Toyota will signal its return to the mini-MPV segment at this year’s Paris motor show with the world debut of the new Verso-S. It will also celebrate 10 years of full hybrid technology and look to its future development with Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Toyota’s environmental leadership in offering motorists cleaner, more efficient cars has been confirmed by the latest industry-wide survey by Clean Green Cars. Its independent analysis of the average CO2 emissions from vehicles sold in the UK during the first half of this year show that Toyota continues to outperform all other manufacturers, improving its figures to 124.49g/km – an improvement of 6.71 per cent on the same period last year.
This compares to an average 145.14g/km for the UK new car market as a whole.

As others promise prototypes or tout test cars, Toyota celebrates ten years of the Prius in Europe with 200,000 sales. The full hybrid Toyota Prius, synonymous as the definitive hybrid car, was launched in 2000 to the European market, (1997 in Japan). With sales reaching 100,000 in 2008, that figure has now doubled to 200,000 in just two more years, confirming the significance of Prius as a mainstream model. Global sales of Prius are expected to exceed two million by the autumn of 2010.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has analyzed dozens of data recorders from Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles involved in accidents blamed on sudden acceleration and found that the throttles were wide open and the brakes weren’t engaged at the time of the crash, people familiar with the findings said.
The early results suggest that some drivers who said their Toyotas and Lexuses surged out of control were mistakenly flooring the accelerator when they intended to jam on the brakes.

Proving that advanced, low emissions technology need not cost the earth, the new, British-built Toyota Auris Hybrid has the measure of its main market rivals on value for money.
Europe’s first full hybrid C-segment model, it combines family-friendly five-door practicality with the proven low emissions, high efficiency, quality and reliability of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. In performance terms, the 134bhp Auris Hybrid matches conventional 2.0-litre diesels, but with significantly lower emissions and better fuel economy. All versions of the car achieve sub-100g/km performance (89g/km with 15-inch wheels, 93g/km with 17-inch wheels), which means owners pay no annual road tax (Vehicle Excise Duty). Insurance is also competitive, with a 13E group rating.
