The world‟s best-selling roadster, the Mazda MX-5, added another accolade to its many awards by earning the title of „Best Sports Car‟ on the 2010 JD Power vehicle ownership satisfaction survey for the UK.
More than 17,000 car owners across the UK took part in the annual survey. Owners of Mazda‟s iconic two-seater sports car gave their cars top scores for appearance, exterior and interior quality and mechanical reliability, performance, running costs and also for dealer service.
After the votes were in, the Mazda MX-5 achieved a satisfaction rating of 82.3 percent – beating out luxury sports cars like the Mercedes-Benz SLK, and the Audi TT, as well as the VW Eos – to claim „Best-in-Class‟ honours.
The MX-5 is no stranger to finishing at the top of JD Power surveys, and has been voted best in the sports car category often and in many countries around the globe. Owners have consistently praised the roadster for being an affordable, durable and extremely fun-to-drive sports car for twenty years. And it is no stranger to automotive awards. It has won over 160 of them, while finding 870,000 owners worldwide, and becoming one of the industry‟s truly cult vehicles with fanatical enthusiasts on every continent.
Since launch of a power-retractable hardtop version in 2006, the MX-5 line-up has been more popular than ever before. Last year it held 22 percent of the non-premium sports segment in the UK, homeland of the two-seat roadster, and was second in Europe with an estimated share of 12 percent.
“The JD Power survey results in the UK are important because Brits are really passionate about sports cars in general,” said Jeff Guyton, President and CEO of Mazda Motor Europe. “But these results reflect more than just how much they love to drive their MX-5. They also show how practical and easy to live with our roadster is on a daily basis. It combines low running costs, legendary reliability and good service with thrilling, open-top sports car fun. No wonder it continues to be so popular.
