Renault Scénic 1.6 dCi Stop-Start won the gold award in the MPV section of the honours that are considered to be the most scientifically-based green car awards in the UK, all selected for their environmental “green car rating”, level of innovation, value, drive experience and design.

Judges selected the latest version of Renault’s high-selling family car as the winner of the MPV category for its low CO2 emissions of just 115 g/km and for its frugality, with up to 64.2 mpg achievable on the combined cycle. They said, “Not only is the new stop-start Renault Scénic well-equipped with all the versatility needed of an MPV, it has great fuel economy and handling – all at a very reasonable price.”

The Renault Scénic 1.6 dCi Stop-Start is highly economical to run, with lower tax and fuel costs, plus a benefit-in-kind rating of just 13%. In spite of its fuel-sipping nature, performance has not been compromised, with 0-62mph possible in just 10.3 seconds.

Adding to the plaudits for Renault’s environmental focus, the eagerly-anticipated Fluence Z.E. saloon and new 94 g/km ‘Eco’ Clio also took Commended respectively in the Next Generation and Supermini sections.

Dr Ben Lane, Managing Editor of Next Green Car said: “The 2011 winners reflect the latest technologies being used by manufacturers to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, which range from the clean-diesel innovations such as ‘stop-start’, ‘regen-braking’ and catalysed particulate filters.”

Renault UK’s Marketing Director, Phil York, added: “We’re delighted to be accepting this award from Next Green Car for our best-selling MPV. The brand new 1.6 dCi 130 is the most powerful diesel engine of its size on sale today and yet has the lowest CO2 and fuel consumption of any MPV on the market.

“Since it was launched at the Paris Motor Show last autumn, there has been a lot of interest in both five- and seven-seat versions fitted with this innovative engine. Such is its success, that we’re looking to extend its use on other Renault models.”

As Britain continues to enjoy another *tropical summer, Renault’s Wind Roadster has ushered in a new Gordini flagship, as well as shed a few pounds for the summer. Up to £2,215 to be precise.

Timed perfectly to coincide with open-air summer driving and the imminent arrival of the two new Gordini versions, Renault has also reduced the list price of Dynamique and GT Line versions of its coupé-roadster, making the entry-level version now just £12,995. Of course, should the heavens open, the chic two-seater is more than capable of coping, thanks to its ingenious roof which rotates closed in only 12 seconds.

The third Gordini to join the fold, in Wind Roadster guise, it welcomes the trademark Malta Blue metallic paint with twin white Gordini stripes (Pearl Black and Glacier White are no cost options. White versions come with chrome effect bodywork detailing), plus the usual Gordini badges on the side pillars. Adding to the exterior style with the ‘French Touch’, both the 1.2 and 1.6 versions benefit from white door mirrors, grille trim and cowls, 17-inch alloy wheels with a polished face and gloss black inserts.

The upmarket theme continues in the cockpit-style cabin with Gordini blue and dark grey leather seats with embossed Gordini logo, numbered Gordini plaque (1-200), satin chrome effect gearknob with blue Gordini badge and blue gearstick surround.

Complementing the Gordini touches is a high standard specification, including Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, multi-functional TunePoint for USB connections and Thatcham category 1 alarm.

The latest version can also be upgraded with three key options. The most eye-catching is a Renaultsport exhaust for £450 (1.6 only), joined by 17-inch Gordini alloy wheels with polished face and blue inserts, plus a wind deflector for £200.

The revised prices for the full Wind Roadster range are already in place, making the entertaining and well-specified coupé-roadster an even more tempting proposition.

Ahead of its world debut next weekend at the World Series by Renault, Nurburgring meeting in Germany, the French marque has unveiled its fastest ever road car, the Mégane Renaultsport 265 Trophy.

Priced in the UK at £27,820 on-the-road, the new Mégane Renaultsport flagship arrives ready to take the fight to its VW Group rivals, including the Golf and Scirocco R stablemates, with a 15hp hike on the current Mégane Renaultsport, plus an extra 20Nm torque.

Naturally, as a result of its greater power compared to the standard 250hp versions, it boasts improved performance statistics. The newcomer dispatches 0-62mph in six seconds exactly (instead of 6.1), with a top speed of 158 mph, up by an extra 2mph. In everyday driving, its 360Nm is usefully available across a broad rev band between 3,000 and 5,000rpm. Its impressive power-to-weight ratio is 191hp per tonne.

To achieve these gains, Renaultsport’s wizardry has seen the engine’s maximum turbo pressure uprated to 2.5 bar, up by 0.2, together with the air intake being revised to take account of the higher pressure and running temperatures.

In the UK, the latest addition comes based on the Cup chassis version, but also adds, unsurprisingly, even more core equipment, including Recaro seats with yellow seatbelts and detailing, Renaultsport Monitor on-board performance tracking and a UK numbered plaque. In keeping with its focused nature, there is just a single option, a gloss Renault i.d. Diamond Black roof at £415.

As part of its enticing price, new owners of the 265 Trophy also gain free access to the full 2012 Renaultsport UK trackday calendar, worth around £650, giving them the opportunity to revel in the track-bred qualities of the ultimate roadgoing Mégane Renaultsport around some of the country’s finest circuits, including Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

In keeping with its enticing performance, the 265 Trophy boasts distinctive looks. In the rare moments when it is being driven sedately enough to be glimpsed, the top-of-the-range Mégane Renaultsport will be instantly recognisable through its striking combination of gloss black 19″ Speedline alloys with red rim, high-performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres, ‘Trophy’ red decals on the F1-style front blade and doors, and LED daytime running lights. Adding to its sense of visual drama, the 265 Trophy welcomes the return of Liquid Yellow i.d. metallic paint, reborn from its original use on the Clio Renaultsport 182 and V6 255, and latterly on the R26 and R26.R. Black metallic paint is the only other colour available, which, set off by red highlights on the car’s decals and alloy wheels, is likely to be sought after by for those seeking one of the most menacing, stealth-like hot hatches around.

In its reinforced armoury, the newcomer also features new Formula 1-inspired high-performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A as seen on a plethora of the world’s finest sports cars and supercars. Their asymmetric, directional tread pattern and the form of its tread blocks provide outstanding grip, stability and acoustic comfort, regardless of conditions. Indeed, the outer part of the tread is similar to racing ‘slicks’, while the inner section is modeled on F1 wet-weather tyres.

Elsewhere, the new 265 Trophy retains the essence of the Mégane Renaultsport’s award-winning recipe, including the critically acclaimed Cup chassis (stiffer springs, dampers and anti-roll bar and grooved brake discs), mechanical limited slip differential, Brembo brakes, as well as the innovative PerfoHub independent steering axis front suspension set-up, which virtually eliminates torque steer.

The new Mégane Renaultsport 265 Trophy is available to order from 20th June, priced £27,820 on-the-road, with first deliveries in late July 2011. In addition to aggressive pricing, exclusivity is assured for the flagship Mégane, through a limited production run of only 500 examples worldwide, 50 of which are destined for the UK.

Following its world debut at the Paris Motor Show last autumn, Renault is now opening ordering for its new state-of-the-art 1.6-litre 130hp ‘Energy’ diesel engine. Initially available on Dynamique TomTom versions of Scénic and Grand Scénic, pricing starts at £20,900 on-the-road.

At a time of spiralling fuel prices, its arrival for cash-strapped families and business drivers in particular, couldn’t be more timely.

In the five- and seven-seat versions of the Scénic family, the Energy dCi 130 offers the lowest emissions and best fuel economy and performance of any MPV powered by a similar-sized engine in the UK.

Compared to the former 1.9-litre diesel with the same power, the newcomer boasts CO2 emissions slashed by more than a fifth, from 149 to 115 grams per kilometre. In the process, its BIK rating drops to only 13%, from 21%, while the savings add up even further with no VED (down to Band C from F, saving £125) in the first year, and £95 in subsequent years. Rounding off the engine’s array of talents, its combined fuel economy is an impressive 64.2 mpg, an increase of a quarter.

The latest powerplant addition builds on the success of the company’s current turbocharged TCe (Turbo Control Efficiency) petrol engine line-up. In recent years this has witnessed the 1.2 TCe 100 replacing the 1.4 16V 98, and the arrival of the 1.4 TCe 130. The Energy range is set to expand even further in the next 18 months, with the arrival of three-cylinder modular petrol engines, as alluded to by the 110hp 900cc engine concept shown in the R-Space Concept in Switzerland just a few weeks ago.

The headline figures for the new Energy dCi 130 make for impressive reading. In spite of its fuel-sipping economy, powering Scénic it dispatches zero to 62 mph in 10.3 seconds and a top speed of 121 mph. In everyday driving, its torque of 320Nm from 1,750rpm, an increase of 20Nm on the former 1.9-litre diesel with the same power, is also likely to appeal, together with peak power of 130hp at 4,000 rpm.

Packed with advanced technology
The 1.6 dCi 130 features a raft of solutions which have given rise to significant CO2 emissions and fuel consumption savings, among them the use of EGR and Stop&Start technology.

The dCi 130 engine complies with Euro5 emissions legislation and is Euro6 ready. It is covered by 15 Renault patents and is poised to become the core-range powerplant for C-segment models, notably the Mégane family in the future. It will also feature in Renault’s D-segment and van line-ups.

This project was developed within the framework of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which means this engine will consequently power Nissan models too. It is also covered by the strategic cooperation agreement signed by the Alliance and Daimler.

This engine will be manufactured in France at Renault’s Cléon plant which is acclaimed for its production expertise in the field of technologically-advanced diesel engines (notably the V6 dCi, 2.0 dCi and the new 2.3 dCi which powers the Master van).

The new Energy dCi 130 is available to order now on Scénic and Grand Scénic Dynamique TomTom versions, priced £20,900 and £22,200. First deliveries are expected in July 2011.

Already hard at work on the imminent arrival of its Z.E. (**Zero Emission) range and latest downsized engine, Energy 1.6 dCi 130 with Stop-Start, Renault is accelerating its programme of reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles even further with an improved low-emission Clio, producing only 94 g/km CO2.

Building on the success of the former 98g/km Clio, the latest versions of the 1.5-litre diesel-engined supermini now offer even lower emissions and greater fuel economy, thanks to a raft of enhancements.

The new 94g/km versions come courtesy of an ‘Eco Pack’ which can be specified as a £250 option on Expression trim level versions of Clio 3- and 5-door. Prices for the standard model, prior to adding the optional pack, are £12,200 and £12,800 on-the-road.

Costing only £12,450 with the optional pack included, the three-door Clio is the cheapest sub-100g/km supermini in the UK, a full £1,445 less than the equivalent low-emission *Ford Fiesta Econetic (£13,895 OTR) and a considerable £2,410 less than the *Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion (£14,860 OTR).

With diesel now costing over £1.40 per litre, thankfully owners of its latest fuel-sipping Renault eco2 model won’t have to visit the dreaded pumps very often, with a wallet-friendly 949 miles on offer between fill-ups.

Bolstering the cost savings of running’s the French marque’s latest ‘green’ model, it also benefits from zero Vehicle Excise Duty, London Congestion Charge exemption, and for business customers, 100% Capital Write Down Allowance and low benefit-in-kind rating of only 13%.

Indeed, the sums for its users in the English capital, resident or not, really add up. London residents will be able to more than recoup the cost of the optional £250 pack in less than a year, based on exemption from £244 worth of Congestion Charge after including 90% residents’ discount and £10 registration fee, plus £110 on improved fuel economy compared to the standard dCi 88 over 12,000 miles. Non-residents would be better off to the tune of almost £2,500, based on the same fuel cost saving and exemption from the £9 Auto Pay weekday charge.

Improving the new Clio range addition’s fuel economy by a further 2.1 mpg than before to 78.4 (on the combined cycle) and lowering emissions by 4g/km to 94 has come as a result of its comprehensive specification. On top of the engineering tweaks under the bonnet, the optional ‘Eco Pack’ offers 15” Aero wheel trims with body-coloured Aero rear spoiler and ultra-low resistance tyres.

The standard Expression versions come highly equipped with 4x20W RDS radio CD with aux input and fingertip remote control, front fog lights and electric front windows and door mirrors. Several options are available, including air conditioning, extra tinted windows and tailgate and fully integrated Carminat TomTom Live satellite navigation.

In addition to the improvements to the low-emission Clio, there have also been some others to the rest of the range. Entry-level Expression now benefits from the soft-touch dashboard of more luxurious models, as well as satin chrome touches and new ‘Sport’ upholstery, while the best-selling Dynamique TomTom ushers in several enhancements of its own. These include a stylish new gloss black finish for the centre console, dash inserts and air vent surrounds, plus, gunmetal 16” Solonia alloys from the top-of-the-range GT Line TomTom, together with co-ordinating door mirrors.

The new 94 g/km Clio Expression Eco can be ordered now, priced from £12,450 including the optional pack.

Renault will have two versions of Twizy on display at the Barcelona Motor Show, both powered by a 17hp motor: Urban and Technic. With UK prices from only £6,690 on-the-road for arguably one of the year’s most eagerly-awaited vehicles, Renault looks set to send shockwaves through the industry, as well as the corridors of rival city car and scooter manufacturers.

In higher specification Technic trim it will cost £7,400. The monthly battery lease cost for both versions will be £40 including VAT for a 36 month/4,800 miles per year agreement.

Reservations for Twizy can now be made online at www.renault-ze.com
Customers can now pre-reserve their Twizy online at www.renault-ze.com. This requires a £20 deposit via a secure online payment module. Customers who pre-reserve their Twizy will be contacted on a priority basis when the car goes on sale with a view to confirming their order.

The renault-ze.com website is available in 38 countries and has already received more than five million visits, a figure which provides a dramatic illustration of the interest motorists are showing in the Renault Z.E. programme.

Twizy makes city motoring easier and safe:

Twizy gets around town faster than a traditional city car thanks to its unprecedented ultra-compact dimensions which also allows easy parking

It offers two occupants – sitting in tandem, one behind the other – greater safety compared with a two-wheeled vehicle, thanks to an extensive list of active and passive safety features

Twizy makes getting round town more enjoyable

It is more agile than a car, whilst its acceleration performance is comparable with that of a scooter

Twizy’s electric motor accelerates smoothly and silently, while torque is immediately available

Its wraparound bodywork and side deflectors ensure enjoyable open-air motoring, protected from the elements

The no-fuss, practical all-electric vehicle
Twizy’s battery fully charges in just three and a half hours using a domestic electrical supply via a spiral cable stowed behind a flap at the front. Twizy’s low weight (450kg, including the 100kg battery) directly helps its operational range of 62 miles (NEDC standard cycle). In everyday use, this figure can vary depending on driving conditions.

Accessories for the Twizy lifestyle

An all-purpose bag with a capacity of 50 litres

Additional protection against the weather

A Parrot audio kit including Bluetooth connectivity, plus a USB connector, a jack socket and an Apple connector

Rear parking sensors

A range of customisation accessories (coloured alloy wheels, decals) enabling owners to personalise their Twizy

Building on the success of its partnership with audio specialists, Bose, which began in 2008 with several of its larger models, Renault is now extending the premium sound system offering across its Scénic range for the first time.

With bank holiday season and the inevitable family jaunts fast approaching, plus the benefits of a high-quality sound system for higher mileage business drivers, the exceptional “live concert” sound quality is sure to come into its own, whether cruising along the motorway or sitting in traffic.

The optional Bose® Pack is available to order now for £1,500 on all Dynamique TomTom versions of the Scénic and Grand Scénic, excluding the 1.6 VVT 110.

All those on board, regardless of age or music taste, can enjoy impressive sound quality throughout the cabin, with deep bass, clear tones and crisp treble. The components of the Bose® Energy Efficient Series sound system are also 30% smaller, 40% lighter and use 50% less energy than systems with comparable audio performance. With nine speakers, an integrated subwoofer and a digital amplifier, it offers outstanding on-board audio quality and an unparalleled musical experience.

As well as the Bose® audio system, which is specifically tailored for Scénic and Grand Scénic models to ensure optimal acoustic performance, the Bose Pack also includes a range of black interior and exterior touches. On the outside, these include striking 17-inch black Schuss alloy wheels, gloss black door mirrors and bespoke Bose® badges on the front wheelarches. While on the inside, the contemporary look continues with high gloss piano black finishes to the dashboard, stereo surround and air vents, plus the door sills also bear the Bose® logo.

In keeping with the upmarket feel inside and out, Bose Pack models also benefit from electric folding door mirrors, carpet mats, an electrochrome rear view mirror, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, sliding centre console and a driver’s sunglasses holder.

Specified with the optional Bose Pack, Scénic Dynamique TomTom models cost from £20,250 and are available to order now.

Following the successful launch of the Twingo and Clio Gordini models, Renault’s stylish Wind Roadster is the next to receive the “French touch”. Expanding the coupé-roadster range with a version featuring the finest equipment available on the chic two-seater, this exclusive model will be presented at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show from 1 March 2011.

A true driver’s car, the coupé-roadster proudly bears the Gordini colours. Shod with 17-inch black diamond alloy wheels, it features Malta blue bodywork with trademark twin white stripes, Glacier white door mirrors, grille trim and rear wing, and a gloss black roof. A badge marked with a “G” completes the Gordini look.
Wind Roadster Gordini also places particular emphasis on interior design. The cabin features special “Gordini” black and blue leather upholstery, blue and white door straps and a blue leather steering wheel with the signature white stripes on the centreband. A leather gear lever gaiter and polished metal gearknob bearing the Gordini name complete the look.
But first and foremost, the Gordini name expresses a community spirit that has travelled down the years. Just as Gordini drivers of the 1960s and 1970s flashed their headlamps as a sign of recognition when they met on the road, so the modern Gordini community meets up on social networks. In an innovative move by Renault, they were the first to receive news of the Wind Roadster Gordini reveal with a teaser posted on the Gordini fan page on Facebook on 31 January.

Having played a headlining role in the finest moments at the motorsport mecca that is the Monaco Grand Prix, Renault developed the Monaco GP limited edition for its Laguna Coupé last year, aimed at fans of elegance, sport and style. Now set to join it on the grid after its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, is the curvaceous Mégane Coupé version.

A shared signature for Monaco GP limited edition: elegance, sport and style
The Monaco GP limited edition models are big on personality. On Mégane Coupé, the front end with its sleek headlights and large air intake give it a dynamic stance, enhances by its broad haunches. Its imposing design is accentuated in this limited edition through pearlescent Arctic White paint, together with gloss black body components – door mirrors, rear diffuser and foglight surrounds, black headlight masks and “Monaco GP” badging.

Exclusive interiors
Everything on the inside expresses its impeccable build quality and stylish sportiness. Among its original touches are Arctic white cabin details (console, dashboard trim, door handles), plus exclusive “Monaco GP” stitching on the seats, a numbered plaque and “Monaco GP” floor mats.

Reassuring roadholding
Monaco GP features the very best in technology for unrivalled efficiency and peace of mind, including the latest-generation dual-chamber airbags, plus impressive grip whatever the conditions thanks to ESC. The chassis too was specially designed to bring drivers optimal control and driving thrills, without affecting comfort.

Mégane Coupé Monaco GP

On top of its attractive, recently-lowered prices by up to £2,000 on many of its most popular versions, Renault has launched an exciting new limited edition, Bizu, to tempt customers looking for even greater value for money.

Available until June, the limited edition versions run across the Twingo, Clio, Megane and Scenic ranges, with austerity measure-busting prices up to £3,870 lower than the entry-level versions of the same model. The Twingo 1.2 16V 75 for example, is available for only £6,595, a full £2,300 lower than the standard Expression.

For comfort and safety, every Bizu comes fitted with ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), Brake Assist and electric front windows. They also feature Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calls on the move and aux input for plugging in the latest tunes.

Turning on the style, Clio versions benefit from sporty touches such as body-coloured rear spoiler and brushed chrome effect front fog light surrounds. The Megane and Scenic families offer even greater riches, with CSV understeer control, electric heated door mirrors, ESC, air conditioning and keyless car with Renault card.

Prices for the rest of the Bizu line-up are just as alluring, with the Clio priced at £8,595, Megane at £11,595 and Scenic for £12,595. Full pricing is outlined below.

As the only manufacturer to offer a full ‘rally’ range based on group R regulations, Renault Sport Technologies is now to add Mégane Renaultsport N4 to its line-up. Developed for racing on asphalt, it is set to establish a new standard.

With the same intrinsic qualities as the Mégane Renaultsport 250, the new model draws on a heritage of group N-homologated Renaults stretching back over a quarter of a century: 5 GT Turbo, R11 Turbo, R21 2l Turbo, R19 16V, Clio Williams and Clio Renaultsport.

Intended to keep costs down, group N regulations impose strict rules on the modifications that can be made to the original car. This constraint works to the advantage of the Mégane Renaultsport N4, which gets the full benefit of the technology used on the production model. The PerfoHub independent steering-axis front suspension design has allowed the engineers to put together a chassis that combines traction, directional stability and driving comfort in complete safety. The use of three-way adjustable shock absorbers also allows the settings to be adapted to all types of driving style.

Under the bonnet, the performance of the 2.0-litre 16V turbo engine has been enhanced with an optimised electronic engine control system. Despite regulatory restrictions, the Mégane Renaultsport N4’s engine puts out 265hp and torque of 470 Nm. It is linked to a five-speed H-pattern gearbox, developed specifically for this purpose. On the strength of its experience in the field, Renault Sport Technologies has sought to design an innovative, reliable and high-performance package that also takes on board the notion of cost control at every stage of development. The intention is to make Mégane Renaultsport N4 accessible to all drivers, and be both easy to handle and economical to run. Like all of the vehicles in its rally range, Mégane Renaultsport N4 is to be sold by Renault Sport Technologies in the form of a kit comprising all the specific parts.

In 2011, Renault will be celebrating its 50th anniversary which provides the brand’s Histoire & Collection department with a unique opportunity to stage and take part in a long list of major events. A car has been entered for January’s historic Monte Carlo Rally, for example, and the model is due to star at February’s Rétromobile classic car show in Paris. It will also receive red carpet treatment at the third 4L International event which will visit the Loire Valley chateaux in July.

La Renault 4 was the fruit of a concept. In 1956, Pierre Dreyfus, then president of the Régie Nationale des Usines Renault, launched the notion of a “blue jeans” car. Like the now-familiar article of clothing which is worn the world over, he wanted to produce a versatile, inexpensive car with a worldwide calling which could match the changes in society that were being observed as the 1960s approached.

Following a five-year incubation period, the Renault 4, the make’s first front-wheel drive passenger car, was unveiled to the Press before going on display at the 1961 Paris Motor Show. A van and three saloon versions were launched simultaneously: the R3, which was dropped from the catalogue the following year, the R4 and the R4L (the “L” standing for luxury), soon to become the household name for a model that lost no time in finding a place for itself in the French public’s hearts.

Its unrivalled interior, low running costs and ability to adapt to all types of use made it an instant hit. Just six years after its launch, Renault 4 production exceeded the million mark, and other records were broken as the car reached a total production figure of 8,135,424 in the course of its 31-year career.

The Renault 4 was a global success and was produced or assembled in no fewer than 27 countries (in addition to France), some as far afield as Australia, South Africa, Chile and the Philippines. Indeed, six in ten sales were outside of Renault’s home market. During its illustrious career, the Renault 4 was made in several different versions, including a van, a four-wheel drive vehicle and a cabriolet. Other variants, such as the Rodeo, and a long list of limited editions were also released, the best known of which in France were the Parisienne (1963), the Safari (1975), the Jogging (1981) and the Sixties (1985).

Meanwhile, the model benefited from its own off-road racing championship and was a favourite means of transport for young people itching to explore the world. It was also seen on such celebrated motorsport events as the Monte Carlo Rally and Paris-Dakar. It even finished the celebrated African rally-raid on the podium one year.

In 1992, a numbered special edition farewell version – “Bye-Bye” – was released to salute the incredible success of the model, which continued to be manufactured in small numbers in Slovenia and Morocco until 1994.

To celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary, Renault plans to stage and take part in a long list of important events throughout 2011. The key dates on the calendar are:

The Modulo 4 Exhibition
This travelling exhibition will take in a number of different automotive events in 2011, from the Rétromobile classic car show in Paris, to the World Series by Renault, the Autoworld Museum in Brussels and the French national motor museum in Mulhouse, etc. Put together by Renault’s Histoire & Collection department, it stars 13 cars that epitomise the R4′s history and qualities.

Three Renault 4s on the 2011 historic Monte Carlo Rally
As a tribute to the works Renault 4 entries for the 1962 and 1963 Montes, the Histoire & Collection department has prepared three Renault 4s for the forthcoming historic Monte Carlo Rally (27 January-2 February). These three cars have been entirely stripped and rebuilt like all top rally cars. They have been equipped to tackle the challenges of the 2,500km route in the hands of drivers Jean Ragnotti, Manu Guigou and Michel Duvernay.

Rétromobile classic car show (Paris)
The Renault 4′s 50th anniversary celebrations will also allow Renault to make a splash at the Rétromobile classic car show which takes place at the Porte de Versailles complex in Paris (207 February 2011). Visitors to the 700 sq. metre stand will be able to discover or rediscover the dozen or so Renault 4s that star in the travelling Modulo 4 exhibition. Renault 4 Miss Sixty will also be on show (see below).

4L International meeting
For the third year running, the 4L International meeting will enable fans from across Europe, and even further afield, to gather in Thenay, Loir-et-Cher, France, on July 15-17, 2011. Since its creation by 4L Magazine, this event has benefited from the backing of Renault’s Histoire & Collection department, and the 50th anniversary festivities will naturally add a special flavour to this year’s rally which is expected to attract several thousand enthusiasts. A prize draw will be organised to give participants a chance to win the actual Renault 4 that Jean Ragnotti will drive on the 2011 historic Monte Carlo Rally.

Renault 4 Miss Sixty
The Renault 4 Miss Sixty echoes the name of the high street fashion brand Miss Sixty, as well as the blue jeans dear to Pierre Dreyfus. It also refers to the limited edition Twingo of the same name that was unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The Renault 4 Miss Sixty is a one-off car designed by Renault’s design team in association with Miss Sixty, and produced by Renault Histoire & Collection as part of the model’s half-century celebrations.

It is based on a 1965 Renault 4L and features a specific body colour and bespoke decals on the boot, rear left wing and two of its wheels, as well as specific rear lights and an interior trimmed in grey denim with pink stitching and embroidered patterns.

Renault Twizy, an all-new, four-wheeled, two-seat, fully-electric, innovative answer to urban motoring, is the focus of the first iAd campaign to be launched in Europe. A revolutionary concept, targeting young “early adopter” urbanites, Twizy will be launched one year from now.

By launching Twizy’s mobile marketing with iAd, Renault is acknowledging Apple users as being at the forefront of mobility. Without having to exit the app they’re using, iPhone and iPod touch users can explore – and explode – the urban myths about electric vehicles. The iAd has many engaging features, including calculating how much a Twizy can charge up while doing activities from getting a haircut to working out, shaking your iPhone or iPod touch to check out various Twizy designs, even pre-reserving a vehicle of your own.

By being the first iAd campaign launch in Europe, Renault is furthering its mobile strategy to develop marketing, communication and service solutions with leading names in their industries.

The new Twingo Gordini 100, powered by the 1.2 TCe (Turbo Control Efficiency) petrol engine, is aimed squarely at customers looking for good handling and affordable running costs, wrapped up in a chic and sporty three-door package.

The appeal of the Gordini versions of Twingo and Clio Renaultsport to a younger audience has already surpassed expectations, with sales of both models having risen significantly. So much so, that since their arrival across Europe, the halo version of the Twingo now accounts for two-thirds of sales and one-third in the case of Clio. The French marque is now aiming to emulate such runaway success of its ‘French flair’ models with its latest model, which slots into the range above Dynamique, in place of the former GT.

The newcomer is instantly recognisable as a Gordini, through its trademark twin racing stripes with subtle ‘G’ badging across the bonnet, roof and tailgate. Its striking apparel continues with gloss black front and rear bumpers, extra-tinted rear windows and tailgate and discreet Gordini Series badging.

The sporty theme continues with its colour palette choice of three – Malta Blue, with white Gordini stripes and matching details (foglight surrounds, door mirrors and rear spoiler), or Pearlescent Black and Glacier White. In the case of the latter, the styling details are picked out in anthracite.

On the inside, the bespoke ambience continues. The Gordini 100 features dark carbon cloth seats with embossed Gordini logo and white stitching, blue door trim inserts with white stitching and blue leather-trimmed steering wheel with two white stripes to indicate the straight ahead position. The Gordini rev-counter naturally comes in trademark blue with white background and bezel, while the Gordini gear lever knob shares the same blue hue, as does the gear lever base. Completing the raft of accoutrements is a gloss black centre console and aluminium pedals.

The upmarket feel also crosses over to its equipment level. Standard kit on the trendy addition to Renault’s popular city car line-up, includes 4x20W RDS radio with single CD MP3 player, Bluetooth™ and aux input, air conditioning, 15-inch ‘Turini’ alloy wheels with polished face and black inserts, cruise control, electric windows, speed limiter and independent sliding and folding rear seats.

Twingo Gordini 100 can also be ordered with features previously unavailable on GT, including polished alloys with blue inserts and leather upholstery, to be precise, leather-faced Gordini seats with blue detailing. Other options include climate control, metallic paint and electric panoramic sunroof with sunblind. The Gordini stripes on the bonnet, roof and tailgate are a no-cost removable option.

Under the bonnet of the latest version is the responsive 1.2 TCe petrol engine, pushing out 100hp at 5,500 rpm, with a top speed of 117 mph. Meanwhile, beneath the chic Gordini TCe 100 body, lies the GT chassis with stiffer shock absorbers and bushes, and recalibrated sports steering.

With its sporty styling and dynamic on-road performance, you could be forgiven for thinking that its environmental credentials would inevitably suffer. But, you would be wrong. With CO2 emissions of 132 grams per kilometre, the Gordini TCe 100 qualifies for the Renault eco² signature, as well as offering impressive combined fuel economy of 49.5 mpg. Crucially for a car of its ilk, and especially its appeal to younger buyers, its insurance group is likely to be competitive when it is formally announced soon.

Thirty years on from its heyday, the Gordini name, not to mention its inimitable look, still holds a special place in many people’s hearts. Today, its timeless French style means that nine out of every ten customers chooses the blue livery, while only one per cent of buyers order a Gordini without stripes. Overall, the Gordini line-up has enabled Renault to extend its reach to a younger, more style-conscious audience, with Twingo Renaultsport’s market share up by five percentage points in the thirty to forty age group.

The Gordini name has also attracted a sizeable cult following. Its fan community on Facebook has over 28,000 fans, while the Gordini iPhone® application has been downloaded more than 115,000 times. Interestingly, the Facebook community’s profile differs from that of the conventional Renaultsport models, in that it has twice as many female followers and is on average 15 years younger.

Twingo Gordini 100 will be available to order from January 2011, priced £11,395. All of the latest Renault news is available at www.renault.co.uk, Renault TV on Sky Guide 883 and Freesat 651, or by following on twitter @renault_uk.

Less than a month after their world debuts at the Paris motor show, Renault has released UK pricing and specification for the Laguna 2011 Hatch and Sport Tourer models, with savings of up to £1,855 available compared to the previous range.

Following a simplified range structure, the new line-up incorporates three core trim levels, Expression, Dynamique TomTom and GT Line TomTom. The Laguna Coupé is unaffected by the changes.

All models in the revised range come with comprehensive specification levels. For the entry-level Expression, this includes Arkamys 3D Sound single CD/radio MP3 with Bluetooth™ and fingertip control, 16” alloy wheels, air conditioning, aux input, ESC and front fog lights.

Moving up the range to the expected best-seller, Dynamique TomTom, adds a raft of extra equipment designed to make life at the wheel even more relaxed. Among its enhanced specification are automatic parking brake, headlights and wipers, cruise control, chrome twin exhausts (excluding dCi 110), dual zone climate control, electrically heated and folding door mirrors, hands-free keycard, rear parking sensors, multi-functional TunePoint (for portable music players) and speed limiter. Lastly, given the version’s name, these versions also feature Carminat TomTom Live ®, the latest edition of Renault’s integrated satellite navigation system.

The latest incarnation of Renault’s innovative Carminat TomTom system now incorporates a new range of real-time services. As easy to operate as ever, the interface is even more effective through the addition of four features:

HD Traffic: Europe’s best real-time traffic information service. In less than three minutes, Europe-wide traffic information is fed to the system, processed by TomTom®’s servers and made available to warn drivers of the extent of upcoming jams and the likely delay. If necessary, Carminat TomTom® Live recalculates an alternative itinerary to the user’s destination. One million motorists benefit from this service every day.
In certain countries, advanced warning of mobile speed checks is provided. Carminat TomTom® Live is the only integrated satnav that provides real-time warning of speed camera locations based on information supplied by the market’s most efficient data bases, including Road Angel in the UK.
The Local Search with Google™ function uses search words to provide access to 11 million points of interest and information (telephone numbers, descriptions, Google community opinions).
Last but not least, long range, five-day weather forecasts covering the itinerary and destination are available anywhere in Europe.
These services are free of charge for a three-month trial period, after which an annual subscription can be taken out via the TomTom HOME application. Pricing for this has yet to be confirmed in the UK, but is likely to be in the region of £60.

The new top-of-the range GT Line TomTom benefits from 18” Interlagos dark finish alloy wheels, BOSE sound system with 10 speakers and amplifier, 4Control four-wheel steering for an even more engaging drive (dCi 180 only), pearl black electric folding door mirrors with memory, and leather and alcantara upholstery with electrically adjustable heated front seats.

Although the entire Laguna 2011 versions range boasts a wealth of comfort, luxury and technological features, a range of options are available to customise versions to specific customer tastes.

Three of the most prominent options are electric panoramic sunroof (£615), BOSE audio system, bi-xenon directional headlights including daytime running lights (£750) and the Carminat TomTom Live® navigation system (£460, Expression only as standard on Dynamique TomTom and above). The striking Malta Blue metallic paint is currently reserved for the top-of-the-range GT Line dCi 180 FAP version at £600.

In addition to individual options, two option packs of bundled items are also available, offering significant cost savings compared to them being bought separately.

The first, Comfort, affords Expression passengers even greater levels of convenience, with dual zone climate control and automatic parking brake, headlight and wipers.

The second, Initiale Lux, rewards customers seeking the ultimate combination of sport and luxury detailing on the already well-equipped Dynamique TomTom versions. Its comprehensive package includes 18” Celsium alloy wheels, BOSE sound system with 10 speakers and amplifier, electric folding door mirrors with memory, GT leather steering wheel and metallic paint.

The understated sporty and classy black theme continues on the inside with centre console and interior details picked out in high gloss piano black, together with dark carbon leather upholstery, including electrically adjustable and heated front seats.

As well as the cost and equipment improvements, the Laguna 2011 range also benefits from a series of engine enhancements, resulting in reduced emissions and greater fuel economy across the range. The new line-up includes fully Euro 5-compliant engines, plus ten ‘eco2’ branded versions with sub-140 grams CO2,covering each of the dCi 110 and 150 diesel-engined variants. Among the most prominent changes are the least emitting 1.5-litre dCi 110 which now emits even less than previously at 120 grams. The 2.0 dCi 180 has also gone down by 13 grams and the 2.0 16V 140 petrol by 7 grams.

Two of these same engines have also benefited from particularly noteworthy fuel economy boosts. The dCi 110 is now able to achieve 60.1 mpg on the combined cycle, up from 57.6, while the dCi 180 has risen from 45.6 to 49.5.

Full pricing for the Laguna 2011 Hatch and Sport Tourer models is outlined below. Prices for the capacious Sport Tourer version are £1,100 higher than those of the Hatch. Insurance groups have yet to be confirmed, but are expected to be competitive.

The new five-door Hatch version is available to order now, replacing the outgoing Extreme trim level, in either 1.6 100 petrol or 1.5 dCi 90 FAP diesel guise.

Both models drive through five-speed gearboxes.

As part of its ‘Vive Le Summer’ promotion, which has just started, the new entry-level Generation 1.6 100 will be available for a limited time to retail cash buyers at just £10,995 on-the-road, a full £3,000 less than the recommended retail price. Outside of the offer, at £13,995 and £15,755 respectively, both models are still an impressive £860 cheaper than their predecessors.

In spite of the tempting prices, there has not been any skimping on specification when it comes to Generation’s equipment levels. Among their core features are 4x15W radio CD with fingertip remote controls and aux input, air conditioning, cruise control, electric door mirrors and front windows, ESC, hands free keycard and speed limiter.

Renault has provided a first glimpse of its latest concept car, DeZir, ahead of this year’s Paris Motor Show. DeZir stands out as an illustration of the brand’s commitment to more emotional styling.

DeZir’s sensuous lines and bright red finish express passion. Powered by an electric motor, DeZir is proof that electric vehicles and a love of cars are by no means incompatible.

The DeZir project is the first to have been led by Laurens van den Acker and marks the start of a sequence of concept cars that will provide an insight into Renault Design’s new vision for the future. It also lays the foundations for the styling cues of Renault’s forthcoming vehicles.

The public will get its first opportunity to see DeZir at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

DEZIR: THE FIRST EVIDENCE OF RENAULT DESIGN’S NEW VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Under the leadership of Laurens van den Acker, Renault’s Design Department has taken its inspiration from the brand’s new signature ‘Drive the Change’ and explores Renault’s styling roots to express the company’s powerful human dimension via a new strategy founded on the notion of the ‘life cycle’. This vision also builds on the bonds that are gradually forged between the brand and its customers at watershed moments of their lives, such as when they fall inlove, begin to explore the world, start a family, begin work, take time out to play and gain wisdom.

This approach coincides with the introduction of a new Renault design language that takes its inspiration from the three keywords which communicate the brand’s vision, namely ‘simple’, ‘sensuous’ and ‘warm’.

In keeping with this strategy, Renault’s concept cars will progressively express this vision, paving the way for a product plan based on a range of rational, user-friendly cars.

To implement this, Renault Design has revised its methodology, and a single team of designers will now be responsible for each new concept car and for the subsequent production model it previews.

Wind Roadster extends the brand’s range with a new model wholly dedicated to the pleasure of its occupants inviting them to enjoy an alternative way of driving. Through its concept and the technology it employs, Renault’s Wind Roadster is an ingenious illustration of the company’s new brand signature, ‘Drive the Change’.

Wind Roadster targets customers looking for a compact everyday car and, as a two-seat coupé-roadster with a length of 3.83 metres, it slots into the Renault range between Twingo and Clio. Thanks to its ingenious, electrically-operated roof system, which pivots open in just 12 seconds, Wind Roadster boasts unprecedented versatility: in the lowered position, the roof panel rests above the boot, meaning that boot volume is always 270dm3 VDA, whether the roof is up or down.

Wind Roadster has head-turning looks. Its blue-tinged gaze, muscular profile and rear-end forms, give it an emphatically modern profile. Unique styling details include the roof-cover cowls, chrome exterior door mirror housings and badging on the side which recalls the rotational movement of the roof-opening mechanism.

Meanwhile, there is an unmistakable ‘cockpit’ feel about the interior. The instruments are reminiscent of the world of motorbikes, the sport seats feature integrated head rests, while the low-set driving position and sporty layout of the controls are typical of roadsters.

The expertise of Renault Sport Technologies (R.S.T) in the realm of motoring enjoyment needs no introduction, and Wind Roadster has benefited extensively from the expertise of R.S.T’s engineers.

The new coupé-roadster is built on the same platform as Clio II Renaultsport, and its chassis is perfectly suited to the power outputs of the two engines that are available for the car, the 1.2 TCe 100 and the 1.6 VVT 133hp. One of the chief accomplishments of R.S.T’s engineers is the fact that they have achieved the best weight to body-rigidity ratio for a coupé-roadster, allowing Wind Roadster owners to profit from an outstanding ride plus very low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Wind Roadster takes full advantage of Renault’s expertise in the fields of active and passive safety too, while the excellence of its chassis and its powerful brakes ensure exceptionally reassuring handling.

Wind Roadster goes on sale from July 2010 in the UK and Slovenia, and from September in other western European markets.

Wind Roadster’s length of 3.83 metres sees the newcomer slot between Twingo (3.60m) and Clio (4.03m), and marks the addition to the Renault range of a new, compact, coupé-roadster concept that is ideally suited to everyday motoring.

For who? And in response to what demand?

Renault sees no reason why the freedom associated with open-air motoring should be the exclusive reserve of higher-end segments. On the contrary, there is an unmet demand in Europe for a small convertible that can serve as an everyday car, either for the driver alone or for a couple without children. Such customers are quite young (or young at heart!), attracted by the sporty cues of coupés and roadsters and looking for eye-catching looks, as well as a model that is sufficiently practical to serve as an everyday car.

A coupé-roadster

To meet this demand, it was necessary to produce a coupé-roadster with a unique, striking design and sporty looks, but without making any concessions with regard to the features that are seen to go hand-in-hand with the sense of true freedom:

a clever, robust, easy-to-use roof-opening mechanism that delivers genuine open-air thrills,

an exceptionally practical car, with consistent boot space whether the top is up or down,

compact dimensions and nimble handling ideally suited to driving in and around town,

fun, punchy dynamics combined with low fuel consumption,

a low-set driving position and a sporty layout for the controls,

an outstanding equipment and specification package for its price.

UNIQUE STYLING

Wind Roadster’s design is striking. Its blue-tinged gaze, muscular profile and rear-end forms give it an emphatically modern stance.

Head-turning looks

When it comes to this type of car, exterior styling is the key factor in the purchase decision. Therefore, to appeal to its market, Wind Roadster’s design needed to be both dynamic and robust, as well as unmistakably modern.

Seen from the side, Wind Roadster’s sporty, robust lines, steeply-raked bonnet, high waistline, extensively sculpted flanks and integral roll hoop immediately catch the eye. The two roof-cover cowls located in the slipstream of the head rests are distinctive roadster features and form a natural link between the interior and exterior. Work on the windscreen header-rail, which sits in a far more forward position than that of rival convertibles, heightens the pleasure associated with open-top motoring and further underpins Wind’s roadster credentials.

The rear end incorporates a distinctive wing which forms part of the boot lid, while the boomerang-shaped rear lights provide a readily identifiable lighting signature.

Wind Roadster is available in Glacier White (non-metallic), as well as metallic Azzurro Blue, Ruby Red, Mirage Grey and Pearl Black. The Collection limited edition is solely available in Glacier White and Pearl Black.

Interior design: a genuine cockpit

There is an unmistakable ‘cockpit’ feel about Wind Roadster’s interior which has been designed to heighten the sense of motoring enjoyment through a host of sporty cues. These include sport seats with integrated head rests, full instrumentation set in profiled tunnels and a translucent instrument panel cowl (red or black) that recalls the world of motorbikes.

The dark charcoal ambiance is set off by the door pulls, aluminium pedal covers, sports steering wheel and a range of satin-finish chrome details that highlight Wind Roadster’s unique coupé-roadster appeal and irresistibly tempt you to open the roof and head off for the country!

A REVOLUTIONARY ROOF

When it comes to convertible car technology, Wind Roadster’s roof breaks new ground.

Owners of soft top cars are often anxious when their vehicle is parked outside, while folding hard tops can take up a disproportionate amount of boot space when lowered and are frequently restricted to larger cars. As a fast, easy and reliable means of lowering and raising the roof, and to avoid encroaching on valuable boot space when the top is down, a rotating mechanism stood out as the best solution.

Just 12 seconds to lower the top – best-in-class

After pulling on a handle to release the roof lock, the driver simply has to press on the electric switch for the roof to pivot round its axis between the quarter panels before silently coming to rest on top of the boot covered by an additional panel.

An audible warning and a message on the trip computer inform the driver once the operation has been completed. In addition to being a quick way to lower or raise the top, this ingenious rotating system employs very few parts, which further contributes to its reliability.

The combined weight of the roof and its kinematics is a mere 21.8kg, which is a fifth of that of a conventional hard top.

The interior of the roof is protected from dust and the elements in the ‘open’ position by a patented boot lid design, while the fixed rear window actively contributes to Wind Roadster’s structural rigidity.

Boot space on a par with Clio

Whether the top is up or down, the same generous, easily accessible 270dm3 VDA of boot space means that Wind Roadster owners can travel with baggage, yet still enjoy al fresco motoring at will. Opening and shutting the boot requires no more effort than an ordinary saloon thanks to two gas struts.

RENAULT SPORT TECHNOLOGIES’ EXPERTISE FOR GREATER DRIVING PLEASURE

The expertise of Renault Sport Technologies (R.S.T) when it comes to motoring enjoyment needs no introduction, and Wind Roadster has benefited extensively from the knowledge of R.S.T’s engineers.

Staff at R.S.T’s engineering headquarters in Les Ulis, near Paris, France, worked closely with teams from the nearby Technocentre in Guyancourt to ensure that Wind Roadster benefited fully from the company’s very best skills.

The new coupé-roadster capitalises on the strengths of the Clio II Renaultsport platform which is perfectly suited to the power outputs of the two engines available for Wind Roadster, namely the 1.2 TCe 100 and the 1.6 VVT 133hp.

The know-how of R.S.T’s engineers enabled them to achieve the best weight/body rigidity ratio for a coupé-roadster, allowing Wind Roadster owners to profit from an enjoyable driving experience combined with low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

An efficient, reassuring chassis

Wind Roadster benefits from an exemplary chassis:

The front suspension features a MacPherson-type arrangement incorporating an aluminium lower arm (Cobapress® process) to minimise weight. The use of damper pushrods enhances the efficiency of the 22mm-diameter anti-roll bar for outstanding body roll control.

The rear suspension is based on a programmed-deflection flexible H beam. For extra comfort and filtering performance, it has vertically-mounted dampers and variable-rate coil springs. The 22.5mm-diameter rear anti-roll bar ensures the optimum compromise between performance and ride comfort, while anti-roll performance has been balanced to optimise the work of the rear suspension and profit fully from the dynamic potential of the chassis.

Wind Roadster sits on 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with either Bridgestone (195/45 R16) or Continental (205/40 R17) tyres.

Its electric power steering is calibrated to deliver precise, responsive performance. The steering ratio is 16.5:1, which is the same as that of Clio Renaultsport 200.

Weight optimised for maximum structural rigidity

Minimising weight is the single most important factor when it comes to optimising performance. It also contributes to reducing fuel consumption, yet a high level of body rigidity is necessary to ensure faultless roadholding.

Consequently, the engineering teams paid careful attention to eliminate vibrations and achieve a high degree of body stiffness (8,500Nm/degree). To achieve this, they equipped the body with simple, innovative and effective additional bracing:

strengthening bars underneath the body and in the boot,

reinforced sills,

a full bulkhead between the cockpit and the boot,

The sum of this work enables Wind Roadster to claim a best-in-class weight-to-structural rigidity ratio.

Meanwhile, the low weight of the rotating roof (21.8kg) allows the 1.2 TCe 100 and 1.6 VVT 133 versions of Wind Roadster to tip the scales at just 1,131kg and 1,173kg respectively.

Two pleasant, fun-to-drive engines

The 1.2 TCe 100: flexible and responsive (TCe = Turbo Control Efficiency)…

In addition to returning the fuel consumption of an engine of its size, this feisty powerplant boasts the power output of a 1.4 and the torque of a 1.6-litre. It is equipped with a low inertia turbo which ensures minimal lag thanks to the fitment of a small-diameter turbine and compressor. Maximum power is 100hp at 5,500rpm, while peak torque is 152Nm (3,500rpm).

The combination of the 1.2 TCe 100′s small cubic capacity and low inertia turbo ensures responsive pick-up from low revs, with peak torque available at very low engine speeds and across a broad rev-band. The turbocharger includes an ‘over-boost’ feature which temporarily increases power output and torque (by 5hp and 6Nm respectively) in second, third and fourth gears at engine speeds of more than 4,500rpm. For added character, as well as extra punch and response, the TCE 100 engine drives through a short-ratio five-speed manual gearbox (JH3).

The combination of the 1.2 TCe 100 engine’s smaller cubic capacity and the technology it employs maximises driving pleasure, yet its combined cycle fuel consumption stands at only 44.8 mpg (equivalent to 145g of CO2/km). Wind Roadster 1.2 TCe 100 accelerates from rest to 62 mph in just 10.5 seconds.

1.6 VVT 133hp: a flexible, naturally-aspirated engine with bags of character…

Wind Roadster is also available with the Renault Sport Technologies-developed 1.6 16V naturally-aspirated powerplant, the specially-tuned pitch of which serves as an immediate pointer to its fiery character.

This flexible, high-revving, 1.6 VVT engine produces 133hp at 6,750rpm, with maximum torque of 160Nm at 4,400rpm. It revs swiftly and crisply all the way up to the red line which is set at 7,000rpm.

With this engine under the bonnet, Wind Roadster delivers plenty of thrills and driving pleasure at low and transient engine speeds up to 4,500rpm, although it truly come into its own when pushed beyond the 4,500rpm mark. The 1.6 VVT accelerates from zero to 62 mph in just 9.2 seconds and boasts a top speed of 125 mph, yet combined cycle fuel consumption has been contained at 40.3 mpg (equivalent to CO2 emissions of 165g/km).

SAFETY

Safety is a strategic priority for Renault which builds on the results of work carried out by LAB1 and from its own engineering expertise to develop the most effective safety systems for real world driving situations. Wind Roadster benefits fully from the brand’s know-how in the fields of both active and passive safety.

Active safety

A long list of driver aids and equipment is available to assist the driver:

Durable stopping power

Wind Roadster benefits from Renault Sport’s braking expertise to deliver powerful, durable stopping power combined with a reassuringly progressive pedal feel. Braking is provided by 280mm-diameter ventilated discs and 57mm-diameter callipers at the front, and 240mm-diameter discs with 34mm-diameter callipers at the rear.

Passive safety

Wind’s reinforced body structure notably features steel bars and tubing for the underbody and boot.

Patented, innovative door bracing protects the survival cell in the case of a head-on or side-on impact.

The fixed rollover hoop incorporates the rear window and protects occupants in the event of a rollover. The deformable steering wheel, retractable steering column and extensive padding help prevent traumatic injuries in a major head-on impact.

Safety performance is further enhanced by the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP3) which takes into account impact force and the build of occupants thanks to the combined action of the following features:

seat belt pretensioners restrict forward movement of the body by holding the straps firmly across the thorax and lap,

impact energy is further absorbed by the front airbags,

head/thorax lateral airbags are incorporated in the seats

ACCESS TO A WORLD OF PLEASURE

Useful technology

Multi-functional TunePoint connectivity allows occupants to plug digital devices such as iPods®, iPhones®, USB keys and other USB-compatible MP3 players into Wind Roadster’s own audio. This system enables occupants to enjoy music stored on a portable player and allows them to scroll through menus using the steering column-mounted or radio fascia controls. Directory, file and tune names are shown on the separate display.

The hands-free Bluetooth® telephony function enables drivers to make and take calls safely via Wind Roadster’s own loudspeakers. The system automatically recognises the telephone each time the car is started. An exclusive Renault function enables the driver to select an automatic ‘hold’ setting that puts callers on hold until he or she is in a situation where they can take an incoming call safely. The radio automatically mutes when an incoming or outgoing call is detected, while telephone functions can be controlled via the steering column-mounted fingertip controls, with messages shown on the separate display.

The Bluetooth® telephony function also incorporates audio streaming, enabling favourite music stored on an A2DP-compatible portable device to be played wirelessly through the car’s loudspeakers.

A clear, extensively-equipped standard specification:

Renault has today provided the first glimpse of its latest global family saloon, Latitude. In addition to its balanced proportions, generous exterior dimensions, large boot and front-end looks which mirror the powerful engines in the new range, the newcomer boasts elegant styling.

Based on an architecture that is widely acclaimed for its strength and efficiency, Renault’s new saloon rounds off the brand’s international high-end range and will appeal to customers who are looking for status, quality and comfort in all of its forms.

Renault Latitude will get its first public airing at the Moscow Motor Show at the end of August, while European motorists will be able to get their first close-up view of the car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show in October.

In addition to its generous exterior dimensions (length: 4.89m / width: 1.83m / height: 1.49m), Latitude boasts elegant looks. The contours of the grille are flanked by distinctive bi-xenon adaptive directional headlights, while chrome detailing give the car an unmistakable impression of dynamism and status. Its rear design incorporates ample boot space, and the new car can effectively claim one of the biggest boots in its class. The rear lighting signature employs LED technology and harmonises perfectly with the chrome rear strip which bears the new model’s name.

Based on the same architecture as New SM5, which was recently launched in Korea, Latitude profits extensively from Renault’s engineering expertise. Occupants benefit from a comfortable, quiet ride, as well as a precise chassis and a choice of powerplants that are sure to give it a decisive edge over its rivals. For enhanced quality and reliability, Renault Latitude comes with a number of features developed and assembled to the Alliance’s highest standards and which benefit directly from the excellent results obtained by Laguna on these two fronts.

The complete equipment list, which will be revealed at a later date, places the emphasis on innovation and travelling comfort, including a dual-mode air ioniser with double fragrance diffuser, triple-zone climate control, a massaging driver’s seat, Bose Premium audio and Renault hands-free card.

Tailored to meet the demand of its different markets, Latitude’s specification will deliver a truly high-end package that will position it as the flagship of Renault’s international saloon car range. It will be shown at the forthcoming Moscow Motor Show, and is due to go on sale this autumn, chiefly in Asia, Africa, the Gulf States, Mexico, Turkey, Russia and Australia.

The European version will be one of the world debuts at the 2010 Paris Motor Show in October, where visitors will get a chance to take a closer look at its interior design, as well as receive full details of the model’s equipment lists and engine range. The international media will be invited to road test Latitude before the end of 2010, and sales will commence shortly afterwards.

A decision on the possible UK launch of Latitude has not yet been made, however, potential international customers will be able to discover more about the car from 10 June at www.renault-latitude.com.

Following the recent launch of its new GT models, Renault is now completing the New Mégane family by confirming UK pricing and specification for the Coupé-Cabriolet, the stylish finale to the range.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the svelte new drop-top comes in a choice of two trim levels, Dynamique TomTom and GT, priced from £21,595.

The elegant new model is available with a comprehensive range of six engine and transmission combinations, two of which are reserved solely for the flagship GT versions. Among the additions are the new EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) automatic transmission, available exclusively with the 1.5 dCi 110 engine, which, at 130 grams per kilometre, gives the lowest emissions of any automatic versions in its class with a folding hard-top. Also debuting in the four-seater is the responsive, yet frugal 1.4 TCe (Turbo Control efficiency) 130 engine. The third petrol engine in the line-up is the 2.0 CVT 140, while the Dynamique TomTom powertrain options end with the 1.9 dCi 130.

The two-version GT range is exclusively offered with the potent two-litre TCe 180 petrol engine or the high-torque, two-litre dCi 160 diesel powerplant.

In keeping with the car’s style, Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet comes with a high level of specification, including an electric panoramic folding glass roof as standard, to give the feeling of freedom whether the top is up, or down.

Core equipment on the four Dynamique TomTom versions includes 17” alloys, 4x15W radio CD with Bluetooth and AUX input, air conditioning, automatic headlights and wipers, panoramic glass folding roof, cruise control, fixed glass wind deflector, hands free keycard, speed limiter and fully integrated Carminat TomTom satellite navigation.

Upgrading to the sporty new GT gives greater on road presence through a series of interior and exterior styling enhancements. On the outside, the top-of-the-range versions are immediately distinguishable through their bespoke sport front bumper with revised central air intake and gloss black detailing, and rear bumper with aerodynamic diffuser.

They also benefit from a dark chrome surround for the windscreen frame and waistline, with matching door mirrors, door handles and front fog lights. Rounding off the stylish accoutrements are 18” alloy wheels and headlights with black surrounds.

The flagship model’s sport theme continues on the inside with ‘GT’ sports seats, aluminium-faced pedals, an analogue rev-counter and polished carbon interior door pull handles, outer air-vents and dashboard trim including GT badging. GT versions also boast rear parking sensors and electric folding door mirrors.

Optional equipment includes metallic paint (£405, including Malta Blue for GT versions), Dual Zone climate control (£410), heated front seats (£305), leather upholstery (£920), bi-xenon headlamps (£665), Carminat TomTom satellite navigation (£460), Arkamys 3D Sound radio with multifunctional TunePoint (£360) and removable wind deflector (£150).

The new GT Line pack recently announced across the rest of the Mégane range is also available on the Dynamique TomTom versions of Coupé-Cabriolet for £1,290. This includes specific 17” alloy wheels, electric folding door mirrors, rear parking sensors, and front and rear sport bumpers. The interior also benefits from the same enhancements as the GT models, with GT Line badging.

Full pricing for the New Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet range is outlined below. Ordering opens on 4th June, prior to showroom launch on 9th July.
